Sometimes he was loyal, sometimes he wasn't. I think Vader INTENTIONALLY made his actions appear unpredictable to throw Palpatine off guard and what do you know? It kinda worked. When Palpatine TRULY believed Vader could NEVER be turned, Vader caught him off guard. 🤔

    • @frankdees507

True. He used loyalty to bring down Palpatines guard. Palpatine was convinced if it came down to it, that Vader would choose him over his own son which was his fatal flaw

@@BCCSquidward More complicated that. Palpatine and Vader had twisted love-hate, father-son dynamic.
Palpatine had been the father figure that Anakin had desperately needed. So there is a part of Vader that genuinely cared about Palpatine. Despite Palpatine shamelessly misusing that bond.
OTOH, Palpatine was a psychopath and his feelings for both Maul and Vader were (imo) the closet thing to love that his twisted soul was capable of.
Unlike Dooku who was ruthlessly discarded the moment he was no longer useful, Palpatine showed a twisted sort of kindness and a tolerance that he gave no others.
In their duel on Mandalore, Palpatine could have easily ended both Maul and his brother. Maul made it clear that he did not wish to fight his former master…but the power that Maul had built was a threat Palpatine simply would not tolerate. So he tore it all down…but let Maul escape with his life.
With Vader, he was even more tolerant. Though frustrated with Vader’s obsession with his past life as Anakin Skywalker, and his lack of vision….Palpatine kept trying to force Vader to get stronger…and was tolerant of failure in ways that he was with no other.
In short, the trap of The Dark Side is loneliness. The Sith love power and use people. So Palpatine and Vader were all each other had. Too painful to stay, but better than any of the alternatives they had left.
      Until Luke arrived….

Palpatine and Darth Vader never made eye contact. Upon being named Vader, Palpatine handicapped himself.
We reveal so much through facial expressions. Vader never had to fake or coerce thru his eyes. How much different would the battle above Endor be if Palpatine saw Anakin's eyes re-emerge?
Any animosity he felt, Vader could forgo attention on hiding it externally. Palpatine's arrogance meant he thought he "knew" Vader's feelings.
It takes a lot of energy and concentration for normal people to hide our true feelings as they want to play across our face.

Vader should have taken a page out of Palpatine's book and got rid of him the way Palpatine got rid of most Jedi. Just have some soldiers that are programmed to attack him after a trigger word. Heck a Soldier with a bomb would work too. Sith didn't fight in honorable combat and so Vader's power vs Palpatine's is irrelevant. Look at what Sidious did to his master. A person without the force could have done the same thing. Instead of force lighting a blaster would have worked vs a drunk, and unsuspecting Sith lord.

All Vader would have to do was walk up next to Palpatine while hiding a Ysalamiri under his cape. This would nullify both their force powers. Then Vader could’ve used his physical strength to stomp out Palpatine.

According to Lucas, the suit limited Vader, since it replaced body parts and some lung function with machine, thereby capping his connection to the Force by 50%.
With Jedi philosophy, it not only comes down practice and master of the Force, but also mastery of one’s self, their emotions, actions and their unwillingness to let go of their attachments that holds one back from their full potential.
Sith philosophy is slightly different. It’s not just their knowledge and mastery of the Force and one’s self, but also getting rid of their old weaker selves, including all of their attachments and memories, that is the key to reaching one’s true potential, and exceed it.
Vader was never truly able to let the Anakin within him die. And Palpatine could feel that, and occasionally scolded or disciplined him because of that. Which was part of the reason (not the full reason) why Palpatine was ok with Vader’s suggestion in the ESB that Luke would either “join them or die” as well as having Vader face off against Luke in RotJ. With both having familiar attachments with each other, it didn’t matter which one killed the other so long as they did it, since he would have a stronger Apprentice either way. An Apprentice worthy of succeeding him in the event that he himself died and wasn’t able to transfer his essence to a new body.
According to Lucas, Anakin (and Luke) had the potential to be at least twice as powerful as Palpatine, but by Mustafar with the lose of his limbs, the damage to his lungs and burns, which the suit compensated for, his potential was cut in half. Combined with his failure to master himself, he only ever realized 80% of Palpatine’s strength in the Force. So the Emperor was always looking for a stronger and younger Apprentice to replace him.
I personally believe that if Vader learned to control his emotions and sought some physical healing as well as found a way to deal with Force Lightning, that he could’ve reached Palpatine’s power level, and maybe even pass it. The only thing then keeping him from overthrowing the Emperor, was the Emperor’s foresight and intelligence.
However, he spirit was somewhat subdued after Luke seemingly rejected him on Bespin and after the punished him for injuring Luke, since the lose of the hand (replaced by machinery) limited Luke’s connection to the Force as well. So, his belief that he would’ve break free of the Emperor’s Will was shattered. That the Emperor setup the situation were he would have face off against Luke, just as Palpatine set him up to face off against Dooku, further undercut his psyche. And he already had longed come to believe that he was past ever breaking free of the Darkside and redemption. But, Luke was already strong enough by RotJ for both of them. Thanks to the love they had for each other, and Luke’s decision to offer himself as a sacrifice, showing him that love and selflessness, not power, was the key and reminding Vader that he was once the Jedi Anakin, that finally gave him the strongly to break free and overthrow the Emperor and thereby fulfilled his role as the Chosen One. Attachments helped lead Anakin’s fall to the Darkside and doomed the galaxy, attachments also saved him. But without Luke’s (who saved the galaxy) attachments, Anakin would’ve never been able to do what he did. They were effectively both Chosen Ones.

