Even though i don't understand what she is singing about, that power and sorrow in her voice makes me think of what she s begging or pleading for; and surprisingly the word "ask" means love in Turkish :) What she did with her soft, even i want to say "with her giving up voice", at the end of the song was almost theatrical in my opinion. I mean i felt like she was giving up on love she was singing about. That was so emotional if i understand it correctly. Made my eyes wet and gave me goosebumps maybe i am too emotional i dunno man but those were what i felt about the song. This must be how music can be universal when you use it exceptionally. And Scott, my man thanks again for this experience. It was definetely different and felt so good, thank you
I have watched more than 15 different reaction videos to this song of Sertab..This was not only the longest one but also informative one as you've explained in details nicely. Congragulations body !! 👏👏
Both Sebnem Ferah and Sertab Erener were the students and the back vocal of Sezen Aksu. The Real Queen is still Sezen Aksu but she is very old now. Sebnem Ferah-Istanbul Concert 2007 is the top of her career. And also Sertab Erener sang Sebnem's song "Yagmurlar". And a one song is very special for all three of them "Sezen Aksu, Sebnem Ferah and Sertab Erener". The name of the song is "Masum Değiliz". If you examine and analyze the interpretations of Masum Degiliz of all three singers in one video, your analysis may be a first on platforms such as UA-cam, and you will also have prepared a very special video for your Turkish audience.

Dude, your analysis is very good, Turkish singers I would love you to continue to react. Mor ve ötesi- Bir derdim var would you react to the symphonic piece?
Thank you for the detailed review. Turkish is an agglutinative language. Therefore, syllables are added to the end of words and each syllable changes the direction of the word surprisingly. Therefore, she keeps the first letter of the syllable and the words affect and surprise the listener more. Example : Dünya (world) Dünyama(to my world)
Best explanations i've ever seen! Thanks for separating all the techniques and small details into their own topic and explaining them clearly, it really helps. Hoping for more Turkish artists, you might like Mor ve Ötesi, Turkey shines with their rock bands and singers!

The same way that some people were not born to be connoisseurs of food and drink, some people just have no feel for all music. Their are parts of this performance that I just can't warm up to. Just like people who will rave about a food dish with all sorts of spices and textures in the foods they eat I am not one them. There is just something about her voice that doesn't sit right in my brain. I hear her technique, and control and how puts things together but it's not for me. So I am sorry but it's not you , it's me.
Hey David. I recently read a book called "This is what it sounds like" by Susan Rogers and Ogi Ogas. And they said that music is so intimate and personal that we all have different listner profiles. We all live on different musical streets. So it's definitely okay that Sertab didn't match your sweet spot. If you were to put heavy metal music in front of me, that wouldn't be my first choice because I grew up listening to pop, soul, blues and RnB. It also did take a few years for me to become familiar with and enjoy jazz music, and also the classical sounds of opera and music theatre. I also found the rock vocals quite unpleasant when I was younger and I found myself resistant to them all at first. But now I really respect those genres and the artists who sing them because to master those sounds and the song genre conventions is a very hard thing to accomplish! I guess it does take time, mental effort and energy to sit with different/new artists and let their voice and artistry sink in right? Especially on Spotify, I find myself scrolling through new artists to search for sentimental ballads only because they feel like home to me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts David. I'm sure many people feel the same too because I definitely did and sometimes, still do :)
