I was fortunate enough to spend the better part of an hour with Paxton in a small group at Wondercon as part of the Edge of Tomorrow tour and was blown away at how awesome and congenial he was. Couldnt have been a nicer guy.
Wonderful story, absolutely loved hearing about Bill Paxton. Great actor and a tragic loss.
The weather spotters tribute to Bill Paxton was amazing.
I realize Kathryn Hahn is the Han Solo of TV character actors. That's why the team behind WandaVision was so excited to have her on board.
I met John Hurt, long time ago, hustling along Shaftesbury Avenue in London. He was a nice guy. :0)
I always thought he would make a great Doctor Who.
You were one lucky man.
Awesome vid man. Keep it up!
John Hurt is my favorite. His cameo in Spaceballs is EVERYTHING!
Loved Paxton and his "The Greek Chorus" role in Aliens! "This just ain't hapennin, mian"
Bill Paxton was really fun in Weird Science.... God Bless You Bill Paxton.
As you started talking about the aesthetic of Aliens, I thought about Dark Star. I am so glad you brought it up. Such a great, goofy movie!
I love Bill Paxton! People should check out the music video for Barnes and Barnes 'Fish heads', directed and starring Bill in probably his earliest ever part.
I got a Brett figure recently. Him and Parker are two of my favorite characters. The working class dudes below decks. Thanks for focusing on some more A L I E N stuff. Can’t get enough of that. Thanks!
I always love Adam's exuberance and joy
Amazing video again! 🤙🏼
My favourite actor from Alien is John Hurt.
He does something very rare and unusual in films; his dialogue is extremely natural; he stumbles over his words, speaks before thinking, he is storming up the character of the guy who's entire life has been about exploration and discovery, but is working on a tramp steamer.
All to explain why he is the one who gets 'got' by the facehugger.
I loved Bill Paxton in Twister!!!
I liked him in Jurassic park
"Twister" came to mind too, when his name was mentioned. In general "Twister" is an underrated movie. Yes, it is a typical Hollywood popcorn movie, but the actor ensemble in it had a lot of fun with each other and it transmits on the screen. It is a feel-good movie.
@@cavemanvi You sure, you aren't thinking about Sam Neill?
My favorite actor was the velociraptor
Glad to hear the Near Dark love. Excellent, underrated vampire flick. Really recommend it.
"Put her in charge then", my favorite line from the movie.
That first question was soooooo funny to me, haha. It was asked for a fan by a fan.
And the answer is already known before asking.
Dark Star was rough around the edges but overall pretty great. Red Dwarf also owes much of its genesis from that.
silent running is my favorite film... the robots and the time they spent building it. Loved paxton in everything... Han Solo.. YES! ecto 1 looks amazing!
Okay who else watched Alien as a 10-11 year old kid and was properly freaked the hell out. I watched it on an old(huge at the time) 31" TV/VHS, I can't imagine sitting in a proper theater with awesome sound what a trip that must have been. Everybody loves Star Wars for just blowing up what is possible visually in a movie with sheer spectacle. Alien took a good rift on the visual style of Star Wars but just made it a lot more tight & claustrophobic, never thought a movie filmed mostly in black/shadow could look so good/menacing.
Growing up in the same UK town as Ridley it’s definitely a commentary on Teesside’s industry, something that was taken over into Blade Runner too.
Douglas Adams touched on the gritty vs clean spaceships in Hitchhikers. Authur calls the Vogon ship
"a bit squalid" then when he gets to the Heart of Gold he says "Now this is what a space ship should look like, all gleaming panels and flashing lights.
Give us the raptor Savage!!
Black hole was dark but I'd hardly call it gritty. If I recall It was still largely the 2001 clean style just in a dark pallette.
Dark Star, Dark Star, Dark Star! I LOVED that soooo much as a child, I found and read the book! Lots more in the book per character dev, BTW.
Love the movies Adam also refers to, The Black Hole (has the best robots to ever be filmed imho), Silent Running (such a sad tale), and Dark Star (launched John Carpenter's career as a movie producer, director, writer, as well as making most of the score, which he also did with alot of his movies). It's also so completely off the wall (arguing with a sentient atomic bomb about relativity).
Yup! Watched it already.
Hey Vasquez, anybody ever confuse you for a man?
