the Baby Vox story was horrifying, can't believe the mistreatment they got over such a stupid (and obviously nonsensical) rumor.
wow being a first gen female idol was tough…..
You can even go back to the 80's with Kang Susie, where she interacted with a male idol group at the time and their fans went after her, putting gum in her hair, slashing her tires and so forth.

its so paradoxical bcs opposite sex idol groups would get so much freedom interacting with each other on stage and variety shows but when it got to dating rumors they would get death threats

Now i understand why most kpop idols & kpop companies stay the fuck out of relationship rumors. Fans/anti-fans are still crazy. Thankfully laws have gotten stricter.

I think it's awful how bad the antis were back then, and as an NRG fan (albeit one who wasn't there at the time) Papaya did not deserve anything they got. I think fans back then had a hard time acknowledging the wrongs of their fandom, so they participated in the hate or tried to deflect. As the owner of that Daum Café said, those fans spreading hate should've imagined how they would feel if NRG were on the receiving end. I know NRG were the target of some harsh stuff (like how a contestant of a show NRG were going to appear in said that Hwansung, the group's maknae who had passed away in 2000, had died of an STD...), so if I were to time travel back to 2002 I'd tell them to think of the other side. Also, Miyoun wasn't 13 when the rumor spread about her and Heejun-she was more like 17, but someone already said that.
A lot of these harsh incidents were targeting women, but male idols have also been on the brink of anti fans. One time an anti gave Kyesang from g.o.d a drink that was spiked with something (I think it was laxatives), which his mother drank and had to go to the hospital. H.O.T. fans also made up a rumor that Hoyoung (also from g.o.d) had driven drunk when Kangta was getting heat for a real drunk driving incident. On the other hand, g.o.d fans were the ones who harassed Chakra for shaking hands with their faves. It's a battle where no one's really winning. I'd reckon these incidents are absent because the channel focuses on girl groups, but it's something I'd like to mention. (I just feel sorry for, first off, the people who received so much hate, but also the normal fans who are overshadowed by 14 year olds furious that a woman glanced vaguely in the direction of an H.O.T. member.)
yes thank you for your input,i was actually very surprised while doing the research because a lot of the attacks were against male idols and i had no idea
i’m glad fan mail and presents are so closely looked into or aren’t given to the idol fully at all anymore :( with how evil people still are on the internet, especially with there being more fans in general, i can imagine people would do the exact same thing on a wider scale nowadays

while doing the research i found out that a lot of male idols were victims of very scary antis too but females were always an easier target 😔
I’m stunned by the treatment that baby vox received. Those people were crazy and quite literally criminals. Misogyny and not seeing idols as humans was really prevalent back then🫢

how long have you've been a stan?
i would say i started to really stan k-pop during quarantine,i became a blink in 2017 but i guess that doesn't really count because they were pretty much the only ones i stanned
