- This five-part video series enriches the reparations debate and, most importantly, provides enlightenment on why reparations are a necessary tool to achieve equity. The series explores how the perpetual influence of chattel slavery - disparities in education, health, wealth, and more - impacts the lives of Black people in California. It will delve into the history of the reparations movement in America, while also exploring a part of California history that is rarely discussed: the hostility toward Black settlements, and how thriving Black communities were systematically torn apart and turned into ghost towns. KQED’s viewers will be introduced to the nine-member task force and, as part of the lead-up to the release of the task force’s landmark final report this summer, viewers will meet people who have been digging for reparations for decades.

Meet the members of California’s historic reparations task force and learn about what they’ve uncovered about slavery and its effects in California through their research in the second episode of our series: ua-cam.com/video/TT_KXUR-zls/v-deo.html
The key problem is the US government owes us African Americans Reparations & not individual states bc some didn't even have legal slavery such as the state of California for example.
Thomas sowell I like his take on slavery
Giving money to people who were never slaves paid by people who never owned slaves? Wont happen.
It's ok let it not happen so unrepentant America can keep falling off & being under the judgment of God. Until he has fully carried out his judgment upon her. Seeing as Reparations is simply a part of the proper biblical atonement making process. You would think such a thing would be known. Among folks within America or a country that was literally supposedly founded upon the Bible. Yet ironically doesn't understand what Reparations is or You Reap what you Sow. Once again it's ok let unrepentant America be broken all the way down to her rooted in Systematic racism foundational core.
Thank God it won't
Mexicans get DACA and free money
Wait a minute. Give this some thought.
I'd say make the Democrats pay for the preparations .
Would you be saying that if your forefathers was mistreated by white people how about a black people mistreating white people would you like that?
Time to buy stock in nike and dodge. Jordans and hellcats bout to be moving
How will this get funded?
@@CoolhandLukeSkywalkr , but gdp is the nation's economic health..not sure what you mean
@RacerX1971 The reparations would come from federal and state government. Congress would have to budget for it and fund it, or else it wouldn't happen.
The mystery is your explanation..look up meaning of GDP.
@@CoolhandLukeSkywalkr , don't make sense, if cities are thinking of approving why get the funds from State or Federal as you stated. 🤔
@@RacerX1971How does the US government pay money to Native America's or give money to the country Israel? This is how the government & not individual states should pay Reparations to African Americans. It's not hard to figure out or rocket science
These people aren't ashamed of themselves?😮
No.
LMFAO you're not gonna get a single dime
Ur scared of what we will do with it. Go ahead and deny it
@@JustRed916 tell us what Rodney king did with his millions? Another history lesson you will most definitely ignore.
@@chuckrambo4401 and what did Lebron James do with his?
@@JustRed916 crack Cadillacs and chicken probably where most would go,then probably buy some malt liquor
@Ben Dover that's what yall do 🤷🏾♂️
With the effort to scrub the past clean in every way, we'll see Jesus before any kind of reparations.
Welfare and affirmative action are sorts of reparations. African Americans should get a deal to closer to the native American deal, but they got screwed and the native Americans get the red carpet for some reason, free housing, casinos, exclusive laws for their own, anything they want.
It's almost like you should get over it and move on
Not that you're owed anything anyway
I agree the Democrats should continue to pay welfare and affirmative action as part of reparations.
Native Americans had land so that was the argument in courts.
Black mans land is in Africa..
Why should the US government give native American land the the black man ¿?
If anything keep giving the land to the native Americans .
And while we're at it. Let Texas be their own country.
And give California back to Mexico. Since they don't want to be anything and everything at the same time over there.
You know seems that this will soon get out of hand.
I'd take " No taxes for all documented black people (Federal or state level before a certain date) are eligible 🤷.......
No
#gotreparations21
I neather support or oppose it
Yep you're from California.
So excited to watch this series.
What series is going on if I might ask?
LOL gibs me
Powerful and eager to follow this ongoing series.
I'll give reparations when the 13% stop committing all the violent crime...(can you imagine the entitlement when you cause 60% of the misery and expect to be paid for it?)
What series can I ask?
@@aishabintabubakr4944 we do not commit 60% of crime we put up half the murders and its usually against each other and all of it can be traced back too the federal Government which is why we're entitled to reparations, Everything changed when Ronald Reagan sold metric tons of cocaine too us the effects of which we're still recovering from. And that's before getting into how Nixon used redlining to create defacto segregation which ultimately defunded majority black schools, or how about when the Federal and local governments built the interstate high ways over black homes and forced them to the dirtiest most impoverished toxic part of every city?
@@mateohodge6998
Nope.
It's cultural
@@aishabintabubakr4944 Hmm it's almost as if we had to.make our own culture because we weren't accepted in the mainstream Hmmm🤔 it's almost as if we have a culture built out of poverty and despair because of the hundreds of years of forced poverty and despair 🤔
This country, the USA needs to make reparations to black people. I look forward to seeing more in this series.
