They should do MORE homage to Husker Du! It is undeniable that Husker Du kicked down the door that Green Day walked through into greatness. I'd love more roots punk from them. We need it.
Green Day gets so much shit but one positive thing about them is that they have always gone above and beyond to try and help other bands get more recognition. Screeching Weasel, Pansy Division, Crimpshrine, Husker Du, and all the Lookout! bands just to name a few. Green Day turned me on to a lot of really good music.
agreed, most of my taste in music stems from green day. i only listened to rancid, bad religion, nofx, ratm, the adolescents, the interupters, bad cop/bad cop, the lillingtons ect because i first listened to green day.
I’ve noticed that the punk music community, for being a clique dedicated to being rebels and rejecting what’s considered mainstream, seem to have a lot of rules and regulations on what is considered “true punk”
The Pixies and Sonic Youth had more mainstream success. Husker Du don't really seem to enjoy the same legacy by millennials and few people my age seem to have heard of them, except for those who are really into punk.
Way to represent one of the great bands in Husku Du. If it were up to some of you guys, bands wouldn't acknowdlge their influences. Not that hard to understand really Green Day paying their respects. Nice work!
glad to see them paying respect to such an important band. I hope husker du never gets forgotten, as their music essentially changed the trajectory of alternative music, whether people consciously realized it or not.
I was at one of the first GD shows at Egg Plants house. After the show I went up to Mike, who I didn't really know but we were both Benicia people, and said "You are incredible...you sound like Husker Du". Mike said thank you and I think I only spoke with him, just a comment, outside Gilman, one more time. I am from Mpls I had seen Husker Du many times and many Gilman bands including Crimpshrine, Op Ivy, Isocracy, and others. Only GD that day was like Husker Du.
all these people shittalking this cover as if its supposed to be better than Husker du this is a nod of respect to their roots not a fucking attempt to steal the song from Husker Du and make people see them as superior.
I was at the last Op Ivy Show...one of the First GD shows at Eggplants house and after GD played I commented to Mike that I thought they sounded like Husker Du... he said thanks...thanks alot.
Mason Upton thanks mate i dont have a problem with them at all just the old stuff is what got me into them :) ...there's always someone looking for an argument on here isn't there lol
Not a huge green day fan but you know what, they do this cover perfectly. And I love the original. Fast (faster than the original), raw and in your face, how punk should be. Hell, Rock as it should be.
Wow! My kids love Green Day for their American Idiot and onwards phase but I had no Idea they would do such GREAT version of this song. Husker Du made a classic album with Candy Apple Grey but this is a stand out track on that album.. Thanks for posting. Great song and done really, really well.
You can really see the direct line from Husker Du's signature sound to Green Day's . The influence is strong. Mike Dirnt kills it on Greg Norton's bass lines.
Never knew they covered this, one of my favs from Husker Du coming from my favorite sellouts, (I mean that with the utmost appreciation in my melancholy brain, btw) the only mainstreamers I love, fuck yeah Green Day
Thanks for posting! Kick-ass cover of a much-revered band here in Mpls....Saw this song live several times and Green Day, (who, honestly, I never really liked, but to each his own) does a great job of it...I know for a fact that Bob Mould, Grant Hart and Greg Norton would approve. The Huskers helped punk and helped put Mpls on the map, and if Green Day exposed young ones to it, all the better.
As an old-schooler, I give these young bucks full credit for a perfectly respectable cover. Does it carry the emotional ferocity of the original? Nah. But good for them for giving it a shot and putting their own stamp on.
I like ALL of their stuff. A lot of people are like "Their older stuff is awesome, new stuff sucks". Makes it seem like you just don't want to accept any change from them. I think it's ALL really good, every album in it's own way. Y'know?
This is one of my favorite Husker Du songs that I've probably listened to over 1,000 times and this is an excellent cover. It fits well within Green Day's capabilities. Good choice, good job, good band to show respect to.
First tape I was gifted was Green Day’s dookie ...and it was blue played it up till 6th grade then my Walkman ate it ...wish they went back to their roots
Ive only seen that video once, the only time I heard the song. Husker Du are a tough band to find haha I wouldnt mind hearin more of their stuff though
Now that's how you do a cover ladies & gents! Mike's bass is INCREDIBLE here
Hey, Jon. Glad to see you here.
Do a review on forveverly
yes indeed. And RIP Grant Hart, his solo album from 1987 is well worth listening to
average.
