I used to live in the Mojave, I shot out there all the time, so now I watch you in remembrance of the good times I had. Had. Wish you would make more videos
Great to see you back Logan. Don't ever let something you enjoy feel like a chore. Thanks for sharing with us. I'm looking at building a 300 prc. Can't decide on the action as we are limited here in Canada. Now that internation barrels took over ultimatum what are your thoughts on the deadline or the hmb? Or any thoughts on pristine actions?
1/8 twist is a lot faster than 90% of the barrels in this cartridge. You can definitely stabilize those heavy pills but unless your chamber has a long throat as others have mentioned you are using a large amount of case capacity to hold your projos. I’d probably use the 150g ELDX It has great BC (.574 G1 or .289 G7) Also as others have said. Staball 6.5 is a very good powder for getting the most out of the 7mm08. I am getting 150fps more velocity over 4064 with it when using 120g Ballistic Tips.
I love CFE223. I get 2900 fps with the 169 SMK in my .308. I use 5 grains less with 4064 for the 178’s and it gets me 2800fps with no pressure. Id like to build a 22-250AI for the 95 smk with that chassis
I just starting working up loads for my new custom build with a Bartlein 1-9 twist 22 inch barrel. Looking for the 140-162 grain class bullets. Have you testing anything lighter? I was using 6.5 StaBall and didnt have good results. I switched up to H4350 to give it a go, but haven't made it out to the range yet.
How far out can you see impacts on steel with your Tract Toric HD 30 mm. Not sure if that’s the scope on this video but I’m referring to the scope you had on your 7 SAUM at 2200 yards video. Considering purchasing one just thought I’d ask. Thanks for the video!
Nice to see you back man! Why didn’t you use one of your own barrels though? I’m really close to building a 6mm prc varmint rig to run 80gr eld-vt’s out of. Overbore as hell but you gotta play with different things😂
Great to see some content, glad to see you back to shooting. Don't worry about range footage. it's great to have the info. We don't need to see you shoot.
I'm waiting for 7prcw brass. I don't shoot F class so there isnt a need tospend all that time necking up brass. Figuring the ins and outs of the new hype is way too much without a valid use case.
@@somebrains5431 I was going to get a 6.5prc but after seen eric's video I forced myself to wait it out because I have a feeling there will be factory support don't he 7-6.5 soon since he has such a big influence.
Everybody wants to shoot these way heavy bullets in 7mm-08. It's a small case. Powder capacity is very limited with these 160 and heavier projectiles. 120-150 gr is your huckelberry in this cartridge.
There's quite a few videos from hunters in NZ using 708 and Hornady 162 ELDM and ELDX bullets. They seem to kill just fine at some very long ranges. I am new to 708 as of last season with a factory Tikka compact. I like it a lot but now planning on building a couple on Tikka actions with 9 twist barrels and was intrigued when this guy said his chamber is CIP with longer freebore. I'm going to ask my gun builders if they have reamers that will accommodate this to seat bullets out further. I can just use a long action mag in the Tikka and switch out to a long action bolt stop. All that said, I was planning on lighter bullets. In fact, just bought 100 of the Barnes 120 TTSX.
@Accuracy1st After 40 or so years hunting the west I've found the 7mm-08 to be very effective on all North American hoofed big game. It will do 99% of what needs to be done with a good 140gr. bullet. My preference is the Nosler partition and in my rifle it's rolling out at about 2950fps. It will reliably lay em down at 4 to 500 yards which is farther out than one really ought to be shooting at game. I don't believe those heavy bullets you speak of offer any advantage at all within any ethical distance. Even with a special long throat chamber I doubt you can jamb enough powder in that case to really pick up the tempo enough to gain any performance advantage. I've shot this cartridge many years and my 2 cents says 120gr to 150gr bullets is where you'll find your huckleberry. Have fun 👍
@@terryhenry8243 Oh I'm good with that. I don't have any Hornady 162 grain bullets anyway. However, I did just rock a sale on 160 Norma Tipstrike bullets on sale for $29 per 100 so I bought 10 boxes but sent one to a UA-camr I'm subscribed to who just bought a new Tikka 708. They appear to be about the same as a Nosler Btip. I know they work fine on deer and bone from a 280 Rem and a 280AI. My 708 plan is 120 Barnes TTSX, 140, 150 Nosler ballistic tips, maybe these Norma Tipstrike (but I actually got them for the 280AIs and 7RemMags), and I do have about 400 of the Hornady 150 ELDX on hand. I wish Barnes made a 130 grain 7mm LRX or TTSX. I think that would be ideal. I'll have to look at what Hammer and McGuire Ballistics makes in 7mm.
@Accuracy1st Sounds like you got a heck of a deal on alot of bullets. Good luck with those. I'm not familiar with that projectile but it sounds like a good one. BTW, Barnes builds a 139gr and 145gr LRX, LONG RANGE X BULLET. Barnes is a great choice, they just need to be driven hard. I ran the 140ttsx in my 280Ai for years. Devastating bullet but when I started using the 7mm-08 more I went with the 140gr partition. These buggers will shed about 40% on impact and just keep driving with that 60% core. If you like the mono's try some 120ttsx or the 139gr lrx. I think you'd like them. Typically super accurate as well. Good luck!🦌
@@terryhenry8243 Those Norma Tipstrike 7mm 160 grain are still available on raven rock precision site. I was fireforming Norma 280 Rem ammo, the Norma 160 gr tipstrike in one of my 280AIs with a Brux barrel. Shot so well, went ahead and hunted with it. Blew through a bucks shoulders in and out at 80 yards, no issues. I think it must be tougher than the Hornady SST, Nosler Ballistic Tip, and similar tipped cup/core bullets. And the price is fantastic and they are very accurate. I have a lot of 139LRX and 145 LRX and 168 LRX on hand. Barnes just recently released the 160 LRX, originally only available in their 7PRC ammo but you can now buy the bullets for reloading. They also released the 152 LRX specifically for their 280AI ammo. I did not see that it is available to the handloader yet. I have an email to them asking about it. I have a 24" Bartlein barrel on a Defiance Tenacity action chambered in 280AI. I'm getting 3300fps with the 139 LRX over a full case of Superformance powder, 1x fired Norma brass, and Federal 210 Match primers. Accuracy exceeded my expectations.
Truthfully at that barrel length with the AI it could be beaten pretty easily I’m assuming you’re limited by your action bolt face and want it maneuverable but I don’t think you’ll be as much of a hot rod as you may think
@@WestDesertShooter no just love 7mm-08 ai, I normally run shorter barrels my 308 trainer is 18.5 inches. 22. inches I would go with 20 just want to do something different I'm really tall 6'5 so love short guns not a real comp gun. Always nice to see 7mm-08 content and how well it can shoot. Thanks
Very usable round and easy to reload for with lots of choices.
Yep a huge reason why I chose it

Thank-you for sharing the info on the reamer for the chamber.
Glad you’re back. Was wondering about you.

.243 .260 rem. 7mm 08 . .338 fed. .358 win..
About damn time, so tired of all the other guntubers with nothing useful to say...
I appreciate that
Those speeds seem really low. Do you think you will try anything in the 140-150gr class?
Definitely I have lots of hunting bullets in that class to play with
I don't have one but I personally find them too slow with heavier projections
Staball 6.5
Add another 4 grains of varget 👍
Very capable rnd! You made me buy a Tikka btw. 😂
