I know some people turn it into the fasting Olympics, like it's a competitive sport instead of a method to get healthy. If a nice coffee keeps you going, or even a stick of gum, than have it. It's better than giving up all together isn't it?

It does. People get their panty twisted because it's not fasting-fasting(if you do it for insuline purposes skip it)but a bit of cream(that keeps you in ketosis)it's not going to stop you to lose weight. I drank coffee with a bit of cream and artificial sweetener and lose 10 kilos the same

Yes! I have been on restrictive diets since my teens (30 years) and could not stick to any because I love all kind of food- especially carbs and sweets. I’ve found that I don’t have to completely abstain from them if I IF or OMAD. This is what works for me. Diets that completely eliminate any pleasurable food are not sustainable. But I can deal with some hunger for a few times a day until my lunch.

The key is to just stay food conscious consistently. It’s easy to get into unhealthy routine and habits. Be accountable for everything you put in your mouth and you will get results. If you have a “bad food decision night” wake up the next day and exercise, nothing crazy, just short walk/run remind yourself it’s a process and you are still in the fight.

You’re not supposed to drink coffee or caffeine in general within an hour of waking. It can result in being more tired. Look into it. Just a recommendation since we all want coffee first thing but it’s actually counterintuitive to your goal if you drink it so close to waking up.

It’s easy to fast when you’re using a drug. Caffeine is a drug. And a poisonous one, at that. But the damage it does to your hormones, your nervous system, your sleep, your digestion is not worth it. It will jack you up. When you replace food with the drug caffeine you put yourself into fight or flight (stress) mode and your body, thinking you’re in danger, shuts down the digestive system and breaks down muscle (gluconeogenesis) to provide you with that sugar hit. To do this every day is devastating to your body. It WILL catch up to you.
Why can’t people fast without drugging themselves?
