I had forgotten that character named Mink. I have since read the so-called "Snopes Trilogy" by Faulkner, and one of the side stories in that trilogy is about a man named Mink, Mink Snopes. Surely not a coincidence. No more than that the writer's name in an earlier pic is named Fink; nor that William Faulkner is a character in that movie.

Steve was initially selected because he was ordinary looking. Then they realise what a wonderful talent he is, and I would suggest the movie going Audience can relate to him because he is just like one of them, but with some very special talents and projects that through his characters, my favourite being Boardwalk Empire, Nucky Thompson?

Steve Buscemi is so good, just so good. Yes, he is funny looking. But this man played Kruschev so believably because he is so good.

Just is another way of saying unconventional looking, where most actors are chosen for appealingly familiar, distinctive - conventional - looks. For any actor, being unconventional in any way is a blessing, allowing them to stand out. Jennifer Grey was 'funny looking' from my perspective, but there was a tremendous charisma to her.

I always assumed that they wrote that role for Steve in mind. So that's how poor Steve found out he's "funny looking".

Reminds me of when Howard Stern had High Pitch Eric read Mickey Mouse lines. Eric thought he needed to TRY and sound like Mickey Mouse and they’re like “no dude, just read the damn lines in your normal voice”. He actually had no self awareness that his real voice sounded that much like Mickey Mouse.

Steve: "I just love working with the Coens, they're great guys!"
So they cast him in a mivie where he's repeatedly referred to as a funny lookin' guy, who eventually gets an axe to the face and thrown in a woodchipper.
I'd hate to get on their bad side 😄

Add a little bit of weight and there might still be time for him to play Peter Lorre in a piece about that era of films. My favorite actors have a particular skill set; they can be funny, really funny. But, they can also be so menacing that they're scary. It's a short list.
