I was just going to say that sounds an awful lot like "Don't Dream of Anybody But Me," so I looked up "Li'l Darin'" to make sure I wasn't crazy. I was today years old when I learned that the former was adapted from the latter. All thanks to your excellent rendition here. PS: Caught your act last week at Cliff Dwellers. You were aces.
Thank you, Kevin! I was unaware that there were lyrics written to "'Lil Darlin'". I looked up Ella Fitzgerald's version. Glad you enjoyed the Cliff Dwellers performance!
Yeah, that Ella Fitzgerald side is how I first heard the tune (though I'm a HUGE Basie fan). The first time it debuted with lyrics was when Basie and Mel Torme did it on the Judy Garland Show in 1963. There's also a pretty good Bobby Darrin version I've been listening to since high school, lol. Anyway, thanks again for such a great show. I was gonna come by and say congratulations, but I got caught up talking with Lindsay and some folks. Hopefully next time. @@PamelaYork
Lovely. Kind of in a toe tapping rhythm . Ray Charles has a version that's so " languid " that you almost fall out of your chair waiting for the next note . He has the discipline to wait that extra 1/10 of a second in spite of the melody pushing the song forwatd . Thanks for your beautiful playjng of a great song .
Always sooo good to hear you, Pamela! I have such fond memories of our stint at Pala Casino w/Chris Conner (R.I.H.). That was such a wonderful grrowth gig for me! Happy New Year and I hope you and your family are well!
not easy to emulate and entire orchestral arrangement........nice work.... i do this on guitar, it's sometimes difficult to know where to play the solo notes, and still try to keep the back up going as well....
Nice playd. I playd that in a smaal bigband in denmark in eyarly 90´tis. In the 1980´is we playd copy from america. Bud later i was komposing my own music and local languiqe on text. People cot scared. They never heard that before on this remote island. I playd the piano and instrumental, so that was now fun. To day i work and play music as a hobby. Do some sheep and play flute 🙂

Beautiful - I like this slightly faster pace too 👏
Thank you!
This woman taught me to clap on 2&4. [Been working on it ever since...] Yeah Pamela!
Thanks for checking out my video!
Really nice playing! I think the "less is more" approach is the best one for this song, and I mean that as a compliment.
Thanks so much!

❤The first four bars 🎼- I thought it was Shiny Stockings. 1:18 is a bit like Duke's "You don't come around anymore."🎹
Yes, some of those big band standards sound similar!

Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! I used to play this with a big band too. 😊
@@PamelaYork Playing music is like taking a deep breth in a fresh air. You feel better - mostly - after. :-)
Was doing - thru the bosnian war - a big band in denmark, and working all my day time the over 30 male from the war. Doing them to get a good life.
