At a certain point in calamity, every boss defeated is a mountain climbed. In normal terraria there are maybe 5 stages of progression (before you fight any bosses, after the first major boss, after the final boss of the first half, after the midpoint of the back half, and after the final boss) and terraria is not a short game by any measure. In calamity every boss after the games normal final boss really feels like you are going even further beyond, the patterns become harder, you get more freedom of movement, fights get longer, and at a certain point the fights really start feeling less like a protagonist claiming impossible odds and feel more like two stubborn gods throwing themselves at eachother until one finally gives up. The devourer of gods is that turning point. It’s a brutally difficult fight that forces you to learn the patterns, but when you do you can feel yourself overcoming this cosmic deity of destruction the feeling is incredible. In large part because of the music which makes these fights feel emotional, feel intimate, feel like you and the boss are standing toe to toe and truly both giving it your all. Defeating the DOG means you are done climbing moutiains, you are overcoming a fixture of reality. The bells that toll for the bosses eventually change meaning from their familiarity, perhaps they have chosen you as their new champion, perhaps you have wrestled them from the influence of another, or perhaps the bells were yours all along. Though these later bosses fight harder than nearly any other, you are their inevitable fate and not the other way around.
Remember the chord progression from Scourge of the universe at the breakbeat part (the finishing one). You will hear it again in Stained, Brutal Calamity. Exactly the same.
Oh, hello! You weren't lying about your addiction. That same progression also shows up at the end of Unholy Insurgency, and I believe it's the progression at the beginning of Feral Amalgamation. I believe it can also be heard in the 7/4 bell part in Toxic Wisdom. It seems to be just a general post-ML boss motif.
@@theforge129 Yeah that one right, but I'm talking about the whole thing. Exactly these all chords from SOTU's breakbeat part are heard in SBC's choir "Ah" part at 6:56 till 7:38. Not just the 2 ascending and last one descending. Give it a go, the ones you mentioned are just for these 4 chords being repeated twice usually.
I loved your reaction the devourers battle theme. You had the same reaction I had when fighting it for the first time. I Truly cannot wait for you to react to both phases of Yharon. Easily the best battle theme in all of terraria. That one puts return to slime and devourers themes to shame with how good it is.
@@musicheaven7868yeah, i personally think the lyrics in Roar of The Jungle Dragon, while a very good callback to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, don't work as well as that game. it's a lot better when they're sung by an opera in Stained, Brutal Calamity
man, every time I listen to the Nonstop Mix it actually brings me to tears, like if im not mentally prepared for it I get overwhelmed and start dancing and jamming out and tears start leakin out of my eyes and, well it's my favorite song I may not listen to it all the time, but it's my favorite song, hands down only took me 23 years to decide on a favorite, but if I was ever going to choose one, it'd be that
It's not from Calamity though. It was originally composed for the normal infernum mechs, but used as a placeholder for the exo mechs until CD Music finishes the actual theme
The first time i played Calamity was with my friends, the battle with the Devourer wast just magick, seeing his second phase and listen the music while every cell of my brain to dodge the attacks gave me goosebumps, we play all night trying to kill this boss, a incredible day to me remembered.
I have listened to these songs several dozens of times, but watching you react to them and play masterfully along with them? I'm sitting here *sobbing.* It's SO beautiful!
you were correct with saying that "its like the boss has multiple phases" beacuse this is a nonstop mix of all of the different songs for the diffirent phases of DoG
After you get through the regular Calamity music, you might want to check out some of the Calamity Infernum tracks. These were made by the talented PinpinNeon. They made new tracks for some of the regular Terraria bosses that really take them to the next level, as well as the rest of the Calamity bosses that had yet to get a theme.
I really want to see his reaction on that masterpiece (especially the Inferior and Catastrophic Fabrication) since there is no one ever react to the Infernum OST, hope he will do that after calamity OST
I'm so excited it's finally here! Universal Collapse is my favorite song in all of gaming, and has been since I first discovered it years ago, so much nostalgia :')
I always love when you add your own part with your crazy looking eclectic violin, you’re very skilled! Also, I’d give anything to hear a song like Scourge of the Universe played by a live orchestra lol
The way you analyse calamity tracks and always find some secrets inside of them is amazing. Cant wait to watch your reaction to roar of the jungle dragon and stained brutal calamity❤
I have been waiting for this one for so long! Absolutely definitely my favourite part of the STELLAR Calamity mod soundtrack. But there's more to come, and I'm excited for that too!!!
