All that time and effort, to see the grin on your face as you floored the throttle and let the engine roar, completely worth it. Here’s to many more miles of happy motoring.
Awesome work, Eric! The big smile on your face while driving it makes me happy! And as a Mechanic of over 35 years, I am proud of you for the job you did! And you should be proud too. Have a great day, Sir! And God Bless! o7
I am also a restoration hobby participant. Your problem with the radiator hoses was totally Bubba’s fault. Doesn’t matter what kind of car, if it’s old, Bubba has been there and will modify or misuse any part anywhere. When I start a restoration I always look for Bubba’s work so I can correct it. Bubba really gets around!!!
I share with you the same thought when it comes to "some cars are just good the way they are" as you grow older you really start to appreciate the simplicity of things and mostly in older cars. Sometimes less is more and anything can work and be functional as long as you take good care of it and give it the proper maintaneace.
38:12 That brought a real smile to my face. I know exactly (exactly!) how that feels. And the funny thing is, it is such a nice feeling that you (I...) end up doing it again and again. Much more satisfying than just buying something that runs. The down side is, it makes me bond with my cars and I end up never selling them. I now own 15... I have to say that I also love your attitude. I spent many years working as a tech and manged shops as well as owning my own shop. My attitude towards putting a car together is like yours: everything has to fit, everything has to snap in place, if there was a screw or cable tie there OEM it has to go back that way. Not that I am against modifying. Quite the opposite, all my cars are modified in some form. But it needs to look and function like it came from the factory. Kudos!
The end was the best when you said there were a LOT of mods you could do but, you have matured to realize that driving a stock car is the best. I was 17 years old and a senior in high school when I got a 1969 Corvette t-top, auto, A/C, and every other option that was available (it was 1974 and it was only 5 years old- I didn't realize what I had). I was always tinkering with it and updating it instead of just driving it and doing maintenance. I now have a stock car that I simply enjoy driving. I did get all of the Weathertech items for it that I could but, it is so nice to just getting in, starting it, and simply driving off knowing you will get there. So- just enjoy the Porsche and all of your other cars!
Great to see you have this one “done!” Can not say the new wheels look good - the originals looked better, but if you like it that way - why not! Congratulations!
Congrats Eric, I hope it puts a smile on your face every time you drive it! I know my Pastel yellow 986 does. You have the best damn channel on you tube. Thanks for the education and entertainment. Big fan!
Also, this car is pretty rare! It’s an early build (12/97-8-98), so it has a few interior specific things to that production group (one of about 3500), and it has amber tail lights. These early build cars are thought of to be the best 996’s. Hand built with the last 993’s. Also that color is awesome!
Dude. I love your channel. The engine work is my go to for chill eves but have to say I totally loved this build. Congrats man. You're inspiring people to go out and wrench. Enjoy the ride and put many miles on it.
Reminds me of a German Ford I once owned where the emergency brake cable(2) were about 100 ft long with pulleys and levers that went all over the place. Great in the rust belt.
Well worth the big smile on your face going through the gears. I just replaced the hoses and clamps with factory parts on my old FJ 40 and now will stop complaining, thanks.
You can just tell Eric has that "hmm, it actually works" look 36:37-36:38. Eric, if you see this, I have still have a set of stock LT1 heads I'll give you if you still need them for your C4. Swapped them out for a set of AFR heads off a 97 Trans am in 2001ish. I don't want them and have held onto them for 20+ years now, time to go to a better home.
Your smile at the 38:05 was so satisfying! I agree with you...the older I get, i just want things working fine! I loved this video...and that flat6 sound!!
Eric, good job with the Porsche! You are more of a purist rather than a modder. I prefer the purity of originality over slapping on go fast bits. Congrats on finishing it as far as driveability Derek
This one looks like an absolute thrill to drive. Your face says it all on the in-car camera. Thanks for taking us along on the first drive! Excited to see what’s next
Finally a normal man. Bravo! I applaud your approach. There are enough 'petrolheads' here on UA-cam that all they want is "1k hp to the wheel" [in a country that has hw speeds limited to 55-75mph and city 25-35mph - (what a joke)]. Enjoy the drive.
I don't know when Porsche went to the push together hose fitment system (wire bail), but they seem to be a bit easier to work with to me. Nice 911 you got there and time to enjoy it.
Nice to see a project come together. Cosmetically the only noticeable thing it needs is a good cut and buff to make the paint pop. I am only surprised that you didnt use a constant pressure clamp on your hoses but opted for worm clamps. Good job overall and hope you continue to enjoy driving it.
It's always nice to get to the point of a project where it's drivable. It definitely breathes new life into the enthusiasm you have for it. That being said, I spent two long days helping my Nephew swap out the suspension on his '08 Volkswagen Golf R32. The entire first day was almost entirely spent on changing the front sway bar. The whole front suspension needs to be essentially dismantled to get it out. The best part was the aftermarket bar he bought to replace it didn't fit. As soon as the stocker was on the ground next to the replacement, it was very apparent that it wasn't going to fit, so we had to do all that work in reverse to re-install the stock sway bar. By comparison, the front struts and rear springs and shocks took maybe half a day. I now own a set of triple square bits I'll probably never use again, as well as the bit to spread the front knuckle to get the strut out. So, between that experience and watching your experience with fine german engineering has pretty much cemented the idea that I'd rather walk than own a german car. Glad it's back together, though!
Well look at this from a different perspective. You are going to have the best smelling Porsche in your state. If the darn guy did his job correctly you wouldn't be in this situation. TMP from N.J.
fantastic upload, Eric!! thank you. your channel is always interesting to me. I worked on cars for a long time until an untimely accident disabled me. keep up the great content. stay healthy and safe.
The fruits of your labor was all worth it. Great job on the car. I have a 2001 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet and I absolutely love it. Enjoy the ride. Happy Motoring!
So happy to see you torquing those lug nuts. Nobody does that anymore and it's some important. There's no such thing as a truly "calibrated" impact wrench. Definitely a mark of a professional mechanic. Thanks for the great videos.
I have a C4S, love banging it through the gears. I left an E46 M3 behind, don't miss it after getting the 996. The 996 is a better performing car in every way, and yes its great stock. My only mod is factory ROW M030 springs and Koni's. Bad repairs are terrible to discover, and gratifying to get straightened out.
Great video. i especially liked how you enjoyed driving the car at the end. After wanting to drive a 911 my whole life (I'm 72) I finally got to rent a 996 through Turo and drove it for a whole day. I wasn't particularly interested in how much power it had. I don't think I ever went above 4000 rpm. I just wanted to experience the steering weight and feedback and the handling. Believe me, I was not disappointed. I never drive a car that felt so planted to the pavement. It felt like you could not break that car loose even if you wanted to. I hope you really enjoy yours.
I had mine for 11 years. It did supermarket shopping, round town and the school run every day. Remember - it’s faster than any car limited to less than 175 mph. The performance is amazing and will not be improved by almost any modification except “ making like new”. God I miss the old girl.
I have a 2006 mazda6 end thoroughly enjoy all the work the engineers put into the smoothness of the ride and engine. Even the way the shifting works. It looks like your car is like that to you 😊
As someone who has never understood the hate about the "runny egg" lights, if/when I buy a 996 I'd put decals on the bumper that look like yolks running down :)
That kept them REALLY cheap for years. I️ bought one 6 years ago with 19k miles for a relative song. They drive better than 993’s, the air and heat work really well, and they feel like tanks.
As a recovering German car guy myself, and ASE master tech... try out using spring clamps on all your cooking system hoses. You have plenty of free ones around. I've come to believe they are far superior to worm clamps long term. Gotta love that there are at least 12 radiator hoses......
Eric- that wire that was added in place of the ground to the running light is probably tied into the front blinkers, that way the running light flashes as well. Great job!
Dude, you're driving a dream to many guys around the world! It's pleasant seeing you working on these cars and the passion you have with that! Greetings from Brazil!
When that clip bonked you in the face; 😆pure video gold! Don't sweat it Eric, it's happened to all of us. I agree with you; cars worth owning are best left the way they were built. Congrats on your new/old runner!
The 997 wheels were nice but the Daytona's look amazing I think it is a great choice!! So glad you can finally enjoy the Porsche you deserve it!! Can only imagine the awesome projects to come if the channel keeps growing!!!
Eric, major congratulations on a great video series on your 996. Additionally Major Congratulations on everything you did on this car. There are few things in life more pleasurable than driving a sorted out 911. Enjoy it. You deserve it.
that car is to much work for me, its like working on a jet . no room to work. god bless you eric , you have a lot of drive you never give up and do a fantastic job.

