My band director assigned us a solo hero assignment and I wrote about you! I appreciate the fact that you're not scared to admit your mistakes and are so humble despite your talent! Love you!
Katie,
Musicians don't age like other people.
I'm a Clarinetist, I'm 78 and I feel 14...not:)
I think having played for so many years have given me an excellent breathing system and has kept me active mentally.
You are just starting your life adventures as a musician, and you will keep learning your entire life.
Perfection is subjective, so as long as you love what you do and enjoy sharing with others, I think your musical growth will occur naturally.
Stay well, strive for happiness.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Frederick Spector wow that’s amazing! I’ve played clarinet for 7 years and I still love it as well as starting on flute 😄
@@randomneko3786 Ditto
Two crazy years have passed and I am still feeling well, so maybe
It’s my clarinet that’s my virus deterrent!
I started in grade school, played through High School and a little college.
I’m a OK player but nothing like some of my classmates kie Lew Sloff or Willian Goldstein,
Look them up on You Tube.
I never wanted to work that hard:)
Cheers,
Rick Spector
That’s Lew Soloff, he was a great trumpeter with Blood, Sweat and Tears and Bill composed for Movies,
Hi Katie, thank you for passing on your experiences. I'm a 13 year old girl who started off on Violin at FIVE and decided to play the flute 2 years ago.
Everytime I watch your videos a voice in my head says: "Take your trombone and practice RIGHT NOW!".
Maybe that's a kinda advertising, I don't know.
Aha! You dodged the question at 0:00! So that's totally true! You studied flute your whole life, than made a channel about it just to not play it! I knew it!
P.S.: Obviously kidding, you're Katie Flute, not Katy Perry...
twoset fans 😎🔥
I think you're an amazing ambassador for the flute. If I had had you as a role model when I was young, I would definitely have been inspired and more motivated. I only played the flute for two, very mediocre years but I regret that now. (Although part of that decision was moving from one state with an amazing school band director to another system that didn't make sense to me. Along with going from a house to an apartment.) But I still am not very musically inclined. Anyhow, keep up the great work you do. I know there are things you want to accomplish and I truly hope they happen, but these videos of yours could truly be a lasting legacy and inspire so many others. On another note, 28 seems very young to me, so definitely don't stress about your age. It is just a number.
Please join Twoset for a video, their violins, and your flute would be a match made in classical music heaven. Can you do Paganini caprice 24 on flutes?
I'm totally down for some flute choir!
"I don't consider myself a perfectionist, as I've never done anything perfectly"... Well that's definitely a really precise description of what a perfectionist is :D
Your hair looks so pretty today Katie! Have a great day!😊
Katieflute... Your amazing i dont believe all the mean comments they are jealous of your talent
Do the ling ling work out!!
Do a collab with twosetviolin
My university's flute studio (that I'm a part of) is doing a virtual flute choir in light of a lot of schools doing remote classes now due to the COVID-19. We have around 50 people that reached out, so right now we have our flute studio leading Zoom sectionals for a Nicole Chamberlain piece and we will all eventually record ourselves individually and the videos will all be edited together. It's really great to get people playing again in large groups, especially since most ensembles are halted for the rest of the semester.
I'm a choir kid, but I have recently started watching you and I want to play the flute. It's not my only reason, but you definitely play a role in it.
Me too I've been learning the piano for almost two years and it's wonderful
@@billiea9756 Thats really sad, i guess i’m one of the lucky ones. (Not for flute though) i hope you’re enjoying drums
I have played flute for 2 years now and was going to take my grade 8 exam but unfortunately it has to be cancelled.
I love you so much Katie!!!
#FLUTEPOWER
you are also so funny when answering the assumptions 😂
Liking this video for many reasons but ESPECIALLY because you don’t like cats and you’re a dog person. That part was so wholesome.
omg I love you Katie!!! You are such an inspiration to me and you have been so helpful!! Also i would love to hear your full Poulenc Sonata.
YAY! I have been waiting for you to post this ever since you mentioned you filmed it in a video! I love your videos! YOU ARE AMAZING!
Aw I love you Katie and your videos 💕you always remind me of why I love to play flute so much ☺️
Yes sax fingering are very similar. But it’s heavy, and everything you do with your mouth is different. There’s also back pressure so breath control is totally new. Left hand little finger is particularly hard.
Yes!!! Sax video please! I learned to play alto sax in 9th grade just to cover a jazz band concert! It was so weird to play a reed instrument, but the fingerings were very similar. Oboe fingerings are also very close to flute. Please make videos of you learning other instruments! Love the idea!!
The flute Choir would be amazing! I am not in your state though.....
Yes. That is the perfectionist's mindset. You are one of my people✌
Katie, I am glad that you cleared the air about assumptions that others have about you. I really enjoy your videos, keep us informed!