ADOS, FBA not Black peeople!
Anyone who advocates reparations needs to articulate exactly what objective method is to be used to determine what each person owes and to whom. Furthermore, this method needs to be justified in moral terms. Without that no coherent national policy can be decided or voted upon. However, if you ask this question to anyone who advocates reparations you will get squirming, evasions, and no answer because there is no answer. Advocates of reparations are intellectually dishonest.
Nobody should argue reparations period
Each person doesn't owe, the GOVERNMENT which enforced the discriminate AFTER slavery owe reparations
If you tell the truth UA-cam will delete your comment from this site !
Yes please take my tax dollars to buy nice shoes
You give it gladly to Mexicans DACA, free housing, free college, free money, free jobs
I have a great idea. Let’s take money from people who had nothing to do with slavery and hope that unites the people 😂
I have a better idea. Actually listen to the facts of the video that detailed the *current* and *existing* inequities taking place rather than force a strawman argument in the comments 🙃
Literally everything has to do with slavery. This country was built off of African slavery and native American genocide. So yeah, that straw man you got their falls pretty flat.
@@trent_kingwe should have picked our own cotton
Let me drop a lot of knowledge on whomever made this. Fist off when Spain owned all of what was West of the Louisiana purchase IT WAS ILLEGAL TO BE BLACK IN CALIFORNIA PUNISHABLE BY DEATH. .. This law was way before California was apart of America. So this reparations that all Black Americans want is bull.
I ADVOCATE TO GIVE THE LAND BACK TO MEXICO AND MEXICANS. NO ONE BUT MEXICAN !!! VIVA MEXICO
Interesting, where do you think the Mexicans got it from? America was TOO kind, Native Americans got the best deal in history
Mexicans get DACA,sanctuary cities and free money and free housing
Hold up now, calm down. Let's not make hasty decisions . Tejas sounds good. If you're not born in todays Mexico , then they just see you as another brown gringo. If you were born in Mexico then I do understand. If you're from California SMH good luck.
They weren't slaves
Oh, housing fund. Amount TBD.....
The Caning of Charles Sumner, or the Brooks-Sumner Affair, occurred on May 22, 1856, in the United States Senate chamber, when Representative Preston Brooks, a pro-slavery Democrat from South Carolina, used a walking cane to attack Senator Charles Sumner, an abolitionist Republican from Massachusetts. The attack was in retaliation for a speech given by Sumner two days earlier in which he fiercely criticized slaveholders, including pro-slavery South Carolina Senator Andrew Butler, a relative of Brooks. The beating nearly killed Sumner and contributed significantly to the country's polarization over the issue of slavery. It has been considered symbolic of the "breakdown of reasoned discourse"[1] and the use of violence that eventually led to the Civil War.
What followed was the creation of the Republican Party for the sole reason of fighting slavery. The Civil war where Thousands and Thousands of white men died fighting to free the slaves. Which they did. Just thought I’d expand on your limited History lesson.
Those psychopaths owe a lot more peoples and people groups too
Africa would hoard its own people into cages and then sell. Maybe try to get reparations from Africa or Europe.
Yes California's should pay reparations. All for it.
I’m really looking forward to the rest of this series and hearing the voices of not only descendants of enslaved people in this country, but of people, who’ve studied the effects of slavery in the US.
As an Asian American, I strongly feel reparations are due. All African Americans with ancestors that were slaves should get paid, and all the land stolen from them returned. Track all the families who had ancestors who owned slaves pay for it, start with the Bushes, Clintons etc... all their fortunes were made using black slaves.
What complete nonsense. The Africans enslaved other tribes and sold them to Arabs and Americans. If anyone need pay reparations it's those long dead warlord and chieftains of Africa.
And the descendants of the enslaved today have it much better in America than their African counterparts who's great x7 grandparents who were not sold to American slavers. I.e an African in Mali today wants to live in the USA rather than African Americans wishing to live in Mali.
Reparations are a nonsense concept designed to simply blame the nearest white person
For all that apposes reparation will be on the wrong side of history. The fact that all civil right in this country is founded on the Afro American fight for justice and for every immigrant in the United States today should be in support due to
Afro Americans are the ones that had opened the door for them. The act of reparation will ring around the world and fight for justice for all but it will start with Afro American leading the charge. God has bless us with this task.
I'll pay reparations only after you start talking about your skin color
Nope...won't happen.
You need a therapist if you hate yourself. You'll still complain about racism even with your check.
The best solution is paying white people reparations for dealing with you, helping you, and freeing you
So true all the land will be given back to the native Americans. And even you will have to pay rent to them.
Do you think giving a guy money when he hasn't had much is going to help?
Giving him nothing is better since he caused his own demise
@@aishabintabubakr4944 Yes by being born black in the ghetto he set himself up too fail
If you give poor people money they spend it usually on things they need
Yes. It literally will
By your statement we should get rid of the various lotteries and also remove inheritance because giving people money doesn't help them.