The only thing that makes them really much nicer is slightly lowering (to M030 RW spec), aeroskirts, add grill after the bumper to avoid much leaves in it, bulletproof the M96 engine, renew some of the arms. But most importantly, enjoy the car. It's a nice early one.
Good rule to live by, never assume anything when replacing parts. I agree that having the marker lights flash with the signals is a good idea but previous job was less than stellar, good job doing it the right way and keep up the great work.
Great Video! Holmann Motors looks like a wash this coming Saturday. Bring it out June 11th for the European Car show at Mini of St. Louis. Hey Eric, I have 3 German "projects".... I totally agree they are projects, but I also have 2 Ford "projects". Now you know why I watch and enjoy your videos... birds of a feather.... thanks for another great video!
The Porsche versus the BMW is apples and oranges. Two completely different cars. Both really great at what they do. You're darn right on not modding it. Just enjoy it. Heaven help you if you find a decent air-cooled one, though. Even better sound. Harder to drive, but maybe even more rewarding?
Way to go!!!! It’s hard to get a new so when I work on most things I work on l, I talk to myself about the crap I’m working on. Well it seems ur talk is interesting enough that other ppl such as I think it’s great. My talk…… well it’s not near as interesting as ur talk. I bow to u sir u crack me up
The bumper covers on the 986/996 cars is super easy to remove, and should be done as part of the annual maintenance to clean out the debris in front of the radiators
Id be happy as a pig in shit to walk out and see it in my garage too... Congratulations and i look forward to learning what "oh crap" is and how ur gonna tackle it. Until next time!

