This month’s edition of Carhartt WIP Radio. welcomes TraTraTrax, an independent record label launched in Medellín, Colombia, by founders Nyksan, DJ Lomalinda and Verraco. It was established in 2020, with the trio’s intentions of fusing Latin American rhythms like dembow, guaracha, cumbia, and baile funk, with electronic club music, such as techno, bass and breaks.
Since launching, the platform has signed Ecuadorian artist Nicola Cruz, Peruvian duo Dengue Dengue Dengue, and Miami-based producer Nick Léon. The label put out its 10th and biggest release yet in November 2022, titled “no pare, sigue sigue,” - a 16 track compilation featuring Nick León & Luca Durán, Bitter Babe, Loris, Safety Trance (aka Cardopusher) and many more.
For this episode of Carhartt WIP Radio, TraTraTrax’s founding members created a mix spanning the outer edges of reggaeton, broken techno, perreo, and tribal prog.
As ever, the mix is accompanied by an interview with the show’s hosts, who discuss the importance of Columbia in the label’s history, the onomatopoeic origins of its name, and the contemplative direction that they plan on taking with TraTraTrax in the future.