Whoever let him get away with cranking his amp so high is an unsung hero
the bass is killer
Skizzo Frenetik That's Mike Dirnt for ya
Mike is my favorite bassist
it murdered the guitar, sounds like....
God dirnt it
I feel like there is no guitar at all!
Performances like these make me realize that Mike Dirnt is one of the most underrated bassists around
So - just think how underrated Grant Norton of the Hüskers was.
@@mitchberg8229 So underrated in fact that his name's actually Greg, think you mixed him and Grant Hart up
@@BraddicusfinchNot to mention his moustache, that stuff is exquisite
or that whoever was mixing this for tv does not like guitar.
You may wanna check out Greg Norton ! He makes great food too 😂
Not a huge Green Day fan, but i respect them for paying homage to Husker Du, fair play
+Anton paisley agreed, they were heavily inspired by them, and actually do this song justice
Well said - and they did a good job on the cover too.
They should do MORE homage to Husker Du! It is undeniable that Husker Du kicked down the door that Green Day walked through into greatness. I'd love more roots punk from them. We need it.
why didn't Mike Dirnt chime in? Would have made this cover supreme.
You can really hear Husker Du's influence on their first two albums.
Gives me that Kerplunk feel!
Operation Ivy!!!
Absolutely.
agreed, most of my taste in music stems from green day. i only listened to rancid, bad religion, nofx, ratm, the adolescents, the interupters, bad cop/bad cop, the lillingtons ect because i first listened to green day.
Rusty Shackleford I agree. Billie Joe was always wearing shirts and patches of lesser known bands like the Queers and Pansy Division
Kyle Bowen no social distortion? You know at times they're more important than even bad religion
They are playin the music they love.. Doesn't get much more "punk" than that. Doing what you want.
Jc Proctor exactly!
Of course, but I honestly do think this song fits the vibe of Nimrod enough to not even seem unlike Green Day esq
I’ve noticed that the punk music community, for being a clique dedicated to being rebels and rejecting what’s considered mainstream, seem to have a lot of rules and regulations on what is considered “true punk”
I love this cover, as a bigger Husker Du fan than I am a Green Day fan, Billie Joe sings it with real feeling.
True
I've just gained a whole new respect for Green Day for covering the Huskers. Nice job on this one, guys! You did this tune some justice.
Listen to late 80s/90s Green Day. Plenty to love
Tre really gets into this one and captures Grant’s unique style of playing - down to the fills and other licks so perfectly
All that while singing, and doing it all so well!
A friend of mine says "Hüsker Dü were the velvet underground of the 80`s" - I think he is right!
More the Beatles of alternative rock... with a songwriting duo as prolific as Lennon-McCartney.
I"m not sure what this means.
A few replies to this, but clearly the correct answer is, Sonic Youth was the Velvet Underground of the 80s.
The Pixies and Sonic Youth had more mainstream success. Husker Du don't really seem to enjoy the same legacy by millennials and few people my age seem to have heard of them, except for those who are really into punk.
Actually, Bob Mould and Grant Hart wrote better material than Lou Reed did.
Husker du inspired them, this sound beautiful and nostalgic
I still prefer the original. but kudos for good taste in music. More bands should cover Husker Du for sure.
So many do & don’t know it 😆
Green Day rips this cover. I never get tired of this. Good job guys.
No, they don't.
Just disgusting
This is exactly how punk should be played, too fast, too loud, raw and in your face.
@@petarticinovic2710 this is actually a good cover you just mad a bigger band in green day are paying homage to another amazing band.
@@ogcodvideos6546 I've seen both of them live. One of them is "amazing" and it's not Green Day.
Way to represent one of the great bands in Husku Du.
If it were up to some of you guys, bands wouldn't acknowdlge their influences. Not that hard to understand really
Green Day paying their respects. Nice work!
Wow!!! I never knew they covered this! Much props for showin' love to the greatest punk band ever, gents!
greatest punk band ever, hahaaa!
I like Hüsker Dü but they are far from the greatest
The best by far
Downloading this on Limewire was one of the best days of my life. Watched it everyday for a long time.
I love Green Day!
glad to see them paying respect to such an important band. I hope husker du never gets forgotten, as their music essentially changed the trajectory of alternative music, whether people consciously realized it or not.
How I discovered Husker Du.
