After the 'English Pub Signs' and the 'Hungarian Folk Art' videos, I like to think of this one, as part three in my little art history trilogy :) timestamps are here for the time travelers : 0:00 Art of the Middle Ages in Medieval England 1:04 What are Illuminated Manuscripts 2:59 Book Of Kells - Insular Style 5:52 Winchester Benedictional - Winchester Style 9:28 Winchester Bible - Romanesque Style 13:23 Queen Mary Psalter - Gothic Style 18:25 What are Drolleries Enjoy, Laz
Thank you, this was fascinating to me! I love art and history. I've always questioned why so many portraits seem to have the same face in 1500-1700s (?) even in the same painting from the parents down to all of the children - just smaller versions. This is like our modern cut & paste to me and not original. They hair may be different, but it's the same face. Am I the only one who thinks that way?
Good question, i think oftentimes it's something that happens when different artist are all trying to obtain the same set of specific style marks which result in similarities in their art 😊 glad you liked the video, thanks for watching! 👌 Laz
Since I retired I’ve become fascinated by illuminated texts and letters . This was a tremendous amount of information. It will help a lot in my quest for better understanding. Thank you! 😊👋🏼
I know my mss well etc and I'd suggest MORE "illuminating images" from manuscripts and (sorry) less of "you" lecturing on screen. But am so happy your garnered many viewers......so many people have NO idea of the beauty, the horror, and why images are so extraordinary.