No, how about you? That was one of the most memorable Paxton interactions in that movie. It took his ability to play that character to not make it look contrived. Gone too soon…
The Odyssey was a brand new ship and the Nostromo was a well used mining ship. They were both right for their movies. To movie pair to consider in this discussion are Ridley Scott’s Alien and Blade Runner. They really show a common vision. Taking off from what Adam said, Alien is a horror movie and Aliens is a science fiction movie.
My favorite in _Alien_ was Sigourney 😍😍😍 of course.
Jonesy was my favorite Alien actor.😺
Bill Paxton directed "FISH HEADS," too, no less.
'Nuff said!
Love the work of Moebius and H.R. Giger, especially in Aliens!
"Game over, man, game _over_ !"
Game over indeed. RIP Bill, we all miss ya.
and don't forget his other great line, tip of the spear, edge of the knife, crack of my ass,
We're toast man!
Steve Martin on the Muppets! The best. I have gone back and watched it so many times.
Ah...Dark Star and Alien...the genius that was Dan O'Bannon, RIP
We call Bill ‘Mr. Ft. Worth around here, The Dark Backward was Bill Paxton at 11...
Bill Paxton, Great character Actor, much missed.
Bill Paxton also faced and Alien, a Terminator and a Predator.
Don't forget tornado's
And mark wall berg lols
He's the man.
And Phil Coulson.
And "true lies"
I just watched alien and aliens for the first time 2 days ago. Wow those films are great!
Alien 3 is worth watching as well, although some people get salty about it. It has some really good sets and acting in it and really plays with the whole good vs bad thing with most of the cast being murderers/rapists/etc.
@@Rattus-Norvegicus interesting, ill look into watching it!
Dark Star and Alien were both written by Dan O Bannon, which is the main connection between those two films. Although the final version of the Alien script had several contributing writers the original was made by Dan and submitted to Twentieth Century Fox. His initial version, although a good concept, needed further work and revision to make it "film worthy".
Martin Bower is my favourite model maker he worked on alien and many others but my favourite craft is the eagle transporter from space 1999 what a craft
Charles Dutton is my favorite actor from the Alien Franchise, who is not Weaver or Heniksen. Dillon is the freaking savior of Alien 3, and his performance deserves to be applauded.
Charles S. Dutton is fantastic in Alien 3. Danny Webb as Morse and Charles Dance as Clemens are also great.
@Brent Mac Farlane Alien 3 is FAR from garbage. It's a good movie, especially the assembly cut version.
8:35 You are pretty close to the truth here!
Here's an excerpt from the brillIant Alien-focused blog "Strange Shapes" - "“When we did Dark Star,” said O’Bannon, “.... we wanted to show this once-sterile spaceship in a rundown condition, like some old bachelor apartment.” For O’Bannon, Dark Star‘s ‘used universe’ was not as strong a visual element as he had hoped, and Star Wars’ “didn’t come across all that clearly either.” For Alien, O’Bannon instructed Ridley Scott that “if we want this spacecraft to look industrial [and] beat-up, you’re gonna have to make it about three times messier to the naked eye than you wanna to see it. And Alien probably was the first time where an audience clearly saw a futuristic machine in a run-down condition.”"
I vividly remember mocking his lines "It's over man!" and "We're all gonna die man!" with my family :)
Dark Star is one of my favorite sci fi flics...
"Computer: Sorry to interupt your recreation, fellas, but it is time for Sergeant Pinback to feed the alien.
Sergeant Pinback: Awww, I don't wanna do that!"
"Doolittle: Bomb, this is Lieutenant Doolittle. You are *Not* to detonate in the bomb bay. I repeat, you are NOT to detonate in the bomb bay!"
"Let there be LIGHT"...
@@JohnAlexanderICT right?!
Adam, don't leave us hanging with the two flywheels from 7734.
One. I heard Bill Paxton was a "what you see is what you get" person. Wish I could have met him -- beer and wings, dude. Two. I think "Silent Running" is the watershed for weathered spacecraft designs. In a way, the anti-2001.
In the medlab in Aliens... Newt: "HUDSON!!!" Paxton: "Jeez, kid get away from that!"
Give us your take on the models and makers for
OUTLAND. Thanks
Game over, man! Game over!
