What is life like in one of the least populated places in the country? King County ranks as the third smallest populated county with just 265 people. You might think it doesn't have much to see, but I would disagree. The county seat of Guthrie holds most of the population and business, including the well-known 6666 Ranch made famous by the television show Yellowstone. But there are also some interesting ghost towns and history to be found outside of Guthrie. I had a lot of fun exploring King County!

I checked out the cemetery online and it was 100% photographed, all four headstones. Someone took the trouble to go out to the middle of nowhere, and as you showed it is way out on the dirt roads. I would have never thought to explore here - so am getting a kick out of seeing what’s there. Another great video.

Growing up I lived next to a elderly lady that was born around 1895 or so. She said that when her family got to West Texas around 1905 they lived in a lean-to attached to their wagon. Her father and brother would take the wagon every other month or so and ride 2-3 days to get to the lumber yard...took almost 2 years to build a 200 sqft house!

Thank you for this. I, too, am always interested in places that have low populations, and the reasons why very few people live in those places. So this interesting history for me. You know, even if that cemetery is out in the middle of nowhere, each person buried in that cemetery represents someone special or important to someone

I love these open spaces like this. I drove from Abilene up through Stamford, to Guthrie, then west to go to caprock canyons state park. Next time you are in Guthrie I recommend going west from there and seeing dickens spring. It's amazing how it's so flat near Guthrie then a little west you start to see canyons.
I'd love to watch a video of you exploring all the towns and areas that zig zag the llano estacado. Safe travels man!

Good Morning, The 6666 is world famous ,several cowboy's spent most of their lives working there and they are famous too. I don't think that being connected to the new owner Is a good thing, the store there on the ranch was basically for the ranch people who were working out there. Now it's another tourist attraction. King County and a good amount of your Highway 50 trip sure got you out to where you had elbow room as they use to say. At least fighting traffic was not a concern. Even then, it is still a wonderful look at the vast changes that we have in our country as one travels along. Loved all the drone shots, but that last one panning out down the road that you had come in on to show nothing but miles of country, was a nice shot to show where you were. And makes me glad for today's mechanized transportation that we have. You would of had quite a ride by horseback or carriage to get back to civilization. Plus I understand the a/c wasn't all that good in a buggy!
Thanks once more for taking us along!

Some very good observations! As I get older sitting in traffic is high on my lift of least favorite things 😂 I could’ve hung out all day in the open range - it was so desolate and beautiful in my mind!

@@TravelwithaWiseguy While driving for an LTL, I preferred to work country routes if I was on pickup and delivery work. Most of the guys wanted city work. So I was able to stay happy because no one would fight me for the country route. It was what I wanted to do, and was great most of the time. Exceptions being little things such as having only one way to get freight to a farmstead, and finding a three ton bridge on that only road to the destination. Front axle alone was over three ton! Luckily never had one of those old bridges ever go down. Mostly it is just the county's way of avoiding responsibility. But still made me sit lightly in the seat!
      Yeah, country is best!

My dad worked for the 6666's back in early 50's. Until I think about '56. He had come there in 49, I think because my grandfather got sick and dad took his job over. I was born in Paducah in '53. I dont remember a whole lot about Guthrie. My mom waited tables at the old Conoco cafe. I have been back a few times and always enjoy the trip. I am now in Bear Lake, Pennsylvania. Fun to see this video = I am an armature astronomer and used to do business in Amarillo/ There used to be a roadside park where I would stop and take advantage of the dark sky's. (Some of the darkest sky in America - great for comet hunting). This particular night I had the telescope all set up and went back to the car to grab a Dr.Pepper and some oatmeal cookies. On my return I herd some noise, Surprised I turned around to see the biggest and equally surprised skunk I have ever seen in my life, But instead of getting sprayed he or she just looked at me. I guess it was the first time it had ever seen a human. I left my oatmeal raisin cookie as a peace offering. and got back in the car. I didn't want to press my luck, so, After about 20 minutes sitting in the car I got out and packed up my gear and got out of there. And I have never been back.
