  • Trim off the multilingual borders, ink the edges and look what is revealed: COLOUR! COLOR! However you spell it, the shades and hues of Tarot of the Magical Forest invite another dimension to reading with these cards.
Whether creator/artist Leo Tang intended colour to play a part in reading Tarot of the Magical Forest or not, for me it's a path towards the subtle art of reading cards.
Grab a pot of tea (this is a long video) and join me for a journey through the rainbow of colours in Tarot of the Magical Forest.
In the video I also made a few comments about traditional RWS symbology. For a deck that is whimsical in some regards, I wonder why the creator stuck so closely to "old school" cards. It seems like a few of the cards may have been done in haste to complete the project. The slightly lop-sided inverted pentagram in The Devil card is one example that comes to mind - that card in general actually.
The original deck was published in Taiwan in 2005, then republished by Lo Scarabeo in 2008.

I recently trimmed my Magical Forest tarot and the colours absolutely do jump out. I was happy to stumble on this video, thank you for taking so much time over this.
When you pulled the Chariot at the end it really focused me on thinking more about colour and direction. So many cards in this deck have colours predominantly balanced top to bottom, a few are more about left to right, or diagonal like the Chariot brings in. Something I'll be thinking about more.

This was really interesting to me. Although I'm famililar with classical (and magical) color representations, I'm not hugely familiar with chakras, but your explanation really gave me a full insight into what you're talking about where the colors are concerned. I would be really interested on a follow up to this video in a few months after you've had some time to work with the deck and really become familiar with how it feels in use.

Thank you and yes I will. I don't always analyze a deck so carefully before I start using it, but there was something about this deck that called for a closer look.

Such an interesting take on this deck. Color is really important to sparking my intuition and my bonding with a deck, but I’ve never worked with it formally either from an art perspective or from chakras etc. This video inspired me to do some more reading on color symbology!

I’ll also say, since I haven’t done any chakra work, the colors are more about emotions to me. So the yellows are hopeful, the purples can be moody, the blacks with pink are about danger or fear. It seems like the artist didn’t set out to take one color through each suit but maybe used color to evoke the main emotion they saw in each card? Just thinking out loud. 😊

Beautiful! And that is what being a great reader is about . . . it's just allowing the reading to come forth. There's so much to draw on AND also just to be in the flow of the reading without constantly checking in with "what you have learned".

I've never been particularly drawn to this deck but my 7 year old says this deck and the wild unknown are the only two good tarot decks. 😆😆😆
