Unclogging Culverts

  • I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

Anyone else remember the days when Post10 would just clear street drains with his feet? Then he got a rake and there's no stopping him now. LOL
FYI Update - My comment above was in no way a complaint. I was just reminiscing about way back when Post10 started. I wasn't trying to imply that I didn't like what he was doing now and/or requesting he do anything different. Just wanted to make that clear.

I have a childrens play fountain thingy, and I left it in the backyard with water in it, then I noticed a couple days later that there was raccoon prints on the edge of it. Now I fill it with water all the time and I feed raccoons cats foxes skunks birds and squirrels. I am thinking of setting up a deer cam to really see what's going on. Now I can't get rid of the water because all these animals rely on it. Pretty cool huh?

That 2nd culvert took me back to my creek-walking days: I loved going through the middle of town in this secret, lush corridor of trees, brush and flowing water. Picking blackberries, minnows nibbling my sandaled feet, counting the crawdads... Keep up the good work, post 10.

I'm very familiar with the outdoors and woods btw. I have great respect for wildlife & the woods the live in. Eye protection IS important. Whether your mowing your lawn (have a rock or any debris flying at your face and you'll never be without safety glasses) or out in the woods (like post 10) yanking, pulling on sticks, branches or just walking through wooded areas. We all tend to take our senses for granted or just don't think about it until you lose one of them. It can happen fast before you know it.

For the non- Americans here, what is the correct etiquette for fuel stations? In the UK, the guys behaviour is actually normal. You cant actually move your car until you have entered the store to pay for fuel. Even if its a pay at the pump station- you leave your car where it is to enter the store. Maybe its because our petrol stations are fairly small usually?

When I came back to the UK after living in the Middle East for years where moving after filling up is what you do, I moved my car after filling up to let the person behind me get to the pump. Next thing the station owner came running out to stop me driving off for not paying!! Different etiquette I now know😊

You have inspired me to unclog all drains in my area. The floods are now nonexistent. It has become my passion. Even now, as I am typing this, I long for the feel of wet sopping tree branches and leaves. My neighbors look at me in awe. I am now referred to as the swamp lady. Sometimes I gather the clutter that's preventing the water from flowing, and leave it on my neighbor's doorstep as a present. If I die, my last wish would be for my dead body to float down all the rivers I have unclogged.

My man, you need gloves and goggles. Even when i worked this sort of thing, we had to have hardhats and the works. Most of the time we’d be working in +40•c degree weather and we’d still have to wear jeans and a long shirt with a high vis vest.
People question why construction and public workers take long breaks, its because we would die otherwise. I’d be screamed at by passerby’s whenever id be working on ditches and road repairs and sitting on the side of the road drinking water. I always wanted to scream “im dying here.”
You’re doing really good work my man. I just want to make sure you’re staying safe and healthy while doing what ya do. Some good goat or deer leather gloves go for 10-15$, US bucks cause not sure about Canadian, high vis vest go for less, and some places sell decent hardhats for around $20, so probably less in Canadian currency.
Just wanna make sure you’re safe my man.
Keep up the good work. 👉😎👉

I was born in Quebec province, grew up in a village on the south shore of Montreal. 25 years ago this year I moved to Taiwan, then spent a few years in Shanghai and finally came back in Taipei. In all those years I have bumped into people from Quebec that were strangers to me and I can remember that most were acting like jerks at a point when I started to feel uneasy. That guy waving at you in the car and leaving his car there, that was 100% done on purpose. He grew up getting brainwashed by the local news, the government and gossips, and doesn't know that he has to behave when he's outside the province. Go read about the Chinese story of the frog in a pot hole. BTW, that story is not related to our nickname.

7:09 It looks like those boulders prevented them from installing the culvert flat so they just put it in on its side. That is why it is sticking out of the road.

That mossy 'gully'/stream bed (7:28) looks like it should be made into a puzzle. Lots of people would love to put that puzzle together and then seal it and hang it up. // That road that had the 3 crushed/above the road metal culverts - were they ever replaced?

The old iron culvert is so cool. I was thinking it could be turned into a cabin for camping. Or a rain shelter.

The large riveted culvert pipe looks like an old smoke stack pipe.

Great content as always. But I have to ask, what was it about the place around 6 minutes that came off as creepy and eerie to you? I've rarely heard you describe the places you explore this way so it must have made an impression

I mean, he did say part of what made it creepy. The dark void underneath the rock he was standing on, and then the darkness inside the culvert when he went into it probably didn't help, I imagine

You should get yourself a big 4/4 truck and just roll right over culverts and debris. Also, could you do some spirit box conversations at abandoned places? That would be awesome. You can purchase everything you need on eBay. 😀👍🙏
