    These are the only videos I will ever comment on because somehow, someway, your diagnostics always help me solve my problem with my 318. Thank you

      Wasn't the regulator. I put on a new one, just because it was the original. Now I have a new JD replacement. Next, to do your other checks.

      @@wtbm123 Did that. But when checking the stator while running, it only has about 32V (AC). My tractor is an 87 JD, Kohler 14 HP. You and others are over 40V. Not sure if that's bad enuff to kill a $150 Napa battery, only 1 yr old

    Went through the same thing with my 316. Voltage regulator rectifier was OK. The melted A/C connector like you had was the problem. Cleaned up the connector everything was OK. So maybe your old voltage regulator rectifier is still OK.

    Great video Terry, very informative and easy to follow. I pretty much have the same situation as you did, with one exception. When I test for AC voltage across the w stator wires(at full throttle) im only seeing about 25 V. Wondering if I should go ahead and replace the Voltage Regulator before digging further into the stator. Thanks

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  6 місяців тому +1

      When testing stator you are not going through the regulator , Also make sure the regulator is grounded . The regulators do go bad .

    Nice diagnostic Terry. Before I put my kubota tractor away for the season I noticed in testing my battery voltage was 16 volts . I've never seen a voltage that high . It does have a simular system that produces ac voltage then rectified to dc . Have you seen these fail producing too much voltage ? I just replaced the battery two months ago . I'm figuring reading 16 volts with the engine just turned off at the battery is too high , any thoughts.

      @zx8401ztv Рік тому +2

      It does sound like a poor regulator, i would expect about 14 volts charging and the battery should slowly drop down to 12.7 to 13 volts after sitting off for 10 mins.
      Dam im in waffling mode lol.

    • @SteveRobReviews

      @@zx8401ztv That's what I thought as well. 16v I've never seen testing any machine running or a battery . I'm boiling my new battery it seems over the last two months 😅 Next spring I will have to investigate or fly Terry up to my place.

      @wtbm123  Рік тому +2

      Myself i would probably change the regulator , if nothing else just to know. Most are cheap , not sure how much they would be for a kubota

    The unloaded generator did produce a high voltage, i thought that the regulator died because of that, and an imperfect battery conection while it was running.
    Maybe the generator produces much more voltage than needed, the regulator will have to dissipate that unwanted energy in heat (The regulator case).
    I suspect the regulator case does not have enough mass to absorb the heat.
    Imagine how cool it could be if a thick aluminium plate with the regulator hole shape in the middle.
    Mount the regulator in the plate hole and it would last 400 years.. ok longer lol :-D
    Sometimes i suspect things are rigged to fail hmm lol.
    Hell dont i waffle on a lot lol.

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  Рік тому +1

      Those regulators have a high failure rate. Most are cooled by the cooling fan , but i see people mount them to frames and stuff . I always wondered if they over heat easy that way .

    It was good until the end. Couldn't read the meter to show how much it was charging or where you connected your leads to check the regulator output.

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  Рік тому +2

      You can put both leads on battery terminals , or neg on neg battery terminal and pos of meter on center wire of regulator . At half throttle or above should be 14 - 15 volts , But that also depends on the health and state of charge in battery . If battery is fully charged , you may just read in the mid to high 13`s . And when you shut off the engine it should drop back into the 12 v range . 12.6 being a good battery but may say 12.7 or something just after it was shut off. . Sorry about not showing it better .