I will join your flute choir
Petition to make the flute choir possible
Lol @ all of these. As a fellow professional musician I understand your struggle and also love this channel keep it going! It has helped me so much with my own flute students!
you are soooo beautiful :)) loves from Turkey. also I started playing flute after 2 years break :D I get motivated with your videos! Thank you so much :)
the sax video idea sounds cool, but i really loved your vlogs about concert or audition preparation. its just so interesting! :)
maybe you could do another one of those? love your videos, keep it up :)
I learnt to play the flute well over 40 years ago. Back then, our tutors told us to practice for one hour every day. I did it and loved it. I don’t regret all the practicing and still play almost every day even now. I hope you continue to enjoy playing your music. Love to you. Dawn 🌅
Love your blue head band omg
Maybe you could put in a NFA proposal for a Katie Flute Choir!
*BEAUTIFUL*
5th hundred like. I'm 34 and feel 186. But with experience comes wisdom.
28/29 is so young Katie, youre a young adult, very few people have it together at your age or 30.......or any age really. I get you about the age pressure when it comes to instruments though. I play violin, piano and only recently picked up cello. But when people see me, they expect me to be some kind of child prodigy, and I feel this weird pressure that I have to wow people with my skills you know. I can "wow" people on the piano, but whenever someone asks me how long I've been playing violin or cello...i know they expect or want to hear "oh since I was 5 years old!", I feel somewhat embarrassed being an adult beginner.
A way to make the flute choir possible is to have everyone send you a video of them playing and you can put them all together
"First of all I was always a human girl..."
Love you Katie❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I relate so much to how you feel about your age. I was turned off from my dream of playing the flute at the age of 10 after having a terrible teacher. Now at 30 I'm getting back into it and am so glad I haven't given up on the joy it brings me.
Thanks for your warmth and honesty, and for getting me interested again.
omg omg can't believe I made it in the video this made my day Katie. keep up the great work. :D I picked up a tin whistle to help me start my journey of becomming a fluteist someday in the future.
I don’t play flute but I can relate to a lot of what you talk about, especially the pressure to have accomplished certain things by particular ages. I’m trying to let go of that expectation as it’s ruining the joy of birthdays!
My friend who plays the saxophone has picked up my flute and gotten almost all his fingers on the right keys and I believe we've actually discussed how similar the fingerings are
Lexi N I’m a flute player and I’m learning saxophone right now and the placement is the same and the first 6 notes are the same fingerings as flute
assumption from the first 3 seconds... 'Flute mum loves blings!' From the phone cover, pearls, fairy lights to the candle. Just saying.. ;p I'm just sensitive visually because of my work and happy birthday month! You'll start to care less from 30 onwards, welcome to the club! :)
Absolutely yes to a saxophone video! :)
Hope you are doing well!
You play well. From my point of view as a singer.
I have been looking for a good flute channel and have finally find my flute mom 😁💜
Clarinet and alto sax have a few of the same fingerings. Played the clarinet all through school. And the alto sax for semester my senior year in high school. Can also play the flute. Love the instrument.
^7:50 I was the same way. I remember feeling superior carrying my Music Theory for Dummies book around in 7th grade😂 (I’m planning to major in music comp now)
yesss go a flute choir!
Yassssss I want to see you try the sax!
I remember 28, you’re ok, don’t obsess over it, just keep going !!!
I am a flute player in concert band, but I play tenor sax in jazz band, and yes. The fingerings are very similar. It took me two days to fully get the sax fingerings down
A lot of folks that study at Julliard hesitate to say those were "happy" years. I wonder...
I can play the oboe and wanted to play the fute and my mom is a flutist so I took her flute and learned the simplified version of habanera from the carmon opera
Definitely a Sax challenge that would be awesome!
Yess! When you get the chance, please do sax! I'm a flute/ sax player and would love it!
Yasss make that Sax video. I tried switching to Sax it was not a great idea 🤣
Love your videos! May I ask where you got your headband? I need some good headbands.
I forgot watching that video about nerves, and I thought that you also did that, but I remembered that I did the same because I watched your video.
My parents don’t ask me to practice, so I ended up practicing 5 HOURS last week
My sister hates my flute
I was a high school band geek, playing flute in concert band and piano in the stage band. My piano experience did include jazz (big band swing era and fusion). I'm 60 and just learning to improvise on my flute. Improv is not a natural part of my musical abilities, but it is a labour of love.
If you have any saxophone questions hmu haha, also I love dogs that much too. Yes the fingerings on sax are similar - I suck at flute though. Maybe I should take your idea and film myself trying to learn flute in one week haha.
you will pick up the sax in a heartbeat....yes a lot of the fingerings are the same...just learn to blow on that reed and you will have it made (clarinet isn't so bad either...but sax is easier)
Great vid! +1 to learning to saxophone
Could you do a video talking talking about your experience at Juilliard/ music school over all?