You should make a ant man costume from the first movie it’s so cool and it has a good amount of detail.
I would like so much to ask Adam a question!
So the question is, when you started up with the Mythbuster show, have you felt at any moment that it just won't be as awesome and successful show as it turned out to be, and how have you felt
when certain people/facilities won't let you use something that was originally in the myth like JETO that should have been on Chevy Impala myth car?
Much respect and love from Bosnia and Herzegovina, my name is Erdin and thanks to the greatest star ever Adam Savage (along with Jamie Hyneman).
U were comparing the realistic worn weathered parts of the ship in Alien compared to the shiny new space ships in Star Trek. Adds to the realism I agree. I feel the same way when u watch a John Wayne movie where most of the cloths and hats were pristine when compared to the brilliant spaghetti western director Sergio Leone. He captures the bead of sweat rolling off the cheek, twitching eye, tattered cloths covered in dust, etc. Perfection.
Yeah as a millennial I'm way too young to get in on that "western" genre, but love Clint Eastwood as an actor, those "man with no name" movies are pretty damn brilliant and properly gritty.
@@AaronSmith-kr5yf I hear ya. I wasn’t even born when Star Trek or Clint Eastwood westerns were made. But I love both. In fact I hate westerns but some of my favorite movies are the Good, the Bad,and the Ugly and High Plains Drifter. Go figure.
Sadly Yaphet Kotto who was in Alien passed away within the last two days.
A red head is a 1000 watt open faced light that used to be commonly used in the film industry. Google "Ianiro redhead" if you want to see it. They were cheap lights since they are just a bulb and a reflector (no lens in front of the bulb).
Where's the raptor suit?
i’ve been checking everyday to see if he’s uploaded about it. it’s an insane amount of work i’m sure ofc but the anticipation & excitement is real!
I thought I was going crazy when I looked for an update and it was just gone
I've just done a lot of searching as all references to the raptor build as well as all the uploads are gone. Apparently there may be a breach of contract issue with Universal (theme parks) and Animax over it's content i.e. not supressing detail to avoid spoilers for theme park goers. And as much as that might be a fraction of what has been uploaded all references and all uploads have been removed until it's resolved.
Adam, do you play video games much? Have you played Alien: Isolation? They captured the aesthetic of Alien's ships so beautifully.
*I always have a bottle of Soy Sause in my workshop too.*
i've never watch Alien before but i might try the game at some point
What IS that thing in the upper right of the screen that keeps dipping and swaying?!
It is some sort of mobile artwork?
To the Tested team: can we please get an explanation - even if it's a short, 2 minute video - as to why the raptor suit videos were removed?
Even if it's "we were legally obliged to, and can't say more than that - we won't be continuing the series", that would still be better than silence and the constant questions...
I accidentally deleted them. My bad
@@cavemanvi dammit Cave. Your carelessness has upset so many ppl and your weak apology isn't good enough. They must have the raptor videos back😉😉.
At this point I have to assume it's for legal reasons and sometimes a "legal hold" on information can be so all encompassing that you can't even say that you're under a legal hold not to talk about it!
"2001" was a new (relatively) ship. (and we tend to not make space stuff out of heavy rust-prone steel.) "Star Trek" has replicators. You'll never find a stained square of carpet, because they'll just replicate a new one. In the Alien universe, those were old ships. And the Nostromo was towing a mining rig.
I raved to my wife about Dark Star, it was a film I saw as a young teenager. She bought me a VHS of it, pretty nasty ex rental tape, but what a gal eh? It doesn't hold up well as the years go by, but I still love it just for the absurdity.
I love the vr app very nice.
Is that new leather on the wood working bench?
The first Alien (and Aliens) had a wonderful Hard Sci-Fi vibe that Star Wars never did.. They both achieve a great level of immersion though which makes them feel more believable than almost any other sci-fi film.
(Still in terms of science realism the three Star Wars movies beat Star Trek easily - no wormhole travel & FTL travel together, no human-alien crossbreeds, no time travel, no crossing between universes.)
Bill was great in that movie.
Where is the raptor suit?
My favourite character in alien was the cat 🐈
Ikr
Jonesey was a true survivor.
