    Thank you very much for this comparison. I own a Samsung galaxy tab s4 and I'm quite happy with it so far. Though I'm a bit jealous for procreate, but I don't fit into the Apple universe anywhere else...
    Still I think the art comes from the artist and not from the device or the program, and I've seen beautiful art being created with far cheaper options... 😊

      Me too. I'm very happy with my Galaxy Tab S4 after replacing my old Tab Note 10.1 2014. I use Sketchbook pro and ArtFlow for my art. They work really well. Though I'm considering of buying an Apple iPad pro 13" for it's bigger screen and it's Procreate software. If you don't like the softer tip on the S pen, you can change it with the harder tip (should be the darker ones in the replacements provided in the box).
    This makes it great for note taking. Friction is minimal, hence the pen flows on the screen with ease.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 5 років тому +9

      huyked I have both and the iPad has the less reflective screen and is significantly better outdoors.
      Also the Tab is laggy compared to the iPad. Of course, you may get use to the lag but having both it is very noticeable.
      The iPad ecosystem is much better with some great apps that makes such a huge difference.
      Also the iPad has an up to date SOC where as the Tab has an old chipset.
      The iPad has far better accessories. The Tab has a glass rear which is one of the stupidest designs I have ever seen.
      There are far more options with the iPad from LTE to higher storage.
      Battery life seems similar though the standby time on the iPad is much better.
      The Tab S4 has a measley 4gb RAM and on Android especially Samsung that it simply not enough.
      Overall the iPad is an easy choice especially as you can buy the iPad Pro 10.5 for around the same price as the Tab S4. The S4 is probably the best Android Tablet but I can see why Google has given up with support for tablets, the iPad has won the war. It is a shame but with iOS 13 likely to improve the iPad experience even more, the gap is now beyond recovery.

      I don't like Apple in general. Overpriced for what you get. No cheap storage expansion. Dongles. Can't fix. No drag and drop files (forced to used iTunes to Sync on one computer which is a hassle)
      But for these two, as Teoh points out, I would like better just because I hate lagginess for drawing. Here's why I don't like Apple: ua-cam.com/video/2yJKix17yYE/v-deo.html

    • @joannegrrl
      @joannegrrl 5 років тому +4

      @@huyked - Overpriced for what you get is always an interesting argument. Apple is expensive, no question, but then you see videos like this one and you realize that there are some subtle differences that actually count when it comes to the experience. Teoh didn't compare the smaller iPad Pro, which isn't massively more expensive than the Tab 4, but now comes with USB-C and magnetic charging of the pencil. The drawing experience on that is even better, especially with twice the refresh rate. Throw in Procreate, for $10, and there's simply nothing comparable in the tablet space.

      Thank you for sharing your real world experience. Why did you buy these two tablets? Just wanted to test firsthand?
      Yes, I wouldn't like the lagginess in writing/drawing.
      I don't know what you mean about Apple having the better ecosystem. I always disliked that they did the dongle thing to sell overpriced dongles. Crazy!
      Glass rear would be a nightmare for dropping. But I did drop an old ipad (someone gave me) from a chair and unfortunately it landed on the corner front display and shattered. Sensitive electronics that are heavy like tablets just aren't meant to be dropped? LOL.
      You can buy the LTE version for the Tab S4. What more options on Apple versus Galaxy? You can expand the memory with the Galaxy with a cheaper microSD and swap it easily compared to Apple.
      Measly 4GB ram on Galaxy Tab S4?! What?! You can't even find the ram spec on the official Apple site! www.apple.com/ipad/compare/
      It looks like it is only 3GB of ram for the 2019 version for the iPad Air. Come on! At least Samsung lists the ram spec for all to see. Okay, you talked about the iPad Pro 10.5. It's 4GB, too, so... lol Measly 4GB comment just doesn't compute.
      Video wise, the Galaxy S4 is 4K (30fps) vs. Apple Air is 1080p. Pro 10.5 is 4K (60fps)
      Apple is just too shady for me: ua-cam.com/video/2yJKix17yYE/v-deo.html
      Your conclusion is interesting (though, not necessarily agreed upon) about how you think Apple has won the tablet war. I certainly hope not for competition/pricing sake.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 5 років тому +3

