34 came after the 17L because the 1911 race gun guys got butthurt when a $600 Glock was beating out their tricked out rigs and they came up with the rule that the gun has to fit in a certain size box in order to qualify. Glock made the 34 just to fit in that box
Anytime I bring my gen 3 Glock 17L out to the range most people never even heard of it and it gets weird looks. Love the gun though. Definitely a fun oddball
I’ve seen pictures of Glock slides where the nose ring has cracked ruining the slide so the removable polymer ring is genius, it would be nice to see after market titanium replacements come out on the market.
@@jmoney5690 Don't know how it could be. Gen 3 slide won't fit that frame, and you can't exactly add to that slide. There may be some after market piece that replaces the plastic, but it's brand new, and no one is making it yet... Plus it's still going to be serperate piece. Eh... I'll be perfectly happy with my gen 3... Matches my 24.
Finger pointing alignment is why the 1911 grip angle is great, most of us keep our index finger next to our middle finger when pointing, not angled up as you do when pointing, so for me a Glock naturally aims high. I guess this is why multiple grip angles for various firearms exist…
I’m kind of surprised they didn’t put the performance trigger in this from the factory, but I’m not mad about it either. I guess the connector being lighter from the factory is good enough to start with.
I carried a Glock 17L Gen 1 on duty for years. I had to send off to a place in California to have a duty holster made for it. The place is called Tex Shoemaker. Not sure if they are still in business....Good luck. I will say this. The long slide will dig into the seat of your patrol car lol.
i have a gen 5 34 MOS with front serrations. I'm not seeing much different other than the polymer guide rod channel which is def a negative for me. I like "rare" glocks, but this one is going to be a pass for me.

Nice...I just bought my 17L gen3 2 weeks ago...just to let you all know....these shoot very accurately out of the box...I did need to oil the slide because of feed issues...but after the oiling....ran like a dream..

The G34 barrel is 5.31" long The G17L barrel is 6.02" long. Gets you that much closer to the bullseye 👍 I owned the G34 along with my 17L Gen3. I sold the G34. I think the G17L feels better. It's a keep forever gun.
I think they went with the polymer dust cover in order to keep The function the same without having to do the port on the slide like the G34? That’s just my speculation though
The Gen 5 Glock 17L long slide looks interesting but I'll stick with my Gen 3 Glock 1934 long slide. It's a Glock 19 fitted with a Glock 34 slide with a Lone Wolf Distributor 19XL barrel and a LWD slide adaptor.
@@hansblitz7770 With adapters yeah they fit with no gaps. Otherwise what limits you in Glock slide/barrel selection fitment, is the barrel itself since Gen3's used different locking lug/barrel setups for each size gun. Gen 5 barrels are all based on the Gen3 19 lug so you can drop a Gen5 any size barrel in a Gen3 19. Makes way more sense. Short grip long slide is also a vibe and balances really well. I cut my G34 grip to a G19 size, and cut a PSA compact Dagger down to a G26 grip.
The Glock 40 10mm is almost as long. It is only .05 inches shorter. You can shoot 40 S&W out of 10mm, although you may need a lighter recoil spring for reliability.
G17L is best of Breed. Any generation. 6.02" barrel matters. Optimal 9mm ballistics matters. Longest Glock sight radius matters. I'll buy a Gen5 and judge it against my Gen3 G17L. I have a 17L Gen 3. It has a KKM barrel, Timney Alpha trigger, and Kensight adjustable sights. My HK USP Elite is good, but my modded 17L has a better trigger, better sights, better grip, and 25 yards groups prove it to at the very least rival my HK. I realize the grip is subjective. The other factors are not. Overall, for half the price.
im guessing those Gucci bob cuts for the covers will now be like 30 dollars or something since its plastic and doesnt require milling when you can just make a plastic mold or maybe even 3D print it out of carbon fiber?

People wanted all the gen 3 with the MOS options but Glock wouldn't do it and I'm kinda glad they didn't because even though I have carried the same Gen 3 Glock 17 and my wife the Glock 26 for the last 17 years a couple years ago I got the p365XL to try optics on and it retired my wife's 26 almost immediately, the canik rival retired the 34 for target gun but my 17 is very sentimental so I'm starting to feel like a 1911 guy holding on to it as my primary care when I know better option are available now.😂

They're so damn goofy, but I love the long slide glocks. I have no clue why, but I am just strangely attracted to them. Long slide 1911s, too. The hardballer is so good-looking. I guess playing tons of Hitman when I was younger helped with that.
@@natei3518The 24L is a pretty rare glock anymore. Plus you can convert it to .357 sig even though you can still shoot .357 Sig out of it regardless but having a conversion for it would be pretty sweet & it would tame the recoil on the .357 Sig the most out of any other glock.
TY 4 "pointing out" the secret finger-pointing!! That was how I was taught DECADES AGO!! I have NEVER bot a glock, mainly because of two reasons: 1. They never fit my hands comfortably( I AM ONLY MAN IN AMERICA w/small hands(!!!?!!!😅). 2. The amount of unnecessary real estate on Blocks mentally chaffed my aiming process. I like the finger grooves, as it naturally indexes consistant grip. Maybe, by glock 97, they may build one that fits my style.😅. I will keep watching ur vids, as I appreciate ur style conversation, so that I may learn more. TY.
Funny enough i have giant hands, but they also dont fit well on a normal glock. Also, try out a glock 48 or 43x, you might like them as they are MUCH slimmer and less bulky. Although you really need aftermarket mags to get the most use out of them.

The ideas behind a long gun is sight radius and velocity. If you put a red dot on it, you only have velocity left.
The long slide results in Less felt recoil and reduced muzzle rise
They are all built on p80 frames so gen 3 but i have 3 glock 17L 2 with rmr cuts all with timney triggers

The nose ring slows the slide. Watched other videos. It causes a malfunction. I own the Gen 1 and Gen 5 17L.

Should've kept tthe cutout in the front of the slide the ones under the plate are pointless if your gonna add more weight with a red dot

Are they compatible with Timney triggers? Glock triggers work just fine for me, but I'm considering grabbing one for an upgrade.
With the exception of the barrel and slide, it is identical to the Gen5 G17. (Really ALL of the Gen5 double stack 9mm and 40 S&W Glocks.)

The 17L has the sight radius advantage if you are using iron sights. The 34 points more quickly, especially if you're using a red dot.
