According to many authorities, the Hejaz Railway Project, which is considered the last major project of the Ottoman Empire, was the product of the effort to unite the ummah. The Hejaz railway, which was started to be built in 1900, would connect Damascus and Medina. When the lines starting from Istanbul reached Damascus, the Istanbul - Medina line would have been combined. Thus, when the Mecca line, the dream of the Hejaz railway, was completed, the capital Istanbul and the precious city Mecca would meet. Transportation between the Straits and the Arabian Peninsula will accelerate, and a significant gap in security and military shipments will be closed. Another benefit of the project was that it reduced the pilgrimage to a very short time and made the journey safe. The first expedition to Medina was made on 27 August 1908. The great project was implemented, Damascus and Medina were connected by rail, and Haifa and Istanbul could reach Medina much faster. It was time to extend the railway to Mecca. But the dream continued until here and the rails could not be extended to Mecca. As the construction approached Medina, felt was laid under the tracks so that the memory and spirit of the Companions who died in Masjid an-Nabawi, Quba Mosque, Veda Hill and Uhud would not be hurt. Great ideas were permanent, like horizons. Medina station was the last stop where the great ummah met the railway network. The bond of love established between Istanbul and Medina is capable of rebuilding hundreds of Hejaz railways.

He says shame on arab rulers because this railway was built to aid muslims across the empire to perform the Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam.
The railway was funded in part by poor and innocent muslims across the world, from india to egypt to tunisia to the rest of the empire. So much sweat, so much effort was put into it. And how do these arab insurgents respond? by blowing this piece of history up.
      It's sad, really.

@@talal-alqahtani what are you even talking about, aside from forced conscription (which literally countries still have to this day), i have never heard a single thing about what you are saying. They took artifacts from the Haramain? They evicted Arab families until there was only 140 people? They used slave labor? Can you give any sources for any of this?
Also, very brave being a nationalist calling out slave labor when your country still has the kafala system lol

When I worked in Jeddah in 1986 I explored this railroad from Medina to Tabuk, seeing wrecked trains blown off the track by the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire during WWI Also there were complete trains in abandoned in the Hejaz Valley. I want to go back and explore the railroad from Medina to Al Ula but a Saudi guide tells me the wrecks are no longer there. Can anyone verify if the wrecks are gone or are still there, Thanks, Robert

The great Turkish emperor Abdulhamid II had planned this so that the pilgrims could provide cheaper transportation. But the Arabs betrayed Turkey. Right now, the Middle East is in shambles. There is a state called Israel and everyone regrets their betrayal against Turkey. We call the Arab revolution in Turkey an "Arab betrayal"

The video says at 0:38 that the railway was intended to go all the way to Mecca to make pilgrimages shorter, so I think that was clear, unless I’m misunderstanding what hajj and umrah are (but I looked them up and it says that they are pilgrimages to Mecca).