      huyked hi.
      With regard to RAM the two OS’es operate differently and I am confident 4gb on the iPad is as good as 6gb on a Samsung device. I certainly have never had any issues with the iPad, but my Pixel 3XL with 4gb has been very poor.
      I get glass breaks and it just seems silly to put more glass in a product that is mobile? Yes, the glass display will break but what is the reason to put on the rear? I will answer that, it is cheaper.
      I use the tablets in an Enterprise environment and SD card readers are off limits as they are removable and an audit nightmare.
      I used both devices to see if Samsung had improved over the years. My previous experience was bad and seeing all the creators hyping the Tab I thought I ours try it. It is ok, and if you are happy with ok then fine, but with Apple giving 5-6 years of updates and Samsung probably 1-2 on the Tab S4 and it clearly being an inferior device I can see why Android tablets are dying. Sony, Google, LG and most of the big guns have given up on premium tablets.
      I agree, with Windows tablets dead in the water and Google stopping supporting Android Tablets it is not good for consumers. However it was a bad business model, freeware (Android ) used by any company to make a tablet is usually a recipe for disaster, as competition reduces margins and leads to cost cutting. The market is fractured with no one company able to make it pay. That is what Apple got so right and even though the youth market hates the iOS closed system, it means a business can have a long term business plan rather than making a quick buck and then giving up.
      Cheers.

The iPad Pro 10.5" has the same Lightning port as the iPad Air 3 and supports the Apple Pencil 1 just like the iPad Air 3. Please learn the specifications of the devices you are referring to before referring to them. This is extremely basic. Fifteen seconds of research would have led you to learn the actual specifications of the iPad Pro 10.5".

      @@joannegrrl Yeah, the iPad Pro is significantly more powerful. From benchmarks I've seen, it's more than three times more powerful. But it's still an iPad limited by iOS features. iPad Pro drawing performance is excellent (Air 3 is too). New finger tap feature on the Apple Pencil. Nice. All that for at least US $330 more. You have to decide whether those features are worth that extra money. The 2017 iPad Pro by comparison are better value for money.
      Things I don't like about iOS are the file management system, no external storage functionality, text selection,, expensive internal storage capacity, LTE connectivity upgrade at a much higher price. All these got nothing to do with drawing though. With Android, downsides are the variety, quality and consistent performance of drawing apps.

    • @joannegrrl
      @joannegrrl 5 років тому

      @@teohyc Not sure I see iOS as all that limited in actual practice and the app quality is, truly, above the Android market. Admittedly, I'm not an active Android user these days, but I also have the Surface Book and Surface Studio as a comparison point. Some of the file management behaviour of iOS is irritating, quite true, but I agree with the general direction Apple is headed and it's also where Google is headed (and arguably leading). Back in the day, Sun Microsystems had the motto of "The Network is the Computer" and, while they may have been ahead of the game with that, they weren't wrong. Net effect? On device storage in an increasingly connected world? Not a priority, but Apple does need to handle cloud storage way better.
      However, none of that is really relevant, the deal breaker on the Tab S4? The stylus... Samsung does a really good job on look, feel, and composition of the device and then pairs it with that stylus? Really? Face palm.
      Also, as a semi-pro Photographer, I have to be honest, the specs in the iPad Pro are worth it to me and I'm definitely looking forward to the full Photoshop port coming to iOS. 😃

    It's been a couple months now since I've bought this tablet and it is great. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxLNmVocUk8tnSkwWIlYSNFzWRIaFTBuzS The tablet is responsive and runs well. There were a few times that the tablet did an awkward thing where it would detect pen on at all times and wouldn't register finger press, but it is usually fixed by closing and opening either the screen or app. This is highly likely due to my excessive use for drawing which caused this and wasn't really very big. As I mostly enjoy using the tablet for drawing (and some light gaming), I would comment from that aspect that there is definitely more accurate pressure and drawing using a PC device and drawing tablet, however i find the moveablity of the tablet more enjoyable to draw on. Like how you can physically rotate and move a piece of paper around or even draw casually on your bed.All in all, as a tablet it is good, and as a drawing device can be good depending on what you want from a drawing device. It is definitely good enough if you just want to use it to take notes. For typing though I can't comment on the keyboard as I did not get the keyboard.