R.. I. P Bill 👍🏻
Bill Paxton. Only man killed by a Predator, an Alien and a Terminator!
If anyone here hasn't listened to the Aliens commentary track with Bill Paxton, it's great.
I think the age range of people who, as kids, believed that Steve Martin was the most important thing in the world, is a lot larger of a range than what people may initially think.
Micheal Ironside is that way to me too.
This is the video where the mill goes from a Bridgeport to a Sharp
What’s going on with the raptor suit? Why have all the vids disappeared? Noooo!!!
Lol let’s keep these Dino comments coming boys
Not only that, all traces of his visit to the animatronic studio have been memory holed. It's a conspiracy
@@zero_anaphora don’t tell me Universal have stepped in and ruined it
Wait, he DID actually remove the previous raptor suit videos! What the heck!
Are velociraptors copyrighted now?
@@maan7715 not only that, but a blog post on Animax Design's website about his visit has been deleted. Something went down.
Slipstream is proof to me that no matter how bad the movie, Bill Paxton has never been at fault. He's always been great in every movie he was in
Across 18 films, Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton are the only 2 actors who've been killed by an alien, predator _and_ Terminator.
lol yep queen takes bishop .check.
Bishop wasn't killed by the Alien, he was torn apart but was still able to save Newt. He was destroyed in the crash onto Fury 161.
Bill Paxton, the only actor that got killed by an Alien and Predator(P2) too! lol....
I heard someone call Alien 'cassette-punk' and then I went down a rabbit hole looking up all the ' -punk' styles
I've heard it described as retro-futurism. Set in the far future but still using/depicting old technology.
Lance Henriksen is a great one too.
RIP Bill Paxton
I f*cking LOVE Dark Star. I've studied it, imitated it in things I have done in community theater, and I'll pick up the guitar and sing Benson Arizona any old time. A well-beloved film, and indeed, Alien is in one sense a high-budget remake of ten minutes of Dark Star. "It's time for sleepy-byes, you worthless piece of garbage!" Genius movie, start to finish.
I wondered when we'd see Adam switch from glass to plastic Snapple, haha
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri?
Please tell me Snapple sends you free stuff at this point... their product placement in your videos is excellent. 😉
No, but that sure would be nice!
What about Kikkoman soy sauce (right side of frame on the dust filter)
What happened to the velociraptor :( I just found this channel because of it and now its gone 😭😭
Yeah!!! I was so enjoying that series 😟
those BIG builds tend to get split up over a few weeks. Trust and believe it will come soon. He's as anxious as we are
@@mely598 no I mean the videos are gone!! Like they were removed from the channel! I was checking to see if there was a new update and couldn't find part 1-3
@@Attic_Art , oh hell, i didn't realize o.O . Yeah, thats......odd. Yeah, ALL of the Animax content is gone
@@mely598 oh dang, that was the only partnered one I'd seen so far. That's craaaazy :( I hope they get it resolved :(
Dark star is so weird and funny.
@Adam Savage's Tested Great video as always. One question, What the hell that white and red thing behind that pipe is in the top left corner that keeps going up and down like an oil pump, I couldn't stop looking at it :/
It's a large-scale store display of a Victoriaknox Swiss Army Knife, the blades rotate! He did two previous One Day Builds on repairing it 👍
That is a Swiss Army Knife display. He did videos about its repair recently
@@TheLoveDoctor989 Thanks, was racking my brains trying to think of what it may be, I never thought to go sift through previous episodes.

7:29 Seinfeld is in awe of and wants to talk to Steve Martin, because Steve is funny and Jerry wants to know what that's like. ;)
DAE top comedian in the world isn't funny?
@@TheGreatAtario To be fair, I never really liked Seinfeld either. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
people are going to ask about to raptor suit no matter what you can't move on like they never happened we need some form of information even if its just, we can not speak about the raptor suit videos at the moment, you have almost 5 an a half MILLION subscribers WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!
Adam , what was your favorite myth and which myth was the hardest to do? Also, Why do you think the next generation myth busters didn't take?
I really think the used look of Star Wars was George Lucas loving cars growing up! He definitely worked in the engine of his car!

What about Event Horizon?
I think ITV studios in Leeds (UK) has a load of old redheads. I rented a few a couple of years back. Random comment but it could help.