I absolutely love the part where the string guitar comes in to play the melody. It feels so pure, no excessive extras to hype you for the battle, just the pure feeling of reflecting on the fight and how you have to win.
Bruh don't call me out like this, my sleep playlist has Stained, Brutal, Calamity, DOG nonstop mix, and Roar of the Jungle Dragon (And half of Tally Hall's Good and Evil playlist)
When you get to the final boss theme (stained, brutal calamity) I recommend pulling up the lyrics and reading along as you listen. The choir is a bit hard to make out in the crazy and chugging beats of DM Dokuro’s composition
I found the music box covers and added them to my collection; I had no idea that you were responsible for their arrangement and creation! Thank you for giving us such peaceful renditions of songs from beloved video games, and for your reactions and analyses of the songs!
The bells I like to imagine the most powerful and god-like entities you fight in Calamity. And the bells give off that feeling of the presence of a god or god-like entity. Which explains why it becomes so prominent later in the soundtrack. Because you start fighting these god-like entities and their power can be conveyed through the bells. Which some songs I think act as a call or herald to the entity and the louder the bells shows the presence of the god-like being in front of you trying to stop your progress in obtaining victory against them.
I don't really ever listen to each of the tracks separately and I've never taken the time to sit down and compare the three tracks to the nonstop mix so it was actually really interesting to see just how much is added in it. I always thought it was just the interlude between scourge and universal collapse as well as little connecting bits between the tracks. I never really realised that it adds so much.
So the Servants of the Scourge is One Theme split across three Bosses, For Each One a Different Segment of the Song Plays, symbolized by the Boss shown in the Music Video.
i actually cannot wait for the next calamity video. The last few are genuinely amazing. even compared to the rest of the great soundtrack, the last 5 are even better and are my absolute favourite songs from any game
Okay wow so much to unpack here! Synth oboe in Servants of Scourge you say? Now that's correct :P (jk jk jk idk what instrument it is) 3:22 is great ear candy! I love songs that have a really strong beat/bass while still maintaining a clear melody. It gives me a full stereo experience. Also SoS has more theme changes than SPG has career changes (I'm joking!!) I would agree with the tasteful combination for Scourge of the Universe. I know not everyone likes music that sends your neurons all over the place. However, I am a fan of it because it incentivizes me to listen again and again and figure out what is being played. Plus I just like the illusioniary feeling that my brain is on fire haha. (Also must look up tarantellas now because I like that part) I love pieces/songs that sound like a whole adventure because it's hard to get bored. Also trying to compose one is a whole different beast that makes you really appreciate works like those of DM Dokuro's. Video Game Music Box you say? I should check that out I was 100% jebaited at 17:52 . Also yes I agree DM Dokuro really loves tubular bells! Not complaining at all. It's cool that there's a "signature sound" associated with the tracks because if your music is recognizable it'll spread faster. From my observations of other composers, this "signature sound" also has to be liked by many people for the popularity to actually grow. It's a hard balance to achieve. But one I believe DM Dokuro achieved! The Nonstop Mix sounds like the player battling a massive headache/migraine in facing off against this annoying enemy for the umpteenth time while also screaming in your head that you can defeat the boss. And each time the enemy "changes form" you have to set a new mantra for yourself. (I believe Terraria is a country...where do you think all your TC fans came from? (JOKING!) ) Also what was that at 37:51!! My jaw dropped! It's amazing how even the range of the piece can make the music sound very "large" or "small". Obviously instrumentation matters, too, however, like said the extreme arpeggios contributed to a "wide" sound.
