some other groups also use markings on the floor, but they aren't usually that intricate. its usually just a center marking, in fact. but i guess this choreo had a lot of formation changes which is why they used them

All kpop groups come together through
First auditioning for a company
Second becoming a trainee in the company they auditioned for
Thirdly the company then chooses the trainees they feel fit best together and those trainees become a group after years/months of training
Rarely do kpop groups come together from being a group of friends or that sort of situation and it is not liked amongst kpop fans because of the lack of company training and value company training has in Kpop

Really if you are talking about groups that have little to no dancing mostly the bands are the ones such as Day6 FTIsland, CNBlue, etc. but that doesn't mean they are not also amazing. They're musicians not just performers. :D Where most pop groups are expected to be able to dance and sing, bands have to be able to play instruments and sing.

Here is some information to help you understand the kpop industry (Sorry it's going to be a little long.): Kpop is very different from western music. Groups are formed by their companies (or what the western industry would call record labels) These kids train for years most of the time from a really young age, some as young as 10 years old, all in the hopes of becoming a kpop star. Korean music companies hold auditions and Asian children from all over the world attend these auditions hoping to be selected by the company to start the training program. If a company sees potential in someone they are then selected to become a trainee in the company's training program -- however, this does not necessarily mean they will ever be allowed to debut or become a Kpop star, this is only a chance for them to train in the company and for the company to see if they have potential to make it as an entertainer. They spend years training in dance, singing, public speaking, foreign languages, acting, etc. (You can't be a part of a Kpop group without at least having some skill in dance, as well as being able to sing and/or rap, but not everyone is put in a group, some trainees become solo artists or are put in groups that are bands, etc. It all depends on a person's skill level and what they are good at.) The amount of time someone spends as a trainee depends on how talented someone is. On average a kpop star trains from 2-7 years before they even step foot on stage. After some time, if they are lucky, the company decides a trainee is ready to become a member of a group. To create a group a company selects several trainees adding and subtracting members until they find the right dynamic and the mix of vocals, dance and visual talent they are looking for to satisfy whatever concept they are going for with the new group. Once a group is put together, the group then spends several more months or years training together. Members of Kpop groups live, work and train together, their group members become more like family than their own families. Once a company decides a group is ready they are allowed to debut and finally become an official Kpop group -- they are given a name and a style and concept is given to them, they are given their first song and official choreography to go with the song and they begin appearing on variety shows, on music programs and they release their first music video and promotional content. The dedication and perfection you see is what makes Kpop so epic.
Although groups such as BTS are made up of all native Korean member, this is not the case for many groups. Most Kpop groups, such as EXO, have some members who are foreigners. Some Kpop groups have members who are Chinese, Japanese or Thai (from Thailand) or members who are Korean-American, Korean-Australian, Korean-Canadian, Taiwanese-American, Chinese-American, Chinese-Canadian, etc. Many trainees come to Korea not knowing a word of Korean and they have to learn to be fluent in Korean. Kpop stars are also expected to study English, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, as well as a number of other foreign languages. All Kpop groups not only release songs and albums in Korean, but most also have albums in Mandarin Chinese and/or Japanese so they need to be proficient in both Mandarin and Japanese as well.
The members of EXO, as well as most Kpop groups, did not know each other before becoming a group. They were all trainees for SM Entertainment and the company put them together to form the group. EXO debuted in 2012 so they have been together for almost 6 years as an official group, but most of the members have known each other for years prior to that when you consider the time they were together as trainees. They live and work together 24/7 so they have become like brothers. Originally EXO had 12 members and 4 members were Chinese and one of the Chinese members was Chinese-Canadian. However, now EXO has 9 members with 1 member who is Chinese, because 3 of their Chinese members left the group to (short answer) pursue solo careers back in China.
yes please do react to exo's eclectic kiss. as for concerts you should check their concerts and live performances. they don't usually have that court lines in their practice rooms plus they have a lot of practice rooms. they are not related but they grew up and trained together in the same entertainment company since they were kids. they also lived together since trainy days.

To answer your questions:
1. There are solo kpop idols.
2. It’s kind of “requirement” for an idol to dance - they have to encompass an entire entertainment package.
3. The lines aren’t that common, but they for these dance practice videos, it’s common to place something to mark the end of the stage (the most common is a roll of toilet paper).
4. Kpop idol groups are formed by their companies. They train for several years before the company decides if they’re good enough to release the as group. Training = practicing dance, singing, and acting for hours on end every day. The companies usually have a group kind of put together to see if it works out in training. Korea’s systematic when it comes to idols.
5. The groups kinda start of as strangers since they all come from different cities and backgrounds, but during training they can becomes pretty close friends since they go through the same training. They also have “normal”/non-idol friends and friends in other idol groups.
6. Blooper type videos you’ll find in this wonderful YT. Other YT users have made compilations of mistakes on stage and etc. the cooler ones are the videos where their music cuts out and they have to find a solution - keep singing without music or ask the backstage guys for fix real quick.

