American Viewer here, honestly love the different takes on hunting as a whole where ever you go. Maybe once I’m older and have the cash to travel I could get to try my hand hunting abroad in the different traditional styles. Also I enjoy seeing the fancier double barrel guns instead of the relatively common semi autos and pumps that make up the fields and woods around me.

I am also American, but I have done British pheasant shoots. I really wouldn’t call it hunting though, they are farm raised birds released to shoot at. Hardly reaches any definition of a hunt.

Pheasants would eat the newly planted corn in my great grandfather's farm ruining his crop. They were illegal to shoot. When the cops found out he was shooting them they paid him a visit and said he would be fined if he kept shooting them. They also said, if the birds caused any loss they would reimburse him. He stopped shooting them and they ruined his crop. He went in and explained what happened. The man went into the back and came out and dropped a bag of corn on the counter and said "there you go". Needless to say that didn't go over well with a man who had left home at 16 to find his way in the world. Still from that day forward my great grandfather never shot another Pheasant... but he did shoot and eat a lot of what he called "dark chicken". And his corn came back. Haha that's one of my dad's favorite stories. He named me after my great grandfather.

Our grandfathers wore ties hunting... They dressed decent for most of the hunting they did. I started wearing plaids and woolens again for deer. Drab canvas for quail and dove. I guess the ducks and turkeys are about all I really camo up for anymore. I love seeing all this stunning English woolens and tweeds and how perfectly it blends in with and graces the English countryside. They become brushstrokes on the land and the hunting is more beautiful for it. It shows the respect they still have for the game and tradition and wonderful aesthetic. I wish more did it like this here in Georgia.

I am just now learning about British hunting and the commonalities and differences between it and the U.S but over here in the southern U.S it is uncommon to not eat what you shoot. for people to go hunt and not eat the thing they shot is not only very odd but very unsportsmanlike. hunters hunt to eat, so you eat what you shoot or you don't shoot it at all.

Every single shoot that has kept beaters away from guns has been a disappointment for me regardless of the quality of birds. But then I wouldn't dream of turning up for a shoot day without a slab of beer and a slab of full fat coke for the beaters at lunch time. Without them there is no driven day. In the same vein I always make a point of thanking the beaters at the end of the day. I've done enough of both beating and standing to know a few words can be the difference between beaters thinking guns are dicks and beaters going the extra mile in the rain or the brambles.
