The Mystery of St Mary's Church Tintern

Some of the eerie facts surrounding St Mary's Church, set on a hill over looking the village of Tintern in Wales.
Dating from the 12th century, the church has a long history, being a refuge for monks from the nearby Abbey. It was later rebuilt in the 19th century and destroyed by fire in 1977. It has a reputation of being haunted and it's where my wife had a feeling of foreboding in 1977 when we visited the church yard. This, unknown to us, was just a month after the tragedy that sadly claimed 2 lives. So, 47 years later, I go back to investigate the mysterious events that occurred there!

I got chatting to one of the locals who was battling the undergrowth there. He told me prior to the two lads dying in the fire, the church was being used by a coven, and had seen a pentagram painted on the church floor. It was quite the scandal apparently and reported in the local press.

Thanks for the info! Yes, a local I spoke to mentioned there being a pentangle on the church floor! Obviously before the fire, as it was unused as a church for around 5 years. But the local thought it was nonsense! Anyway, there's no doubt it has a rather ominous history, that's for sure! Cheers👍

This Church could be sold to the SSPX for restoration, and make it a traditional retreat center.

That's very unlikely as the church is privately owned and the graveyard by the church of Wales.