    Quick question. Do you go in settings and clean memory often? I do it on my tab s3 and it significantly improves performance it’s annoying, but it helps. I also have both, and I like the iPad better, but I need TVpaint for work so that Galaxy Tab is my coffee shop solution for that app. I personally found the Spen overall better than the Apple Pencil. Mainly the friction reminds me of drawing with a Felt tip pen, which is my preferable real life way of drawing and no battery. But the performance and android quirks make me go back to iPad when I don’t need to use it. This was not a quick question. Sorry. Great review though ;)

Select those you want to be always off, then it's done. I've heard news that the upcoming Tab S5 (not the Tab S5e) will be having top of the line specs and the newest processor, unlike using last years processors in the Tab S3 and S4, and will be using the new OS that is powering the Galaxy fold.

    Im currently thinking about buying sams s4. Im on my last grade in highschool and if I get enough point I will study in the animation and art department in a university. As I learned there is a Wacom lab in there so I will be able to use at least a wacom device.
    But my actual question in here: I started think about buying a samsung or ipad since I need a personel computer to use for browsing, writing etc. and especially drawing. I changed my mind about buying an Intuos Draw since it needs a computer to connect ,which is not useful for me, and one of my art teacher told me that using a device like that would harm my drawing skills on traditional art.
    So is Samsung tab s4 suitable for using as a mini laptop ( I dont require high performans ) for a new uni student like me?

    Und ich mag Apple nicht weil alles so verschlossen ist kann mir hiermit vlt jemand helfen ?

    Hello. Not an artist here. I am deciding between both. I am able to get the S4 for 420 EUR and the iPad Air 2019 for 500 EUR. I will mostly use device for browsing the web, UA-cam and occasionally drawing doodles for fun. And I suppose 95% of the time I will be using it in portrait mode, on top of my knee while I rest on my couch. So I was wondering is the overall experience on the S4 significantly worse than the one on the iPad (in respect of smoothness of operation, mainly in browsing, and in respect of ease of use with one hand, as well as typing on the screen). I will appreciate if someone shares his opinion. :)

      Maybe the S4 is good enough. Note that Apple Pencil is not included and cost a lot.

    • @ivelinrb
      @ivelinrb 4 роки тому

      Teoh Yi Chie Thank you for the immediate response. I have almost decided to buy it, but there is some fear in me that basic operations in the S4 will suffer in the long run and that Apple’s browsing experience will be better because developers recognize iOS it as the standard for tablets and don’t bother with optimizing android experience. I am an iPhone user that switched from a galaxy device because of how steady the system runs while performing basic tasks like opening contacts, browsing the image gallery etc, but man, I hate how everything is restricted, especially the file transfer. So the unchained system is what draws me to get the android tablet but if the everyday use is cumbersome I will deeply regret the purchase because I really don’t need a tablet and 500 EUR will be better spent somewhere else. If the iPad was little cheaper and the god damned apple pencil was not 110 EUR, but maybe half, then I would bet on Apple.

    Samsung should've just stuck to the design language of the S-Pen on the Tab S3.

I notice that you link to the Wimaxit portable touch monitor, but actually you are linking to the one star version, there is another one by the same company that looks better and comes with a display cover/stand hybrid. www.amazon.com/WIMAXIT-Portable-Monitor-1920x1080-Built/dp/B07J53B7NS (not an affiliate link)
