    Love your work Wesley, but when you said you were going to "Scale It Up" I was kinda expecting something bigger than a 1 to1 scale of the spiders we have here crawling around inside our house in Australia🤣🤣🤣 But nice work all the same!

    ...there's a huge, weird meta-perception thing going on with humans and spodiddlers. That looks like a spider, and is deep cool, but, wrong number of limbs. Spodiddlers have ten limbs, eight mostly for walking, two smaller for walking and poking. We're told from birth spooters have eight legs, we draw spooters with eight legs, recognise symbolically eight legs, but if you look at an actual spooter, there's ten there. Which isn't me saying you got it wrong, it's just interesting the degree to which we can know things that are not true. Like, people tell me, from time to time, that polar bears aren't white - their hair is transparent. Which is sorta true, except when you see a polar bear somewhere that's not covered in snow, they're still white. Or that the elephant is the only animal that cannot jump. Then you point at a snail with a raised eyebrow and they get upset and tell you you know what they mean, and you're all, let's see all them leapin' rhinocerosesesses you got back there.

    • @WesleyTreat
      @WesleyTreat  10 місяців тому +1

      Spiders have 8 legs and 2 pedipalps, which are more pronounced on some spiders than others, but they're not used for walking and aren't considered to be legs. This design is based loosely on a female Argiope aurantia that used to live outside my workshop. They have very long legs and almost unnoticeable pedipalps. 🤓

    I'd like to learn to weld, haven't had the time. I'm confused - some people are adamant about cleaning the metal before they weld, some don't seem to care. Did you not think it was important to clean the metal?

    • @HomebrewHorsepower
      @HomebrewHorsepower 11 місяців тому

      It depends on the material and the process you're using to weld, as well as how strong you need the welds to be. MIG welding indoors, where wind can't blow the shielding gas off the weld, in mild steel is extremely forgiving, and if you'renot welding something structural, then minor imperfections in the welds probably dont matter. Stick welding or Flux core welding would be even more forgiving. On the other side of the equation, TIG welding aluminum requires the material be surgically clean if you want nice looking, strong, airtight welds.
