I can't imagine setting this up!! I know the map is huge, but then you've got 4 or 5 large displays for each side to array off to the side!!! You need to rent a gym to play this!!! :o
Geeze, I wondered briefly if that was my old copy that I had given away to a fellow SFBer, but I actually played the opening scenario with my friends way back when. Yes, it was a titanic effort. And we didn't understand half the rules. Monster of a game.
The articles on combining WIE and WitP would have been in Moves or Strategy & Tactics as they were SPIs house organs. I have a copy somewhere, but it be packed away. Also, sad you have an unpunched version with the box in that poor a shape. Makes me want to cry.
Fun game and started but never finished. Might have had more sucess with a team on each side! I fabloned my box (good idea for all of SPI's 4" boxes) and, for this game only, the maps too. Stored flat
In a fascinating development, I was actually contacted a couple of weeks ago by the original owner (not the fella who sold it to me). The story was, there was a house fire, and attempts to sponge the smoke smell off the game box resulted in this formerly-soggy state. And I think that smell is still VERY slightly detectable.
if you are anything of a like me the question going through your head in about two months time will be 🤔 How much will it cost me to get a very poor copy of the game but in a really nice box so I can combine the two into one near prefect copy
I keep seeing the Decision Games one on eBay for like 400 bucks, and I want it so bad. I don’t have anything like the room to play it, And my poor ass DEFINITELY doesn’t have the money to buy it. Eh. Maybe some day.
@@ardwulfslair that’s ok. I never play one map scenarios, except for learning scenarios. I have a sick need to, no matter how big or complex the game, always and only play the largest scenario.

That's probably the nicest looking old components in the worst looking old box, I've ever seen.
Had it when it first came out in my youth. Set up and started the campaign game a few times, but never could get to the end.

I've got a few games on the Pacific War but this one is definitely outside of my price target
I have the original version in the flat pack(s)--yeah, I'm that old!
I think the only game more complex than War in the Pacific 1st edition, is War in the Pacific 2nd edition.

And missing one counter! Although thanks to a helpful individual from one of the Facebook groups, that particular problem has been remedied.
@@ardwulfslair USS New Jersey, Missouri, Arizona or IJN Yamato?
Thankfully it was a generic Japanese infantry brigade. Still looking for a fresh box, though.

Water damage seems somehow appropriate...

Occasionally empty boxes show up on ebay.

You do not want the Decision version IMO. The SPI version actually has at least one meaty one-map scenario.
