Talking about Middle School Theatre really took me back. And my experience really fits in with your discussion about how Rent Jr. would work. The drama teacher at my middle school also did a summer theatre program, and most of the shows we did in middle school and the summer program were age appropriate. We did Peter Pan, Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Wizard of Oz, Li'l Abner...and then Grease. This was almost 40 years ago, so Grease Jr. wasn't a thing yet, so our director edited it herself. Instead of Rizzo getting pregnant, she was also seeing two other guys besides Kenickie. It was the weirdest change, it almost made it worse I think.
