Thank you for this. I had been waiting for you to cover Queen Blige. I need for people to understand that Mary has always supported the gay community, proudly, especially when it wasn't popular. I never forget her saying, in the 90s, that anyone around her that spoke negatively of gays or anyone who lived an "alternative" life would get checked expeditiously. She has always believed that people should be who they are, regardless of what others may think. True Mary fans know this.
Wow! I never really thought of the Mary album as MJB's gay album, but it really is. It was the first album of hers I owned, and it was released just a few days before my 15th birthday. I related to it the whole way through as if I knew that--even though I had no relationship experiences at the time--it was going to comfort me when I did have some of those experiences later in my life.
Right? It saddens me because I feel like this could be a series! But this concept will just have to live on in someone else’s channel! But I will FOREVER love this channel!
@@stylebyniall Or the person is unaware. I also said, "gay icon" which there are many standards prior to Cher including Lena Horne, Ethel Waters and Josephine Baker. With many after, in and beyond the gay community, like MJB! On this Black cultural account, where Black gay men are sharing who their gay icons are - you're doing too much beloved.
I loved this analysis because I never thought about Mary J being a gay icon, in fact I perceive her more connected to the hip hop world that used to be very manly. I love her because I love r&b music but none of my gay friends like her so much in comparison to other r&b divas more involved with the gay community like Mariah Carey or Beyoncé. But I can understand black queer men love Mary and feel identified with a lot of her songs, for example "I Can Love You" is a song that a gay man can feel connected "I can love you better than she can..."
Mary was an incredible album along with the share my world album. The down low lifestyle is nothing new. Its still going on today. Milik i'm going to miss you putting videos on your channel. I could never understand why you would want to bring this channel to an end. Thank you for everything my boy.
I’m a huge fan of MJB and finding out about this aspect of the fandom and her support of the LGBT+ community makes me love her even more. 🥰 she’s the kind of ally I want to be when I grow up
I am admire of music more on the performance / melody side of the art. Its wondefull to see how powerfull lyrics can be at a cultural / historic level.
i feel soooo seen by you bringing up “no happy holidays”. i feel that song deep in my soul! great point about how it resonates with a lot of queer men’s romantic experiences!!
Not to mention, she threw her own ball two years ago for the, "Strength Of A Woman" festival called, "The MJB Ball" and has been to multiple life ball, is best friends with Elton John, did a duet with George Michael, did a music video of "Give Me You" with her dancing in a gay bar, donated and supported Mac Viva Glam, and much more. seems like you only touched the surface and only used her as a way to talk about DL men....
We were loving her before "Mary." The "My Life" album was big within Black gay community -- men and women. The dance remixes of "You Bring Me Joy" were in heavy gay club rotation.
I love the video I love this channel I never knew the Mary album was her lgbtq 🏳️🌈 album learned something new I love that album !!! Are you doing a MJB explained ? Peace and blessings love this channel ❤❤❤
I had no idea of this regarding MJB 👏. She seems genuine when it comes to the community, giving back, being an ally. There are some truly supportive singers that give back without looking for clout such as Christina Aguilera. Other singers like Gaga use it as a gimmic to sell.
While I love this video I wish there was more understanding for dl men, some out men put themselves in the position to be hurt as well which isn’t always brought to light. Loosing your family over your sexuality can be very painful. Being dl isn’t easy just like it takes courage to be who you truly are!

I would have never thought “No Happy Holidays” could be from the perspective of a gay or queer DL relationship but it makes sense.
Thank you for this. I had been waiting for you to cover Queen Blige.

Wow I had no idea she was "gay icon." Thanks for this!

The Mary album is the best album. Im still torn between that one and Share My World album.I still listen to it every week.
OKAY!!!
Nah Mary is hard, but come on My World! Phew! But maybe im caught up in nostalgia ❤

Not 🚫 to mention her collaboration with Elton John. I'm sure that gained her points with the LGBTQ community. That was is classic 🎹 song 🎵
And her collaboration with George Michael
Deep Inside STAYS on repeat, you hear me?!?!
Mary is my favorite album of hers! I guess now I know why 😂😂😂
Also, she has a duet with George Michael on the international edition of the album.
I love when the divas are ACTUAL gay supporters and not just there for a check and a pick me!
This was amazing. I never really thought of No happy holidays in that context but it applies perfectly. Thanks for making this video
You should make more MJB related content, loved this!
Mary J. Blige has so many good songs and albums the children love her. 💕💕💕💕💕

And in the music video for “whole damn year” she has a gay man being bullied in the storyline

The vocal delivery changes in the NHH clips deserve a video of their own. 😩