Should of seen what he did to my car

Bro you deserve that sweet little ride :)
If you don't fix that wire you won't sleep well at night. You will always know that it is there. 😄
I knew you couldn't resist. Really great job!
Perfection isn't an ethereal fact for us humans it really means doing your best. So far so much better Eric❤🌈🕊🔯⚡🗯🍸cheers.
You are supposed to leave one thing broken on your car because as soon as you fix that something else will break
Draining the coolant reminded me of that scene from Austin Powers.
Evacuation compl... Evacuation compl... com... com... com... Evacuation compl....
It was worth watching all your work for that smile on your face when you stretched out second gear for the first time. Enjoy every drive.

Eric, congrats on finishing the Porsche project. Just enjoy driving it for a while, you have earned it.
The thing i like from your channel is ,been able to see the struggle and pain is the mechanical world
Very nicely done. You have reached a point of satisfaction; that is a personal milestone in maturity.
Reminds me of a German Ford I once owned where the emergency brake cable(2) were about 100 ft long with pulleys and levers that went all over the place. Great in the rust belt.

Awesome laugh Eric when you were launching through the gears with the Porsche. Great times ahead for you.

Cheers to a nice, original looking car. Well done!
Your smile of satisfaction is like putting on your Hi-Beams. Perfect choice for the wheels too. Congrats!
I don't know when Porsche went to the push together hose fitment system (wire bail), but they seem to be a bit easier to work with to me. Nice 911 you got there and time to enjoy it.
Wow! As a non-mechanic with my 17 year old 997, I am in awe of your willingness to dive into all of that.
Nice to see a project come together. Cosmetically the only noticeable thing it needs is a good cut and buff to make the paint pop. I am only surprised that you didnt use a constant pressure clamp on your hoses but opted for worm clamps. Good job overall and hope you continue to enjoy driving it.
Ahhh. Finally rowing through the gears. Love that feeling after fixing my E39 540. Well done!
That smile on your face when you pushed it! - Love it!!!
Good for you... Finally got it done. Finding the time is the real problem for working on projects.
It's always nice to get to the point of a project where it's drivable. It definitely breathes new life into the enthusiasm you have for it.

I wish I could like this video more than once. The ending was the best!!
Nice ride man! Enjoy!
Well look at this from a different perspective. You are going to have the best smelling Porsche in your state. If the darn guy did his job correctly you wouldn't be in this situation. TMP from N.J.
This was a great series to watch. Great advise on how to work on a project that you don't have all the history on. Great job and enjoy!
fantastic upload, Eric!!
thank you. your channel is always interesting to me. I worked on cars for a long time until an untimely accident disabled me. keep up the great content.

No, thank you!
Clearly a fan of Ed China saying things like spanner, and sorted. Love it.

