    Nice video Mike!
I cleaned my 9.5 hp carb but still had to poke with fine wire the three holes in the main carb throat (idle mixture fuel delivery ports).
I also had to run wire through the bowl drain opening about 3” in to clear debris.
Also the carb kit I bought on eBay the threads on the needle valve seat were improperly cut so I “chased” them with a “die” so they would thread in properly.

I called and spoke with you today about the Clinton motor. Glad I found your page. Been helping out a lot

Lock tight on the bowl drain bolt is a good idea. I had some back out from vibration on my 70 horse Johnson

Great video. In the manual it says that one should remove the brass orifice behind the drain plug. Any thoughts? Mine is stuck. I ended up drilling it open with a #48 drill. Thanks

    Mike,
I was surprised you didn’t remove the drain plug before you dipped the lower half of the carb…,

T-Mike, great vid, helped alot. Couple questions... i noticed when you went to replace the large Welch plug in carb body after cleaning, you took the supplied plug from kit and I saw (briefly) you droop it into the it's hole. It looked EXTREMELY loose. The next frame shows you replacing the little plug first...then suddenly after the edit, you have a larger welch plug already sitting in the larger hole and you proceed to tap it in. First question, was that the plug supplied in your rebuil;d kit or do you have a source for the CORRECT size plugs, because my kit was exactly the same way. In fact, I had to reuse my old welch plug!
Second question, I have two 9.5 Johnsons, one long, the other short shaft. One runs perfect, the long shaft only runs on choke, EVEN WITH known good carb and pump from other motor. I've gapped/cleaned it's points and swapped plugs (good spark). Checked compression (70psi-same as good motor) but no tuning I have done can make this motor run w?o choke. This long-shaft is in immaculate condition, I assume it had been restored at some point, but I am stumped why it won't run right with same fuel delivery as other good motor has. Any ideas sir?

@@michaeljsimon yeah. Figured my SECOND question would bring out some $, but I thought you could surely answer my first one for free. Just asked where you got correct Welch plug ‘cause I saw you pull the “fast one” off camera. But hey, I thought likes and subscribes helped too. No?

      Answer to second question:
      Try changing fuel pump
      Good luck,

@@michaeljsimonas stated put good known fuel pump on it. But thanks for reply. If I could beg once more you answer this:
Do you have a source for proper Welch plug?
From your own video I saw you had an issue with that larger Welch plug.
Could you please give me an answer on that question?

I sell all the parts you need and I have never had trouble with Welch plugs.

Should a warm 9.5 engine that has been run in a test barrel for 15 mins still require choke to start?

      No

    • @michaeljsimon
      @michaeljsimon  6 місяців тому

Depends did you choke it to stop it or low idle to stop it.

@@michaeljsimon have shut off both methods and still had that issue i did the fuel pump modification you used on another 9.5 with the think kohler style fuel pump . im slowly testing different things. I just cleaned and went through the carb new float and needle seals etc. Wondering if maybe it could be plugs or something.... runs great ...litterly pull the choke if the engine is warm and one too two pulls and runs no issues...doesnt require choke to stay running.

Whats it cost to have you do a rebuild like this?
