please don't come for me you guys, but i say don't make the chickens. don't make what you don't want to. i have not made a single chicken or duck, i have no desire to make what everyone else is making but i have made your goblins and monsters you put out in patreon. made them times 6 and i got some yarn to make more, i have a monster army. i cant wait for the sitting bee. I am not here because you are doing the norm, i am here because you are NOT doing the norm, your art is beautiful and thoughtful. my first purchase was the mushroom sweat shirt, I live in southern Arizona. i wear a sweatshirt two times a year, but i JUMPED at your designs, i had to chase you down to get that thing, LOL. now not to say you cant do a limited edition drop of the "popular" sellers every few months but do it on your terms.

About your crocheting burnout, I totally get it. Making the same stuff over and over, even if it's something you love doing, becomes boring. It's smart to change things up too, if for no other reason than to keep ahead of the game! The last few markets I've done, there were 3-5 crocheters and guess what they all had? Chickens! Also leggy frogs, octos, bees etc etc. EVERYONE is making the same stuff and the other half are reselling stuff they buy from China! Your products are awesome and are far better quality than most, but there's only so many folks who want to buy chicken stuffies, you know? Same with cups and tumblers. Every body is making them now and hardly anyone is buying anymore because, let's face it, we've all got more than enough cups in our cupboards already LOL
You've often said you can't make money on the smaller things, but are people buying the bigger items? Things like your zombie stuffies: They're cute as heck and I've not seen anything like those around, but how do they sell? Your original monsters are totally adorable (love the new signs with them on btw!) and your new fantasy beasties are so friggen cute it kills me. I don't know anything about making crochet patterns, but could you crochet them? Selling their patterns would be a nice passive income to have too!
Plushies of either/both of those collections? OMFG!!! Take my money!!! (Weighted plushes are the way to go if you can. They are SO much cuter if they're posable...)
I truly believe being different is the only way to have any kind of longevity in this game; slowly building up your original art brand, adding your original stuffies, pins, keychains, shaker charms etc of your original art along with the shirts, totes, mugs... 🤌

FYI - I took the chicken pattern and added three more rounds before the final round, and used the side of the body to create a cat face. Because when you sew it closed, the “corners/ends” looked like ears. Then just made a quick tail, and wa-la! A dual purpose pattern! Something to think about when you’re bored with making the same thing over and over. 😂
I am all about switching things up in patterns!

😊 58:28 🤪 I sew mostly functional gifts that people order thru Amazon so not from a creative field, so this struggle you are having with production is really foreign to me. I operate on making things that sell on the daily, but I always have a long list of items that I will eventually list because you have to be ahead of the trends. The balance allocating the time for “r&d - research and development” and production is what I have trouble with. Especially when the clock clicks closer to the holidays. I try to remind myself of the numbers and what I’m willing to do - like I don’t do social media and I’m opening a storefront soon and offering alteration and home goods services, so no more craft shows. So that’s why I rely on Amazon as my online platform. If you are not performing really well online then can you be assured that only selling your chickens there would bring in the numbers you need?
I guess if you have the luxury of letting go of that crochet income in order to satisfy your creative needs then you’re a lucky lady. I tried doing paperworks primarily and be completely creative, but you have to be on social media and you have to do shows and i have 3 kids and live 4 hours from a traffic light.

Firstly, I totally need a real like not always a cheerleader happy perky accountability partner, but one who I can say I totally fell off the wagon and rolled down the hill and ate a crumbl cookie and all the carbs and she will understand and then help smack me back onto the wagon 😂 That said I've lost nearly 45 pounds since February because I couldn't stay myself anymore and if you need a buddy I'm here.
Next, girl get those monsters and your newest line manufactured as plushies. Do it. They will be HUGE and take so much off your shoulders. I get the crochet woes. I'm over here with the same thoughts. What I'm going to start doing is limited edition of some things and point people to my website so if they *really* want it they can order it. This way I'm not on repeat feeling bored but making new things and then filling a fast order if needed.

You may want to get your thyroid checked. I went through a whole health crisis last year.. and I had some of the same symptoms as you and issues with weight gain but my appetite hasn’t increased at all. Turns I have hypothyroidism which affects so much. Now that I’m on medication, it’s like night and day.
Yea, I have had thyroid issues before so I will definitely be having it checked again at my next appointment.

Hey you should have your thyroid checked. A lot of blood sugar problems can also be thyroid problems and even from your video your thyroid looks swollen
Yes, I have had a lot of thyroid issues in the past and a goiter, which I can tell may be swelling back up. My sugar levels in my last set of blood tests were really out of wack as well, so I am going to be making a dr appointment to get some labs done.

He haw! I sell at cons as well. Not a lot but I'm trying to do just cons for vending vs craft shows as I do so much better at Cons. However, I just crochet whatever I feel like crocheting and I don't do multiples of the items for the most part. There are a few that I make multiples of - but only because I really like making the item. There are things I will replenish one or two at a time if they are good sellers. As I make more money I'll be signing up for more cons. I love it! As far as my suggestion for you choosing between art & crochet or art OR crochet - try the crochet part the way I do it - just whatever you feel like maing and that's what you put out with more focus on your art :)

There is a con I do in South Dakota that is a fundraiser for childhood cancer and that is the one I like to do the most - because all the money goes to childhood cancer awareness/research/aid. Do you get the celebrities at cons shopping your booth? I have at every single one I've done!! That is kinda; cool :) I would SO love to see you at a con and chat away!!! I enjoy your videos so much!
Ya know, I havent had any celebs buying from my table. The best I had was one of the wrestlers at an event. How cool to have that happen so often. I try not to, but I get star struck a bit sometimes. I also love that you do one show with such purpose, that's just lovely.

I don't get sales online. I get scammers. On a real note i sell the few plushies i make through my mums souvenir shop at a popular tourist destination, I can go a moth without getting any sales or sometimes get $20 a month? At this point i am crocheting for my own piece of mind. One thing I notice is that i love patten testing for other and is currently on my 8th pattern test. What i am sayig is i agreed with the thought process of making your own patterns, thats now my goal to make my own pattern and sell them online rather than make physical patterns. Go with creating your own monsters, host tester calls on Instagram and that can serve a your advertisement. You do you and ill continue to follow you along the way, who knows i might come back here in a few months to announce i finnaly made a pattern.

I’m not sure if I will explain this well but I think your crochet sets you apart from other artists. I know crochet is getting more popular now in artist alley but when I walk around at conventions it is no where near as saturated as print/keychain/sticker artists so I think that’s a pro for keeping crochet products in your rotation. Especially when it comes to juried apps or even lottery ones. Usually they only pick so many artists from each category so if you only have 3 other crochet artist to compete with compared to the 30 2D artists then your chances of getting into conventions are much higher too. 🫏❤