Cool video and good points. I think comic canon supports a lot of what you say. Lots of attempts but Sidious is too cunning and powerful. But Ultimately I think it’s simply that Vader never fully gave himself over to the dark side. A fact Sidious laments in a short comment in the Tarkin novel. In this sense Sidious failed to create an apprentice strong/committed enough to the dark side to take the mantel of master from him

Palps was just too strong, quick, smart, and always ten steps ahead plus he observed and even influenced Anakin since he was child.
Vader was loyal to him for too long only because he didn't want to get rid of the only person left in his life that has a "positive" relationship with and yet feared him as well.
In a twisted way his hatred of him (and certain Jedi) kept him alive, to get stronger, and eventually to be nearly powerful enough to face him.
Palpatine grew stronger and wiser but more comfortable with his apprentice like a lazy old king with his "loyal" black knight. Vader can kill him but Sidious can destroy him effortlessly. Palps was holding all the cards in a game he rigged but failed to see a couple of wild cards.

@ Uh, no. Lucas himself said his inspiration for Palpatine was The Devil. He wanted a villain of perfect evil.
In the novel, “Darth Plagueis, Palpatine was a psychopath long before he became a Sith. His father called him a monster and wished he hadn’t been born.
Lastly both he and Plagueis had grown so powerful that they tried to subdue the Force itself through Sith sorcery. It was in reaction to this attempt that Anakin Skywalker was created.
So it is not outlandish to think that Palpatine was created to end the Jedi, and Anakin was created to end the Sith.
      Hard reboot.

We have to accept that Palpatine was significantly stronger with the Force than Vader. Vader might be stronger in raw strength, but all in all, Palpatine was way stronger. Palpatine was not just a Sith - he was the embodiment of the Dark Side itself. He was the Dark Side. Vader would never ever be able to beat the Emperor in combat if the Emperor was not weakened for any reason.

The issue was never about whether Vader could replace Sideous; in fact, that was originally the plan. Sideous fully expected that Vader would surpass him quickly, and even said as much to Yoda in their final battle. It wasn't until Anakin lost to Obi-wan and received his severe injuries that Sideous realized an unfortunate truth; the weapon he forged in Darth Vader could never succeed at ruling a Sith Empire, regardless of his injuries. Becoming a ruling Sith lord required scalpel-like precision, finesse, patience, manipulation. Vader was a hammer that saw a galaxy full of nails, and he did not care for Sith ideology any more than he did for the teachings of the jedi. Vader was deemed unworthy of inheriting the legacy of the Sith, and Sideous chose to double down on pursuing his own immortality instead. Operation Cinder guaranteed that Vader would have little left to rule over even if he somehow succeeded in defeating him, all the while Sideous would gather his strength on Exogol for his imminent return.

