One thing I absolutely LOVE about 3.0 is that the designers seem to be dedicating a lot of mental focus on how to create thematic rules that fit the faction in focus. That kind of thing is what makes people love their armies even more because the lore and the experience begin to align more and for us nerds that’s a great thing

I agree. I don't like the core 3e rules as much as the 2e rules, but so far the battletomes themselves have nearly all been great. I just hope they keep this up but don't go crazy with power creep like they've been doing in 40k.
Seems like an obvious game design decision: make ghosts play like ghosts. Glad these rules updates are helping to bring immersive fluff to the tabletop.

Well the risk of imbalance or power creep is there, I'm loving the huge flavor wins from recent tomes. The burgle and nighthaunt allegiance abilities are soooooo thematically good.
I'm tempted to start referring to Nurgle as "Burgle" from now on. xD
Nighthaunt needed the TLC, glad they got a bunch of fun thematic tech that seems devastatingly effective.

I think Discorporate won't be forgotten that easily, as it's basically the All out Defence for NH. Seeing as your opponent will use that all the time, you have a great reminder to do so yourself.

You can stack the same effect multiple times
So you can theoretically get -2 save debuff on a unit
The effects dont have to be different just the unit charging has to be different.
The game designers intent is obvious that they want NH players charging - A LOT.
Capping -1 to hit and -1 to save effectively kills that. -1 to save is literally nothing in a save stack meta, you need to be at least -2 rend to be considered a hammer
Secondly, capping at -1 to hit and -1 to save would not get NH where they need to be damage-wise to be a viable army.
NH still have pitiful damage characteristics. Being able to give your army -2 rend (effectively) vs a specific unit is not overpowered but helps make NH damage super consistent.
They wont ever do huge damage, but the damage they do will be maximized.

I read it the same as you but I really bloody hope the designers don't have a change of mind to simplify it and only let you have one of EACH. WoT is ace though and we do need it.
The next Death Tome is probably FEC. I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t, even as an OBR player. There’s a LOT of potential for our favorite vampire-cousins, especially after seeing the rework from this Tome.

It's unfortunate that Glaivewraith Stalkers aren't that good. Because they're comparatively affordable and common, being Easy To Build models. It would be nice if they could just be decent. Feels like they're a "trap discount". You can get them cheaply, but only because they're _trash._
I was really hopping lady O would have gotten a wound increase, even if it was just like 1 or 2, just a little something to make her more survivable I think would have been the best thing for her.
They didn't do that due to how Spirit Hosts changed. I think they pretty much want you to take 3 regardless 🤣
Oh I hope this is not the beginning of even deeper balance issues, this tome seems to have some extremely good special rules.
Im okay with it. It's GW, armies have had high "highs" and low "lows" for 30 years in 40k. I expect nothing less in AOS XD
@@2Tough I have also been in the hobby since RT but rules like this is never good for the gamestate never the less. GW are pushing the balance aspect at the moment but as you said GW have always been very swingy (to say the lesast) with their rules. However I don't need to pretend that I like it or that it does not excist. When the community get to down on the games it's kind of depressing, but it seams that GW at least are trying to listen to the community and adress certain issues, so I get my hopes up (silly me) and then stuff like this happen.
It's just a bit taxing at times.

@@2Tough I would also like to add that the books for 3ed have been good and quite balanced until now, nonreal super rules that stand out. You actually need to play and experiment to find what is good on the table.
Daughters and Ghosts look like they might break that pattern. Guess my own fault for forgetting that nothing is constant, good or bad stuff always change.

6 months later the games in the most balanced state it's ever been. I think we might actually see parity across the board by the time the last tome drops for 3e...
NH will be strong on their turn and vulnerable on the opponent's turn. Scariest priority rolls in the game. Very fitting.
For the wave of terror booking. Doesn't the book come with a page of tokens to use? I feel lady O didn't get a lot. The 5+ to stop a command is great but I dont think they changed much at all with her. The processions being big on a single unit is ok. I'm a huge fan of harridans so I'll be trying that out a few times. Hopefully they dont suck in this book

After 1st game: Wave of Terror is insanely good -- always setup 2 to 4 charges per attack and your opponent will suffer. As for bookkeeping? Book comes with tokens. If you can't remember the die roll range for each, write the numbers on the token. In one charge phase, I gave two different enemy units all three Wave of Terror effects -- savvy players will eventually learn to watch out for ghosts trying to surround them, but in the mean time, we really do get to instill terror every time the opposing player sees a stack of tokens pile up on his favourite unit in the charge phase. Great book! (Not withstanding Battle Tactics and Grand Strategies. Lame! They seem to be that way for every new book so far, so that's whatever. They do have flavour, but they would be terrible choices for Matched Play.)

No, they don’t. The chart is based on your Unmodified roll result.
Yep, as said, its the unmodified #, which is a missed opportunity to make these little missiles a bit more interesting.
Guys, I've never played AoS and don't even know the rules, but I like nighthaunt minis and wanna paint some of them. Could someone help me with playable 1000 ponts roster? Or which amount of points is analog of 40k 1000 points?

The worst thing about this release is... dun dun duuuuun: the cover! I can't tell the old book apart from the new one... I know the covers are kept similar, but I can always tell them apart... this one seems to be using the exact same image, just the graphic design/lettering is ever so slightly different... thanks for making your game less accessible to people with VI problems, especially after I went round the internet praising the accessibility... 🤷♀️
The new book has a red border, the old one is border-less.
