- In part 1 of this interview Adrian Vandenberg talks to Kylie about how he started working with David Coverdale and Whitesnake, his injury which lead to Steve Vai taking over, recording at Jimmy Page's studio and more.

Adrian. Is truly a phenomenal guitar player,. His stent in whitesnake was one thing but his actual band Vandenberg was phenomenal

Found your channel because of the Myles kennedy interview, and seeing this interview made me subscribe. Nice video's!
So Adrian already recorded all rhythm guitars for Slip Of The Tongue.. Didn't know that. A pity these recordings were never used!
Hearing him talk about Steve Vai's part on the record he was too injured for to finish himself, It's painfully obvious - and understandably so - that he still feels some resentment for not having been able to exercise any control over the songs he wrote (and which were kind of finished?) with a specific (band) sound in mind...
only to have Steve Vai being allowed (well paid 1 million dollars for it really) to stay at his home and sent in some idiosyncratic guitar parts and touch ups for a record that consequentially was a deviation of how it was conceived initially.
I hope Vandenberg understands that it's not necessarily Vai's fault .. (btw I'm a great admirer of Vai's output) so I wonder why Coverdale didn't step up to safeguard Vandenberg's artistic direction and songwriting sensibilities a bit more. Did Adje discuss this with David at the time?
I remember a clip on youtube a long time ago, of some footage during rehearsals for a Whitesnake tour and Steve is seen/heard calling the shots, telling everyone how things are going to go .. and Adrian -while walking away - is kind of mocking him saying "ok mussolini"...(Vai is of Italian descent) I thought it was funny but can't find the footage anymore...