@@friendofyours7 nice attention span lil bro I'm surprised you made it through the entire video though im pretty sure you just skipped or quit mid-way through
@7:03 yes , i agree i am extremely late on this topic but , you are correct sentinels have two phases each as they are essentially a gear check (the amount of damage and armour etc) , each sentinel has two phases where the track transitions into a much higher beat/pitch version representing the boss is now becoming serious and will go all out , The real skill check tho is DOG, the fight contains 3 phases and similar to the sentinels every phase makes the OST transition in to a more "serious" version. All in all I'm grateful Dm dokuro is getting some recognition (he certainly deserves more) and props to you for listening to the comments interms of suggestions.
Servants of the Scourge, and it's segments during the nonstop mix, are incredible. Each boss shares the same first half, and the second half changes depending on which one you are fighting! Type W (Storm Weaver) is the most similar to the Devourer's own theme, the whole segment being present, because they are of the same species. Type V (Ceaseless Void) is the most intense and different because the Void is a barely sentient and barely controlled black hole of a sentinel. Type S (Signus) is the most melodic because it is sentient and intelligent, the most controlled and loyal of the sentinels.
About all the chiptune/tubular bells and more pixelated feel to Scourge of the Universe, this is because originally the first track it had way back was a remix(arrangement?) from DM Dokuro from Cave Story, in which he still used the sound font to give it the same feel, but composed completely anew. If you ever feel like hearing what that used to sound like, the specific song the Devourer of Gods had in the beginning was: "Cave Story Arranged - Last Battle" It's also quite amazing. If you listen to it you can hear how heavily it inspires Scourge of the Universe, and it's great.
I know that the entire soundtrack has been recorded already, but whilst reviewing the videos, focus on yharim's motif, it will become much more apparent in the other songs (can be heard at 40:12 to 40:15)
I hope he reacts to the Epic Battle Fantasy music because the organ play is insane for As the shadow and Blaze of Iris. It is by far the best music I have ever seen out of any flash game.
little fun fact but scourge of the universe is a kinda redo of the song last battle from cave story. dm dokuro made a remix of that song which was a placeholder for the devourer of gods
I just love listening to the devourer of gods nonstop mix because its just such a masterpiece beautifully combining all 3 songs and adding bits that arent in the orignal songs, and they just tell a story
Did you know that: This song was made about a week after this brand new change to the Devourer of Gods, in which it is given a final form, whipped this up within mere HOURS of this new information Can't wait for 'Roar of the Jungle Dragon!' Maybe try listening to Universal Collapse With Lyrics a fan made song by 'Noah Green' maybe bolth The Regular and the Remastered! Listen to The Binding of Isaac OST's or Devil May Cry 3 or 5 maybe even MGRR (metal gear rising revengace)
You were basically right. There are 3 different bosses you have to defeat before the ultimate bossfight, all of them having the same theme but with a little bit different style. That's what you hear when the music style changes a bit, it switches to another boss theme.
A lot of DM Dokuro’s songs for the Calamity mod has that sort of feeling like “It’s the final battle. You know what to do, but you only have one shot, so make it count!”, and i am all for it.
The part when you get to fight the servants and eventually DoG, is my favorite part of the mod, you can feel the passion, the efforts and the love the devs put in that part, and the OST amplifies all those feelings to the MAX level, you can feel how well made was that part in the mod... This is a true MASTERPIECE
THIS is the episode I’ve been waiting for. Also, really glad that you’ve basically kept with the progression order. Some of the tracks in the official order are out of order with progressing through the modpack.
