IKEA closed Tottenham due to his ridiculous ULEZ charge impacting business. As a country bumpkin I mistakenly drive through the obscure ULEZ signs and was hit by a fine of £80 for visiting London. My destination was Greenwich IKEA but I diverted off it. To reach Tottenham you needed to take a longer route, emitting more pollutants, so the ULEZ is a toll road system, not an environmental strategy. More stupidly those residing within the zone need to pay the toll when they drive their cars. Absolute insanity. And the arrogance of the fine department is beyond belief. Everyone in the UK is so slavishly focused on important London that they all know about ULEZ. I didn’t, but that’s no defence. Given that thousands of fines go unpaid and over a hundred thousand had their fines cancelled, within months of the scheme being introduced, due to living outside of London, they are oblivious of their insignificance to the rest of the country. I’m not returning. They’re making London commercially unfeasible unless you’re an oligarch or banker with bonuses. When their trash looks like the seventies winter of discontent maybe GLC will realise things have collapsed.

Ken Livingston put an extra thousand buses on the road without thinking where he was going to park them. There are bus stands all over the place. In camberwell they are parked on the pavements because there's nowhere to put them. A billion pound in subsidies and they still make a loss.

Drawing a political boundary around what is effectively a big Labour constituency, giving it powers of expenditure and an impetus to lobby for more powers - was just another New Labour stitch-up of the constitution designed to extend its power. @@ashwayn So, London is dying is it? Then please explain why so many people are constantly moving to London? May I take a guess that you are a young person, perhaps 30 yrs old - or probably younger?
I am now into my 7th decade, and when I was a kid in the 1960's believe me, the air was crappy, very many of the buildings in town were black from the soot of the old fires and the Smog's of the 40's & 50's. Back then there was lead in the petrol, I actually lived quite close to the Thames in Hammersmith and you never saw any fish. There was the odd Swan, and a few mallard ducks - and that was it. There were NO seals, carp, Eels and certainly no occasional Pilot Whales etc etc.
In the city there were only feral pigeons, Sparrows and Starlings. Now, in my garden, there are collared doves, Wood Pigeons, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Ring Necked Parakeets, Robins, Dunnock, Finches and even the occasional Heron - hey, a few weeks ago I even had a Pheasant turned up! You don't have to take my word for it, just ask anyone over a certain age. London is now an infinitely better place to live than it was 40 or 50 yrs ago.
So when someone tries to brainwash you into thinking that London is in its last gasping throes, just point them in MY direction, I will put them straight. Sadly, there are currently a number of people around with a political agenda or an axe to grind, and they preach this agenda to the young and impressionable, mainly because they have no prior knowledge of what it was like before and are therefore easily molded into the hysterical, but cosseted children or young adults of today.
To make things clear for you, I lived on a very busy road throughout my childhood, breathing in air much worse than todays, we played on the foreshore of the Thames when it truly was dead and we drank water straight from the tap (no poncey, expensive bottled water then) just as I do now. And guess what, all of my old friends are fine, as were our parents and grandparents.
So please feel free to be a frightened, downtrodden 'victim' of the modern world if you wish, or you can thank your lucky stars that you're fortunate enough to live in a modern society which in so many, many ways is infinitely better than it once was.
If you think its bad now, believe me, you wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes when I was growing up!

So for example a nurse lives inside the UKEZ zone, cant afford the commuting fine, can't afford a new car, cannot rely on public transport will inevitably look for employment elsewhere. In 2012 I purchased my ex-demo Vauxhall Insignia for £21k with the intention of keeping it until I had to finish driving for good. I then learnt that as it was EURO 5 I would have to replace it with a EURO 6! I paid a further £11k for another Insignia model. At no time has the labour party offered a dime in the way of COMPENSATION! Just like local government, labour has no debate about local matters!
No wonder so many native working class folk have deserted them. Nothing DEMOCRATIC about a party that is a DINOSAUR🧐

I got a hundred pound fine and three points on my license for driving at 24mph along an arterial road in London. This is a disgusting milking of drivers wallets.

Khan will not get his cake and eat it this time . He is asking for older car owners £4000 plus to spend on newer cars in a climate where people are worried about paying their mortgage , Rent , Gas and electricity bills.