Yeah. What a great ride. I wish I had the time and tools...and money.
GREAT OUTCOME! Nice car and it’s perfect as it sits! 👌🏾🔥😎
As someone who has never understood the hate about the "runny egg" lights, if/when I buy a 996 I'd put decals on the bumper that look like yolks running down :)

Gotta love that there are at least 12 radiator hoses......
I would recommend constant tension hose clamps. Worm clamps don't expand and contract with deatroys the hose prematurely.
Eric- that wire that was added in place of the ground to the running light is probably tied into the front blinkers, that way the running light flashes as well. Great job!
I owned a turbo 911. Triple digits too fast. Sold for a base 911 convertible with 6 speed. So much fun with slower car.
Thank you very much for sharing....you may find problems with some vehicles, but your videos are getting better and better.
You having fun after all the work you have done is great to see.
I have a Porsche 968. She is my DD, I love driving her. Project, yes, enjoyment, most definitely 😊
It's amazing how much work we do so we don't have to do any work. Congrats, a well earned and deserved victory.
Because of a wire the horse was lost. But the wire! Love the smile
The car put a smile on your face....it's a keeper.
I enjoyed the series now you enjoy your efforts . Great series.
I do a lot of project cars. Can’t tell you how much I enjoy un-fixing someone else’s crappy work.
Happy this repair is over and you can enjoy it! That's an awesome car now!
Congrats Eric - she's a beauty and sounds great
More than 1 bar of oil pressure is always good. That Canary flies, and sounds quite good too.
I love all the jokes, the videos, and everything I learn. I'll catch YOU on the next one. Can't wait man. Thanks
That wry smile says it all. Nice work.
The 997 wheels were nice but the Daytona's look amazing I think it is a great choice!! So glad you can finally enjoy the Porsche you deserve it!! Can only imagine the awesome projects to come if the channel keeps growing!!!
It sounds so good... Almost like a J series 😇 congratulations my friend. You have taught us all plenty, thank you for that
Eric, major congratulations on a great video series on your 996. Additionally Major Congratulations on everything you did on this car.
There are few things in life more pleasurable than driving a sorted out 911. Enjoy it. You deserve it.
Well done Eric…love the look of the new wheels!
Such a good looking and sounding car, I would keep it stock too, just enjoy driving to work and back, and then ride around the town at weekends
that car is to much work for me, its like working on a jet . no room to work. god bless you eric , you have a lot of drive you never give up and do a fantastic job.
Yep, his SEG gets bigger as the revs get higher, lol.
Congrats on a working Porsche! Drive the hell out of it!
It was joyous to see (and hear!) this thing running through the gears. I've also warmed up to the styling of the 996 as of late. Yours is a pretty sweet looking ride!
I like everything about the 996 besides the headlights and i think thats a common sentiment, every other 911 having the round headlights just makes this one stick out in a bad way in my opinion
Well done! glad to see it back on the road. I'd keep the amber headlights and just refinish and clear them. They are unique to the first year cars.
The only thing that makes them really much nicer is slightly lowering (to M030 RW spec), aeroskirts, add grill after the bumper to avoid much leaves in it, bulletproof the M96 engine, renew some of the arms. But most importantly, enjoy the car. It's a nice early one.
It's nice to see young Adam Sandler enjoying a 996.
He even said h2o in the video, just didn't call it high quality h2o
Good rule to live by, never assume anything when replacing parts. I agree that having the marker lights flash with the signals is a good idea but previous job was less than stellar, good job doing it the right way and keep up the great work.
Great Video! Holmann Motors looks like a wash this coming Saturday. Bring it out June 11th for the European Car show at Mini of St. Louis. I remember the moment at Fast Lane standing next to you with My longtime friend Nick, and someone asked, "Who works on your Lotus. I DO." hehe Keep up the great content!!!
Honestly loved the drive at the end, like many others have commented. Just looked awesome, you were enjoying the car after a lot of hard work.
That's awesome! Enjoy the ride, dude!
Nice job buddy, when i was younger my dad have a 996 c-4 and i like this car so much, now im working on my Golf R mk6. Like turbo car to...
The smile was visceral and often unanticipated. Kinda reminds me of an old movie line "the only thing a man really loves is his car".
Good job repairing this car that was screwed up by the previous mechanic. Even work by dealers is sub par.
Hey Eric, I have 3 German "projects".... I totally agree they are projects, but I also have 2 Ford "projects". Now you know why I watch and enjoy your videos... birds of a feather.... thanks for another great video!