○ Majority of the Korean idols dance, it's like a requirement lol.
○ And to answer your question about the basketball-court-like-dance-floor (phew, that's long phrase) the answer is no. It's really creative though because it is helpful. Most of the time there is like a center item (like a water bottle, an 'X' on the floor, tape etc.) that acts as a guide. That is why they are able to get into formations in relatively easy way along with practice.
○ None of the EXO members were friends or knew each other prior to joining their company, SM Entertainment. Their road to becoming EXO (and for all of the other Korean groups with the exception of a few) was: Audition → Trainee period (can be months and even years) → Company chooses which trainees they think want to debut → More training → Debut
In EXO's case one of the members said in an interview that that there were originally 120 trainees in the running for EXO then 100 → then 60 → then 24 → and then finally the 12 members of EXO were selected (although four of the EXO members left during 2014-2015 ).

I hope you read this comment. You guys have to react to the Kings of Kpop “BIGBANG”. They are cited as one of the most influential acts to shape the Kpop industry by helping spread the Korean wave internationally and the media hence dubbed them the Kings of Kpop 👑
The choreography for Electric Kiss is performed in their Electric Kiss MV and for their Japanese concert tour, as well as if they promote this song during any of their variety show appearances and awards show performances they will also dance the choreography there. This song is off their most recent Japanese album. I also really don't think the marks on the floor had a whole lot to do with their dance. This was the first time I have ever seen them dance in a practice room with any marks on the floor and i know EXO have been dancing long enough that they don't really need marks to make sure they are spaced out correctly or that they stay in formation. I am not sure why there were marks on the floor in this practice room but my guess is they were there before EXO started practicing -- I think like a basketball court there are just lines on the floor and they really had nothing to do with EXO's choice to use that room, but it did serve as a cool way to show how precise they are when they dance. You will probably never see a Kpop dance practice video where a group makes a mistake because the point of the company releasing the video for public viewing is to show off the choreography and to highlight how good of dancers the group is. A company always waits until the group has got the choreography down and can execute it flawlessly before they release the video.

For solo artists I recommend "BeBe" by Seo In Guk, "Mind Your Own Business" by Ailee, "Yacht" by Jay Park, etc. There are just as many solo artists as there are groups. Kpop is just like western music when it comes to types of music. There is a type of music for everyone from K-pop to K-Hip Hop, R&B to ballad dance music to bands, etc. and there are large groups with 13 members to groups that only have 2 members (and everything in between) and solo artists and even a few coed groups (however, coed groups are more rare). Plus the majority of kpop artists who are in groups also have side projects where they do solo work. So our list of recommendations could go on for days or even months. LOL

exo k and exo m versions of Mama music video. It is their debut song and the dancing is lit. That was when Exo was in 2 sub units Exo-k and Exo-m.
this dance practice is actually for their concert, that's why the lines are there (it's the stage). It was released by SM but then they deleted the video, but someone managed to save the video and re-posted it.
A fun fact most people in kpop groups are not professional dancers and they just practice sooo so much to get it perfect and work hard. That why I appreciate and love them all sooo much

The dance routines that are in practice videos is what is performed in music videos and when they perform in concerts. I don't know any kpop group that doesn't do this, but I've only been into kpop since last year.
The dance practice video for The Eve is amazing! ⚔️ You should definitely watch that! They don't have a music video for that song, so the practice video and live performances are the only way to see the dance.

They come together through their companies. All of these idol groups are from companies who conducts auditions. Some get casted on the street and invited to audition and some directly audition to the company. Inside the company, they are going to be trained to dance and sing. Some celebrity basics too. When it's time to produce a new group, the company would hold performance presentations to see who is fit to be in their next idol group. Along the way, they can become friends because aside from training together, they also live in dorms.

We need a concert performance reaction to EXO lol My favorite is Wolf Live in Exordium Japan ^^.... Of course, there are artists that are solos. Only ones I know of that don't dance are GD, Zico, and Zion.T haha... There are a few performance where they do mess up or miss their cues, but it is rare. :) Be aware, they're performing at the Closing Ceremony next Sunday :) I haven't subscribed yet, but I have my eye on ya'll :D
