- Hi, everyone! I’m finally uploading this video. Last year I preordered this Abbeville Press collector’s edition set of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain illustrated by Norman Rockwell, but life has been so busy that it took me months to be able to film and upload this review. I read these books as a boy . I seem to recall finding a shabby clothbound version of Huck Finn that likely belonged to my mother. It was literally falling apart.. I believe at this point ( 1966) I had already been exposed to Tom Sawyer so I knew who Huck was. Years later in school we "studied" Huck Finn in Am Lit class and I have likely read both stories a few times.. I have an alternative Huck Finn version (Neider) which re-inserts the missing chapter that was published separately prior to the book's release. It also has a controversial liberal re-writing of the final chapters, where Tom appears.
I mainly was looking around for the value of a early 1960s Heritage Press edition of the Rockwell illustrated Tom Sawyer. I acquired this in the early 1980s at a book fair. I knew of the Rockwell plates as my Aunt had some framed versions in her library. I don't suppose it is very rare. I have now seen your lovely acquisition priced affordably and now want a matched set too.

Thanks to your review, bought these. And they are just of insane quality! Fully sewn, cloth-bound, incredible paper and pictures! At a ridiculous price. That’s how a perfect book should look like! Unlike half glued half sewn EML(what a disappointment!). So, thank you for the review! The most beautiful books in my library now!

I’m not 100% sure but when I read the introduction I think they mentioned this is the uncensored text.
A really attractive set. The problem is: I cannot justify purchasing it, as I already have Tom Sawyer & Huck in other editions. I refuse to be that selfish; and I have purchased so many books already, I still haven't read. Point your finger of shame in my direction 🤪
I definitely can relate to you situation. I always promise myself not to buy more copies of the same book. I’m not always successful in that intent I must admit, but the intention is commendable lol
@@BookCravings And I do commend you for trying. I have the tendency of purchasing a spare used hardback copy, to not spoil my new hardbacks! I know I'm pathetic; I own it. Just keep telling yourself "you know you have a problem" - it is the first step to recovery x
