Thanks man, glad you liked it. Your statement at the end was wonderful. We musicians have to be humble and thankful to have the possibility to do what we love. Thank you so much. I would love to see your reaction to our new Video. Pray to the Hunter. All best and Thanks again
Couldn't agree with you more, we are beyond blessed to be able to be on stage and perform in front of our fans. They take the time out of their lives and pay their hard earned money to come see you and support you, or us, or whoever the band might be. If we go out there and give anything less than 100% of ourselves during our show, then we are cheating those people and that's not right. I can see you have the exact same mentality and passion, and I absolutely respect that. I'll see what I can do about doing a reaction to your newest video, I think someone actually already requested it and it's in the que. FEELIN' YOU Alea, C'mon Now!!!
Man thanks for the answer. I hope you can see us playing live one day. Everything we do is from the heart and it is made possible by the people Supporting us each and every day. Take care and hope to meet you one day All best from Kaiserslautern in Germany
@@alea_saltatio I would live to see you guys perform live. I really dig your style and your voice is fantastic, love your power, projection, and tone. Do you ever tour in the US?
Saltatio Mortis are always full of energy and joy on stage. You can always tell how much fun it is for them and that rubs off. They celebrate their 22nd anniversary this year and from everything I've seen of them live so far, nothing has changed in all this time and they are still very close with their audience. The current members are Alea (vocals, guitar, bagpipes, bouzuki, various flutes), Falk (hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, shawm, nyckelharpa, flute, whistle, diatonic accordion), Elsi (bagpipes, shawms, smallpipes, Highland pipes, uilleann pipes, flute, low whistle), Frank (Electric bass, fretless bass, Chapman Stick, electric double bass, guitar, piano, keyboard, ukulele), Till (Gitarre, Bouzouki, Gesang), Luzi (Bagpipes, shawms, bouzouki, whistle), Jean (drums, percussion, piano, guitar, voice) and until two years ago Lasterbalk (drums, davul, percussion). You see, there are a lot of pipes on board ;) I really hope I can see them live this year again.
They usually have 2 pipes as he grey guy (Falk) often plays the Hurdy Gurdy. One of their members builds them too. I think the high energy level is at least in part due to the Wacken experience. SaMo was founded in 2000 and they played a lot of smaller medieval markets etc slowly and steadily growing their crowd. Did you check out their latest Elder Scroll contribution yet? They did a song for the new expansion High Isle. It's called Pray to the Hunter and the video is plain awesome again, packed with people from the German LARP scene.
Because Scottish pipes can only play one octave (Irish pipes can play 2 octaves) So they're probably tuned differently to provide 3 part harmony. This is probably why you often see pipers in groups. The vocals are great, the other instruments are very well played and arranged, there's great stage presence. Not much not to like. Really to go to Wakken with such a limited stage show and to capture the crowd so completely is pretty much incredible. Really truly a great performance.
Hi David, thanks for this reaction! Saltatio was founded in 2000, if I remember correctly. So they are not new to this game at this point 😉I saw them many times, almost from the beginning, and they are one of these bands who live for the stage and let the audience feel it. Alea (singer) is always like you saw him here, running from one side of the stage to the other, jumping around and sometimes even doing crowd surfing while singing! The reason why they have 3 bagpipes is the pipes have adifferent tone, so togehter they create a full sound. Many bands in the medieval/foik scene have multiple bagpipes for the same reason. And if you want to see (and hear) unusual instruments, check out older songs from In Extremo, for example "Vileman og Magnhild" live at Taubertal Festival or the godfathers of german folk: Corvus Corax!
I've seen metal bands(folk metal) using 2 bagpipes but never 3. Didn't know these guys but they play great and put on a great show. Got a new fan for sure, I love bagpipes in metal, that and violin are my favorite instruments in metal because they're rarely used compared to the usual guitar/bass/drums and even keyboard.
I'm impressed how absolutely fucking ripped the lead singer is. The camera cut to the close shot and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABDOMINALS. I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that, but dude's good looking, has a great voice, and you could grate some Emmentaler cheese on his stomach. Buddy, you win! I'm sitting here eating "fruit" snax at 4am on a Sunday in my computer chair in sweats and a jacket playing video games and watching DH. Good on ya, our bemuscled singer overlord.
Hallo David and "Y'All " (I hate when someone says that, sorry 😶)! There are so many different pipes in ancient european cultures; pipes aren't exclusivly Irish or schottish, probably Oriental. Modern ones can sound Dur or Moll in different octaves and be versatile. I love to listen. So David and Y'All !!! Greetings from Germ... ah😤 ( you are right 🤗)
SaMo has two designated bagpipers. The guy usually playing the hurdy gurdy jumps in for the third... and on mostly instrumental songs the singer does the fourth. Regarding Alea being "fresh" on stage: He was in business with SaMo for 17 years at that point. He just loves to make every gig a workout session for the audience. You should have seen him 10 years earlier doing backflips on stage while singing... I've seen them the day after that concert in cologne at a big medieval fair (MPS) and i like them in this smaller setting better (the massive bagpipes have a bigger impact there too).
Saltatio was founded in 2000 and Alea is a founding memer. So he already had 17 years of experience at this point (it's also not their first time at Wacken)
"I remember when I was young..." - how old do you think the singer of Saltatio Mortis is? Ask Google or whatever search engine you trust about Jörg Roth. It's amazing how he looks 20 years younger!
Oh, and it was the second to last song. They still had the time for an encore. That was also the reason why you could see Alea looking at the clock every now and then, because Wacken is hard as nails as far as playing times are concerned.
not naming any band by name, but I had seen them a few times, and more than once the lead singer didnt finish songs, didnt remember lyrics, beat the hell out of his own band mates. needless to say I lost just about all respect for the band. if the artist doesn't appreciate the fact that the fans have spent time effort and money to see them live in person, and cant respect them for what they are. makes me lose all respect for said band!
I had a similar experience: I saw a band several times, and there was interaction with the audience, but the singer said 100% the same words at every performance, sometimes even several times at one performance. Later I found out that they did that just to have some nice audience shots for their live CD. As if the audience was there just for that.

Thanx for requesting them.
I‘ve seen and shot them several times and it had always been lots of fun to experience them.

Like Fuerschwanz they a true folk medieval metal band. They often use violin and hurdy gurdy

Alea (Jörg) was a Shaolin for a while and afaik he’s still coaching. I guess that’ll keep you fit.

technically speaking they have 4 pipers 😉 (Alea (the singer) can play pipes as well)

You can never have too many bagpipes, brother. \m/_//-_-\\_\m/
The crowd is shouting "Zugabe" wich means, "play another Song" and they did. Zugaben are quite normal at Germany Concerts.
The English term would be "encore" I think.
try celtica nova/ pipes rock with megawatt^^
every fan knows this song, it is an unofficial anthem. Shame on the fan who dosent know this song.
