Repent and trust in Jesus. He's the only way. We deserve Hell because we've sinned. Lied, lusted stolen, etc. But God sent his son to die on the cross and rise out of the grave. We can receive forgiveness from Jesus. Repent and put your trust in him.

I killed my first duck in about 1952, and my first goose in 1953. That will be 70 yrs ago in December. But I grew up further south in Texas and we have alkaline soil where mayhaws do not grow. My mother grew pomegranetes she grew from cuttings she got from relatives in Denton County, and she made jam that put all the mayhaw jelly I ever tasted to shame. I told that to the owners of Treesearch Farms in Houston, twenty years ago, and behold: pomegranates are now being sold on the Texas Middle and Upper Coasts.

I love Phil's teaching style. It reminds me of when I was a kid. My grandparents, or other old folks who were friends of the family would teach me their skills in the same way. It's funny though, because as a child I would think, how many times are they going to repeat those instructions to me? Looking back on it now, I am sure glad they did. Our attention spans as children are short, and so it takes repetition to make it stick in our memories.

I do it a little different. But same process. I put the mayhaws in the cheesecloth and boil them in the cheesecloth. Smash them during the boiling process. Then I put the cheesecloth in the strainer. Once it cools down a little, I start twisting the cheesecloth until all of the juice is gone. It’s not as big of a mess and I get more juice out of the fruit. I use this recipe for strawberry. Cherries, blueberries, blackberry and whatever fruit you want. I even did watermelon once.

Vacuumed a small tube of mayhaws this morning, have several gallon bags in freezer. Wife is starting the jelly making this morning. Lost my Mayhaw once to Katrina, but it put back out from the roots and the tree made it through Ida, and gave a good yield this year. I use a small sears shop vac with two lengths of hose and a 6’ section of plastic pipe to pick up everything under the tree.

Worked the garden and fruit trees and vines my whole childhood. My parents never bought vegetables or fruit from the grocery store and it was hard hard hard work for my mom and dad along with us children. At the time I hated it but today when I can 40 quarts of tomatoes and 30 pints of different jelly every year I appreciate what they taught me in the 70’s and 80’s it’s a healthy lifestyle.

This man is fantastic. I made his “10 minute cornbread” last night with some soup beans I made and froze the left overs. It took 20 mins for the defrost and reheat of the soup beans and it took me 14 mins to make Phil’s “10 min” corn bread but I’m confident when I make it the best time I’ll crunch it down a few mins. I love Phil, I watch all his speeches and I miss suing him every week… GOD PLEASE CONTINUE TO BLESS THE WHOLE ROBERTSON FAMILY❤ They have changed more lives than they could imagine. All the Robertson men did an amazing job, made beautiful families, and helped the man the raised you RISE infront of OUR creator, and be the EXAMPLE of how EVERY MAN SHOULD BE.

I’ve eaten Mayhaw jelly all my life. I’m 75 yrs old. My grandmother taught me how to gather them from the “Mayhaw Pond”. Just like you do, except we spread sheets under the sheets & I’d climb up in the tree. I still make the jelly & some syrup every year. They are tiny berries. The Mayhaw is a Hawthorne that fruits. It used to fruit in May, thus, Mayhaw!. The Mayhaw is indigenous to the Deep South only. A true southern delicacy!. Everyone loves it.

Mayhaws probably started out as a food for poor folks to harvest and turn into something to eat. I know that you don’t just find the trees everywhere but when you find one you will probably find several. The jelly is crazy delicious on a buttery biscuit. But I don’t know what other jelly to compare it to as it just has a beautiful soft flavor. Glad to see Phil instilling this into the next generation. I tell you that with where the politics is taking us right now, treats like theses may turn back into necessities. Thank y’all for sharing
