1. Simple Sentence
An independent clause (sentence)
Example:
• Saman goes to work by train every day.
2. Compound Sentence
independent clause + coordinating conjunction + independent clause
(coordinating conjunction = for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.-FANBOYS)
Example:
• Saman goes to work by train every day, but other officemates go to work by bus.
3. Complex Sentence
independent clause + subordinating conjunction + dependent clause(s)
(subordinating conjunction can come in any place of the sentence)
Example:
• Whenever I have free time, I go swimming.
4. Compound-Complex Sentence
independent clauses + subordinating conjunction + coordinating conjunction + dependent clause(s)
(conjunctions can come in any place in the sentence)
Example:
• Kamal doesn’t eat rice because he has diabetic, so he tends to eat sugar-free food most of the time.