Im early for once! I see he's run into the great God Eater himself - I'll definitely update this post once I'm done watching EDIT! Oh yeah, Im back, and Im glad that you choset o listen to the nonstop mix - it adds so much to the original, I hardly believed I heard one first before the other. So, each of the themes matches the creature involved: Storm Weaver has bells like the DoG itself because they are from the same, god eating race - only its much younger ( not direct relatives tho) Ceaseless Void is a sentient rip in space time cloaked in armor, its theme first represents that insatiable appetite before showcasing its ability to expell the souls of those it had consumed Signus is an Eldritch Assassin who tried and failed to kill the DoG, but in turn they became work partners - his theme to me seems to indicate "You're almost there" The DoG itself is the pinnacle of the famous worm-boss type of creature in Terraria - worms were always looked dwon upon, but the DoG's race was able to absorb the abilities of those they consumed - this is the source of its power, never ending hunger, and other traits that make it such an interesting boss in lore and in game. The Servants of the Devourer are attracted to the player due to the Player holding a relic they ripped off of Providence (the one with the anime intro boss theme), who they were hunting. Thus each fight is basically your player ambushing them and then using their defeats to lure out their boss. My favorite thing about the DOG's themes are the callbacks to the placeholder song way back used for the boss - also made by Dokuro, this song was a remix of the theme that plays when you face Balrog in Cave Story (hence the chiptune nature of it). It is also a banger, and you could kinda see the DoG's theme as a spiritual successor when you listen too it. I like to think of the intro of the song and the second stage as the DoG unveiling itself, as it usually travels within its own pocket dimension before ripping a hole into the main realm to fight its opponent - or take them back with it. Truely one of the bosses ever
Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees Tubular Bells (which I've always called standing bells) as a substitute to church bells if you wanted to make a real performance of these pieces!
on Scourge of the Universe, the moment it starts and you just hear the sheer weight of those bells gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it. It gives this feeling of "This is it, I'm fighting a REAL divinity right now"
Servants of the Scourge: Types W, V, S, and D; Scourge of the Universe; and UNIVERSAL COLLAPSE... The calmer sections breaking up the action provide a _much_ needed breather. There's a great Beat Saber run of the Nonstop mix with chapters saying exactly what the player thought of each section. During the first few slow parts, they complained about it being boring, but was extremely grateful for the later ones due to how demanding the sections around them were. The other thing is that Servants of the Scourge has an easily noticeable common motif, but I personally feel like it's... incomplete; like it's missing a section. Scourge of the Universe helps feel like a culmination of what came before by completing that motif, and then UNIVERSAL COLLAPSE builds on it further helping it feel like the finale of the entire symphonic suite. Devourer of Gods: Nonstop mix is easily one of the two contenders for DM Dokuro's Magnum Opus. Probably the only negative thing I can say about it is that it doesn't really have a real ending. It just fades out while it otherwise continues going strong. The other contender has no such weakness.

Though these later bosses fight harder than nearly any other, you are their inevitable fate and not the other way around.
Well said!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
That was so good
Lmfao I love how you reacted to the video version of Universal Collapse. The reaction to the intro bait had me laughing
Remember the chord progression from Scourge of the universe at the breakbeat part (the finishing one).
You will hear it again in Stained, Brutal Calamity. Exactly the same.
Gonna listen for it now, I never knew!
Here's what I exactly mean :)

I loved your reaction the devourers battle theme. You had the same reaction I had when fighting it for the first time. I Truly cannot wait for you to react to both phases of Yharon. Easily the best battle theme in all of terraria. That one puts return to slime and devourers themes to shame with how good it is.
I still think dog is better. Maybe it’s because Yharon’s annoying screeches covered up the music for me, but I stand with dogs music
Also a DoG stan here. His theme just hits different, I'm in awe whenever I listen to it, such a treat. Such masterpiece. ^^
@@musicheaven7868yeah, i personally think the lyrics in Roar of The Jungle Dragon, while a very good callback to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, don't work as well as that game. it's a lot better when they're sung by an opera in Stained, Brutal Calamity
infernal catharsis is also really good too
@@DizzyDittoMusicworst song in the soundtrack imo it just feels song and repetitive for me
man, every time I listen to the Nonstop Mix it actually brings me to tears, like if im not mentally prepared for it I get overwhelmed and start dancing and jamming out and tears start leakin out of my eyes and, well
it's my favorite song
I may not listen to it all the time, but it's my favorite song, hands down
only took me 23 years to decide on a favorite, but if I was ever going to choose one, it'd be that
Please, don't forget about "Inferior fabrications", it is also from calamity, but it is written by Pinpinneon, no dm dokuro
And catastrophic fabrications
I'd rather him do a reaction to the Infernum ost as a whole tbh
Im not sure about that, he already missed nuclear monsoon. Maybe we'll get a special video with other calamity composers?
lets hope that we get to hear it 🙏
It's not from Calamity though.