Heck, i left a coment regardless what flute should i buy if i am a beginner in your last video and then you post this one now! Lol, well, the question is the same, sorry for the spam, love your content! Such an inspiration!
I’m 27 (I’ll be 28 this coming November) and a lot of times I think the same way. I finished undergrad at 23, took two years off between undergrad and grad school (I’m graduating in May with my masters).
Yes that’s true I’m a flutist who’s learning saxophone for jazz band. The placement on saxophone and the first 6 fingering (b a g f e d) are the same as flute (but there are extra keys)
I feel the sax video would be so easy for you, I learned how to play sax very fast as a flute player!
I'll be 30yo on Monday. I'd say I consider you more like a flute sister. Haha! I do so feel that you're relatable to me as a sister as far as our personalities match. Haha! But in terms of musicianship obviously you're worlds better than me. Haha! I definitely could learn a lot from you. :)
The fingerings for the flute and alto sax are kind of similar, but not totally. G is very similar, it is the same without the right pinky. C is very different though. It just depends.
If I ever purchased the double bass i would be down to play. But I played percussion
I am a flute player that recently got a 🎷. I thought I'd be great automatically. Fingering is very similar to flute, but using a Reed is nuts! You build the mouthpiece every time. Squeaking is always a problem!
I’m learning the flute at school but when I first tried out it was hard to make a sound but now I can play a song
well done...keep going hun you will get there.....I have played for 22 years now 🙂
“Lit-er-ly” lol
Same thing happens to me too lol
I play flute too...
O my goodness. Katie you look so much younger
I'm 30, I like it, I'm too old to deal with anxiety so I feel better now lol can't be bothered. It is what it is. All that fun jazz
I play clarinet but I feel like I shouldve played flute and im pretty good but I dont know what to do.
I play sax and flute and you should totally play saxophone It is very similar to the flute and I learned saxophone very quickly after playing flute for a few years. The main differences are there is no button for the thumb besides the octave key
I have a Gemeinhardt 3shb. It has the low B foot, open hole. “Is that a good flute?”🤣 Have you made a video showing us all your instruments?
I play flute and alto sax and it’s not that hard to make that transition. Honestly, I learned in about a week. The fingerings are almost identical so it’s basically leaning the embouchure for sax.
By the way sax and flute are very different. And the oboe is very similar (the way you blow into an oboe is an inverted way of blowing into the flute). 😉
you are correct with the fingerings for flute and sax being similar my friend who plays flute plays sax as well. but you should try clarinet because its fun and its lighter then the sax. and also because I am a flutist and I also play clarinet.
Can you all imagine if all your followers really Could get together... man... that'd be a huge group.
I was finally able to meet James Galway a few years ago in Dallas, TX.
I did the same and got his signature and took a couple pics with him and his wife. I was so excited since I'd never been able to get to any of his other concerts due to distance.
I see a Lot of myself in you and a Lot of your responses about your life and flute playing... like a Lot! It's crazy! Except the sax thing... I'm a pretty good actor sax player and played it in jazz band from Jr high through college since nine of the bands ever wanted a flutist. I've also been playing piano since I was 2 and started singing when I was about 8 or 9. My mom was a singer but it wasn't always my fav thing since I didn't want to be labeled as "Oh! You're Sharon's daughter"
Funny enough, it still happened until I was in high school and competing in local/region/area and state auditions. People finally started to do it to my mom when they met her... "Oh! You're Shelly's mother"
Lol
Oh and yes, I'm still a very active musician... 35 years and still going!
You don't like cats ? :(
I love u and your channel anyways
DO THE SAX!!!!
U can play sax. My daughter stated on flute and added sax and fingerings are almost the same
Maybe you could try to play the clarinet for a video
Katie: *shows pic of her riding*
My equestrian self ready to roast her form:
I haven't thought about that Barbie horse game in at least 20 years ahahahhaha
Lol, its funny you talk about age and life accomplishments. I was looking at one of your vids you posted and you were in a living room with the beautiful fireplace. For a spit second there i thought how young you look and having a beautiful home and I'm in my late 40's wondering where the heck I went wrong. Heck! My living room doesn't look half as good as yours. Anyways, thought I would share. Keep up the good work. I learn how to play the acoustic guitar when I was 45 and know more songs than I do on the piano which I've been playing since I was 6! How crazy is that!
What is the name of your intro song
Did you ever try the saxaphone?
Hey just got a piccolo but I never really learned the flute but I play the saxophone. I've tried to find a book for piccolo but I haven't been able to find one. I've also had look on the internet to find a good video on the fingerings. I can get a sound pretty well. Can you please make a video.
Please make that video
u are exactly me as a freshman in high school. its so accurate its not even funny
You should do a collab with The Flute Channel
Twoset fans: she is one of us😈