Same
I'm always skeptical when my favorite songs are covered, but goddamn Green Day............ you completely killed it
I was at one of the first GD shows at Egg Plants house. After the show I went up to Mike, who I didn't really know but we were both Benicia people, and said "You are incredible...you sound like Husker Du". Mike said thank you and I think I only spoke with him, just a comment, outside Gilman, one more time. 39 Smooth has huge Husker Du influence.
Very cool story
Green Day's covers are always awesome. Love this song, and this version of it in particular
all these people shittalking this cover as if its supposed to be better than Husker du
this is a nod of respect to their roots not a fucking attempt to steal the song from Husker Du and make people see them as superior.
Shut up and kiss me
kawaiidesu oy vey I know right! Husker Du laid the roots!
+kawaiidesu oy vey Husker du planted the seed within my bossom
Thank you!
Wow this is dope
A worthy cover.
Somebody count how many comments start off "Not a huge Green Day fan, but....."
i wish they had a studio version of this cover
there is!! in the warning single CD 1.- Warning 2.- Scumbag 3- Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely
Nahhhhh i love it being so raw
Actually, I think this is studio.
I think Billie Joe is lipsynching.
Love this cover, find myself going back to it several times per week
90s and early 2000s green day was it, chief
dat bass tho
I was at the last Op Ivy Show...one of the First GD shows at Eggplants house and after GD played I commented to Mike that I thought they sounded like Husker Du... he said thanks...thanks alot.
whoa how have I never seen this before??! nothing better than favs covering favs, this is rad as fuhk
i love the "old green day" :)
oh god, this was made in 2011,you have aproblem with new green day? then keep it to yourself
Cc Cro he didn't say he had a problem with new green day and it was made around 2000ish and posted in 2010
Cc Cro it was made in 1999.
Mason Upton
thanks mate i dont have a problem with them at all just the old stuff is what got me into them :) ...there's always someone looking for an argument on here isn't there lol
Surprised how good this is, not heard it before. Green Day have payed their dues and their success should not be held against them.
Best Rock Cover Ever
Not a huge green day fan but you know what, they do this cover perfectly. And I love the original. Fast (faster than the original), raw and in your face, how punk should be. Hell, Rock as it should be.
This is great!
They also made a great cover of "Corpus Christi" by the Avengers.
Hats off to Green Day for their respect/appreciation of good music.
Beautiful Cover
Wow! My kids love Green Day for their American Idiot and onwards phase but I had no Idea they would do such GREAT version of this song. Husker Du made a classic album with Candy Apple Grey but this is a stand out track on that album.. Thanks for posting. Great song and done really, really well.
Love the low definition from the 90s ❤
As a huge Husker Du fan, they did that song justice. Bass is kick ass.
Amazing cover Mike Dirnt really took the lead on this one...
I love this song and cover.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Stumbling upon this . After the kinda day I've had .
All I can say is thanks for posting . This shit snapped me out of it .
Great song and great cover. Gotta love green day and husker du
I just love this song
they are so good at covering songs, it sounds like the original but at the same time there's a spin and you can tell it's them.
They did an amazing job on this and stayed true to the original sound
MTV2 was something else
Love this song
I am not a big fan of Green Day but they do a really great job with this song
Brutal bass guitar sound👍👍👍
He sounds great! They all sound great
I am a huge fan of them
couldn't think of a more obvious influence on Billie Joe's singing voice than Bob Mould.
amazing
love this songggg ♥♥
I’m not a big Green Day fan. But nice to see them play homage to Hüsker Dü. Billy does have kick ass vocals though.
You can really see the direct line from Husker Du's signature sound to Green Day's . The influence is strong. Mike Dirnt kills it on Greg Norton's bass lines.
Don’t call me up cuz I’m not home....I am the disappearing boy.....
Nice

Great just great
Not the biggest Green Day fan, but they did a pretty good cover of the song. The rhythm section kicks ass.
Too much love.
Just discovered this. They did this tune some justice.
Hüsker Dü for life ✨
awesome cover.
Great cover of Husker Du!!!
Excellent cover!

I've never seen this before, it's so fucking awesome! Mike looks bad ass and his tone is bitchin!
Mike ALWAYS looks badass
Mike Dirnt is the only cool thing about green day

Lo increible de esta canción es lo atemporal que suena y green day capta la esencia de la misma como si la hubieran compuesto ellos.
cool song, cool cover!

Amen brother.