I've been waiting since the first calamity reaction for this video and I'm so glad it's here! Definitely my favorite songs in the whole soundtrack.
SANITY ZERO! SANITY ZERO! Initiating Universal Collapse.
I have listened to these songs several dozens of times, but watching you react to them and play masterfully along with them?
I'm sitting here *sobbing.* It's SO beautiful!
you were correct with saying that "its like the boss has multiple phases" beacuse this is a nonstop mix of all of the different songs for the diffirent phases of DoG
at this point ive built my build around shreding dog that he got killed before universal collapse
THERE IT IS! HE'S STUNLOCKED!
START ATTACKING HE CAN'T FIGHT BACK HE'S STUNLOCKED!
ULT SPAM ULT SPAM!

its time for true melee damage!!!!!
ADRENALINE AND RAGE COMBO!
I really want to see his reaction on that masterpiece (especially the Inferior and Catastrophic Fabrication) since there is no one ever react to the Infernum OST, hope he will do that after calamity OST
royal retaliation my beloved
How underrated the infernum track is brings me to literal tears
infernum music besides inferior fabrications and catastrophic fabrications is kinda mid tbh
Catastrophic fabrications slaps😃
Oh it's just SO fun whenever you cover a song by following the main melody, but then suddenly break off into a completely original melody
The Seahorse Scrutiny's incident was tragic.
I'm so excited it's finally here! Universal Collapse is my favorite song in all of gaming, and has been since I first discovered it years ago, so much nostalgia :')
This has nothingbto do with the music. But can we appreciate this mans hair. The colors are insanely done will, lf its natural you got blessed.
Thank you! My natural color is black hair, I wish I'd have natural red, but artificially colored is the next best thing.
As a person who didn't know i listened to specifically *your* songs (music boxes) i am very pleased
It's crazy how the D.O.G songs have become such comfort music I can fall asleep to them at this point.
the theme of one the most stressful fights becoming comfort music is ironic
@@paracame8162i mean if the music was also stressful i and many more would just give up because it would be the definition of unfun lol
Your SAN has decreased to the point where your DOG is now a friend.
Welcome DOG. Welcome what comes.
Bruh don't call me out like this, my sleep playlist has Stained, Brutal, Calamity, DOG nonstop mix, and Roar of the Jungle Dragon (And half of Tally Hall's Good and Evil playlist)
bruh how do you fall asleep to that those songs make me feel like i drink coffee 10 times each day for a year💀
When you get to the final boss theme (stained, brutal calamity) I recommend pulling up the lyrics and reading along as you listen.
YES, I've been waiting for so long to see you listen to the devourer of gods theme!
The Tubular Bells are used because the ost is. . . Totally Tubular!
. . . I'll see myself out
"A GOD DOES NOT FEAR DEATH"
8:15 the random violin caught me so of guard as I was just playing the video in the background
STUNLOCKED :O ur titles are always so nice haha
So the Servants of the Scourge is One Theme split across three Bosses, For Each One a Different Segment of the Song Plays, symbolized by the Boss shown in the Music Video.
i actually cannot wait for the next calamity video. The last few are genuinely amazing. even compared to the rest of the great soundtrack, the last 5 are even better and are my absolute favourite songs from any game
how am i supposed to focus on beating the devourer of gods when this banger is taking all my attention
Also SoS has more theme changes than SPG has career changes (I'm joking!!)
I would agree with the tasteful combination for Scourge of the Universe.
I should check that out
I was 100% jebaited at 17:52 .
Thank you so much for the wonderful and insightful comment BabySploon!
I ain't readin ALL THAT
That's okay! You're never obligated to read comments not meant for you :D @@friendofyours7
In contrast to the individual before me, and seven months later. I DID read all that, and word for word, I totally agree.
@@friendofyours7 nice attention span lil bro I'm surprised you made it through the entire video though im pretty sure you just skipped or quit mid-way through
The devourer of gods got that DOG in him.
Sorry, I’ll see myself out.