On one hand, it ALMOST feels like Vader could have afforded to just wait for the Emperor to die, as he was an aged man, and there's both the various shortcomings various authors have written for Palpatine's clone-based life extensions, and a chance Vader wasn't entirely in the know about them, but then it would also be interesting to ask Vader where his victory plans led, in his mind? There were obviously moments when even Sidious' future sight failed him, so he didn't ALWAYS know about threats. He could've been blown up in a shuttle transfer, or any number of other mishaps, and his powers did have limits, as one time he contracted a fkesh-liquefying virus, he was basically only able to survive because of Vader, yet even if he did die, what would Vader then do? He wasn't strictly young himself, anymore, and always rather close to succumbing to his injuries. He never REALLY seemed to find some magical way to heal his ruined body, while essence transfer frequently displayed failings, and problems, even when properly used, so while he could easily outlive the Emperor, hypothetically, and maybe even arrange for his death, I don't know why he'd bother, aside from revenge? More modern iterations of Vader aren't clamoring for sorcerous powers, and the greatest tech couldn't rejuvenate him. He also didn't seem of tbe mindset to WANT to rule an empire, even if he was proven to be the strongest. Every day was suffering; did he want to add to that the minutiae of overseeing the Empire, and it's details, or putting up with functionaries doing it foe him, and wanting his power, in turn? I just still wish that we had ever been shown one single, more consistent, and accurate, idea of what Vader actually wanted for himself? What type of power he actually wanted to master, and what he wanted to actually do with it, once itcwas his? Did he WANT to run a government bureaucracy? Become the greatest space wizard? Reinvent himself, somehow, and become a different man, entirely?

IMO Vader finding out that Luke was his son and that his son didn't die along with Padmé is probably the biggest factor. For the 20+ years between ROTS and TESB, Anakin believed that his wife and child were dead, he had lost everything he valued, and he had no chance of overthrowing his master due to his physical injuries and emotional trauma. Upon finding out that the name of the pilot who blew up the Death Star was Luke Skywalker, Vader realized this boy who was strong in the Force could only be his son, and that his son was alive. It gave Anakin the one thing he lacked for all those years: hope.
But due to Anakin still being a Sith Lord, he saw it through the filter of the dark side: if he could turn Luke, his power joined with Vader's own would be enough for them to overthrow Darth Sidious together and rule as father and son. However, Luke did the one thing no one expected: his compassion and love for his father enabled Vader to break the dark-side chains that had held him fast for over 20 years and become Anakin Skywalker once again.

Even with his great power in the Force, Palpatine was still powerful in his own right with abilities and knowledge Vader simply did not possess.
Darth Vader's deep hatred for Emperor Palpatine grants him power, but also inflates Palpatine's importance in his life, making him impossible to kill. In Vader's latest adventure, it is implied that he hates Palpatine more than himself, recognizing him as the most important thing in his universe.

There are a lot of things I never understood about Vader's character? If I lost myself in tinkering with electronics and mechanics, and suddenly found myself encased in armour which was malfunctioning all the time, I'd have fixed it.
How long do you think it would be before he could plug himself into his TIE fighter advanced and fly it with his mind?
Seriously, if your boss shoots lightning from his fingertips to punish you exactly how hard is it in the age of hyperdrive technology to insulative your own suit?
If I felt like sh*t over what I had done to my wife and unborn child, I would have meditated on it! After all he's not the 1st Sith to decide they wanted power over love. For example, Darth Malgus was dating that absolutely gorgeous Twi'lek but that didn't stop him killing her. The Sith have reasoning for everything, it's in the code.
If I was angry at myself for being an easily manipulated emo wuss, hunting down and slaughtering a load of people you blamed for the whole thing would certainly go a long way to exercising a few demons.
Be honest people, how many nights of being tortured by once having Natalie Portman madly in love with you, more than willing to have your baby and then to spend the rest of your days as a half-cyborg, only to find out you been manipulated into killing her by the old fart cackling beside you? Personally, it would take the combined efforts of the 501st division plus they're Venator's to pull me off him! 20 years of anger and apathy is not realistic under those circumstances.

Vader was like Malgus. All braun and no brain. Palp was smarter and stronger than Vader. Vader knew this. And he probably realized if he struggled against Kenobi, he stood no chance against Palpatine

Vader suit makes no sense in Disney. in Legends he could not be removed from the suit and it acted as a permanent life support system. so therefore he could not make sufficient upgrades to improve it and stop it being so painful.
whereas in Disney we've seen him soaking in a Bacta tank, so therefore with his engineering expertise he could build himself a super suit so his suffering and limitations would end. So it make no sense in Disney Canon, neither does anything else to be honest.

Disney try to erase the damage and cuts vader suffered on musterfar this why i will never consider Disney star wars true canon, they even made vader almost as powerful as full potential anakin, when papaltine should be more powerful as vader lost alot of potential
