Before Rakim, you never heard any rapper put words together like he does in his lyrics. People say Rakim is the difference between everyone who rapped before him, and everyone who rapped after him. Thats why we call him "The God Emcee" (MC)
That was Dj Scott LaRock son ( KRS-One's Dj ) he had passed away or was killed I believe...and back in the day DJs were the main focus of the parties and the group. The rappers bragged on their DJs a lot back then. Some did produced as well. Eric did some production but as the years went on we found out Rakim had done a lot of it.❤
Nah, man. Scott La Rock's son was in Boogie Down Productions' "My Philosophy" video a year after this, and he was still a little baby. The little kid in this video is the son of either Paid In Full Posse member Supreme Magnetic 🇵🇷 or his brother Rapp, can't remember which one. Rakim and Eric B confirmed that way back. RIP Rapp 🙏
a couple things here, first I heard this music growing up in New York after midnight on the radio like a beautiful secret and the way you're reacting to the music is the way I feel still when I hear these tracks. secondly you doing a great job just being you so don't overthink it, third you got to remember a lot of this music was shaped in New York in the '80s so a lot of the references in all of this music or pop culture from 40 years ago. meaningless to you, but that's not about a lack of research that's just about the music being of its time. silly rabbit is a reference to the trix serial commercials that were on constantly when we only had four channels to watch. The reanimator was a fantastic indie horror movie that captured everyone's imagination. have a great New Year keep it up, Beastie boys brought me here and you're keeping me here
no no no no ERIK IS THE PRODUCER AND YES THE DJ AS WELL, Erik was a radio DJ so he had access to all kinds of samples, he was looking for a rapper and found Rak, Rak was hanging and doing local shows with BIZMARKIE at the time the long island rappers aned rock artists all stuck together and it payed off
Eric B. was a DJ but he was also kinda heavy in them streets…Rakim was said to have done some of the scratching on that first album. Production was a combination of both them along with the legendary Marley Marl.
They both produced beats. They also brought the records that they wanted sampled to producers and told them what they wanted done. So even if Marley Marl wanna take credit for the production, they told him what they wanted. It wasn't Marley original beats.
I'm so glad I grew up in a time when nobody could rewind shit they weren't capable of understanding because they were too busy saying the same dumb catchphrases over and over. He different. Let's go.
So if you want Hip-Hop from this era…then you should start with the class of 86…Rakim (Eric. B. & Rakim), KRS-One (Boogie Down Productions), Kool G. Rap (Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo) and Big Daddy Kane. Those 4 alone could give you enough content for a separate channel.

I think your old school videos will become more than just on Thursday's. That rabbit hole is going to take over your channel. Salute.

LYRICS OF FURY is one you should definitely react to. Rakim goes off on that track.
Eric B did scratches and programmed the beats, but Rakim brought the records to sample
Lyrics of Fury ...no video to it ....but just listen and comprehend the lyrical mastery

Some contemporary artists know the history, A$AP Rocky was named after Rakim.