I love the part where he just paused it and said "WOW" and immediately unpaused it
"The air is getting warmer around you."
calamity stunlocks in a lot of ways, the visual stuff, the music and most of all, the 50 homing beams of death being sent at me at the same time
FINNALLY DEVOURER OF GODS NONSTOP MIX LETS GOO
Yes! The reaction video to the DOG gang! Like a late birthday gift, This was amazing!💖
If you listen to it you can hear how heavily it inspires Scourge of the Universe, and it's great.
dm dokuro really is a musical genius and this video like the others really helps us appreciate how much so thank you for that!
I am hyped for his reaction to "Roar of the Jungle Dragon". Nonetheless, great video man!
god i love watching you videos its like sharing music with a friend who likes it just as much as me
I know that the entire soundtrack has been recorded already, but whilst reviewing the videos, focus on yharim's motif, it will become much more apparent in the other songs (can be heard at 40:12 to 40:15)
LETS GOOO, He did do the nonstop mix. my request was seen!!! tysm
no it wasnt, it is part of the devourer of gods theme. your request did jack shit
I hope he reacts to the Epic Battle Fantasy music because the organ play is insane for As the shadow and Blaze of Iris. It is by far the best music I have ever seen out of any flash game.
ebf seen and acknowledged, strongly agree
Oh I didn't know you reacted to the non stop remix thats awesome its such a good remix I listen to it daily
Waiting since Crabulon OST to this day, my favourite Calamity OST! 🤩😆
I am also a string player gamer lol, been gaming for 11 years and playing violin for 5. Love the videos!
I cant believe I've never heard this soundtrack before its amazing I've played Terraria before but this Calamity mod is next level I love it
little fun fact but scourge of the universe is a kinda redo of the song last battle from cave story. dm dokuro made a remix of that song which was a placeholder for the devourer of gods
These songs really fit boss battles. They're complex and intense in just the right mix.
I just love listening to the devourer of gods nonstop mix because its just such a masterpiece beautifully combining all 3 songs and adding bits that arent in the orignal songs, and they just tell a story
Did you know that: This song was made about a week after this brand new change to the Devourer of Gods, in which it is given a final form, whipped this up within mere HOURS of this new information
Can't wait for 'Roar of the Jungle Dragon!' Maybe try listening to Universal Collapse With Lyrics a fan made song by 'Noah Green' maybe bolth The Regular and the Remastered!
DoG when he gets destroyed by a mortal brazillian samurai katana

A lot of DM Dokuro’s songs for the Calamity mod has that sort of feeling like “It’s the final battle. You know what to do, but you only have one shot, so make it count!”, and i am all for it.

@@yoinkzzyk fr?, last time i played calamity was 4 months ago, time for a rerun
Well... not exactly that, but it is so much better.
THIS is the episode I’ve been waiting for. Also, really glad that you’ve basically kept with the progression order. Some of the tracks in the official order are out of order with progressing through the modpack.
Im early for once!
I see he's run into the great God Eater himself - I'll definitely update this post once I'm done watching
EDIT! Oh yeah, Im back, and Im glad that you choset o listen to the nonstop mix - it adds so much to the original, I hardly believed I heard one first before the other.
So, each of the themes matches the creature involved:
Storm Weaver has bells like the DoG itself because they are from the same, god eating race - only its much younger ( not direct relatives tho)
Ceaseless Void is a sentient rip in space time cloaked in armor, its theme first represents that insatiable appetite before showcasing its ability to expell the souls of those it had consumed
Signus is an Eldritch Assassin who tried and failed to kill the DoG, but in turn they became work partners - his theme to me seems to indicate "You're almost there"
The DoG itself is the pinnacle of the famous worm-boss type of creature in Terraria - worms were always looked dwon upon, but the DoG's race was able to absorb the abilities of those they consumed - this is the source of its power, never ending hunger, and other traits that make it such an interesting boss in lore and in game.
The amount of precition you have to do to beat this boss in infernum
Yeah, lmao, took me only like about 650 attempts xD

on Scourge of the Universe, the moment it starts and you just hear the sheer weight of those bells gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it. It gives this feeling of "This is it, I'm fighting a REAL divinity right now"
- What da dog doin?

Playing my part in the "Don't forget Interior Fabrications (And other non-dokuro tracks)!" rally!
The other one is obviously seahorse scrutiny.
