- Welcome to the R.O.A.D. Podcast. The show that gives you unfiltered opinions from the eyes and ears of 3 seasoned DJ’s from the Las Vegas nightclub industry.
On this week’s episode of the @RoadPodcast, the fellas welcome an important collective of influential Las Vegas locals who helped bring Hip-Hop to the Las Vegas Strip: DJ Franzen (@FrandalayBay), Jonathan "Shecky Green" Shecter (@SheckyGreenLV) and DJ Warren Peace (@Warren702). Warren speaks on Hip-Hop in Sin City during the ’80s and ’90s with iconic clubs like Utopia and All Star Cafe (9:50), talks about an altercation with #Tupac at #SugeKnight's "Club 662" (27:50), confirms that "RA Nightclub" had the first official Hip-Hop night on the Strip (29:00) and recalls terms like “Open Format” and “Upscale Hip Hop” being used by venues (1:02:20). Franzen speaks about the "OPM / Poetry Nightclub" days and creating a strong presence for Bay Area Hip-Hop in LV ( 1:18:02). The crew credit @Victor_Drais for taking a chance opening the first "All Hip Hop Nightclub" (1:30:01), commend Franzen for staying in the Hip Hop genre during the EDM boom (1:35:01) and discuss nightclubs never championing their resident DJs (1:58:55). Finally, Shecky asks @DJCrooked about his personal thoughts on some of the offensive comments made from a previous episode with #ClintonSparks (2:25:02).

Warren Peace and the Word Up Show on KUNV are legendary! The Vegas hip-hip scene in the mid-late 90’s birthed some of my best memories…
Wow! This episode got real deep in this one especially in the 50th years of hip-hop. Mind blown keep up the great work!
Classic episode! I also remember going to Vegas raves and warehouse parties in the late 90’s where there were also hip hop rooms. I got to see dj’s like Presto One and DJ Five on vinyl playing underground hip hop. Great times!
this is like a b2b set !!! 😂 nothing but banger episodes back to back !! 🎉
Dope 🔥🔥🔥
This was great. Thank you!
this was a good episode
Epic episode! I remember visitng Vegas and going to OPM in Ceasers and I couldn't believe that club was smack in the middle of the forum shops! Music bumping all through the forum shops with a huge line. And I'm pretty sure I've bought Vinyl from Five at HHS. It didn't hit me until it was mentioned he worked there and it just clicked even after watching him play all through covid.
Classic episode. Almost three hours of straight fire 🔥. Brought back lots of memories of living in the bay and partying in Vegas in the 2000s. Great job guys!!!
thanks for this! i haven't watch the Clinton Sparks episode and I don't think I will after seeing and hearing about what was said.
This is one of my favorite episodes! It makes my heart race thinking about those clubs in 2001-2005
Man !! I never been to Vegas but when Warren Peace described Ra club it made me feel so nostalgic of my early djs days when you in a big room and everybody’s dancing, no phone, no table. Good old days
I moved to Las Vegas in 2001 and bounced in almost every club. Risqué in the Paris, Light, Rain, Rum Jungle, house of blues, Rehab sunday midday…. ……
Respect to everyone that’s held it down for hip hop in all your cities
Have y'all tried getting DJ P on? I'd love to hear about his history in Vegas and his residencies.
I luv the podcast and a fan if it because of the real topics you guys speak on from a dj perspective. As someone who is a Black American who has been DJing for 40y and resides and spins in Germany for over 30 (still on the regular just not so often weekly lol) , its nice to see others who are pioneers in their respective places get their flowers. It's dope. Definitely doesn't happen over here. Keep up the good content and another great show. Respect
Is there any way, or maybe there already is, to see where all the djs that come through the pod are playing at. An updated list every month or something or even venues 🤔 been following everyone’s socials as I watch each pod but would be great if there was a list so that we can all go support 👀
when Clinton Sparks made that comment Crook was like "well that just lined up three months worth of content"
Get me on this shit asap! Lmao! This was hilarious! 😂🤘
Another good one fellas ✊🏾
Who was DJing at Rehab on Sunday’s ? Pool party was insane!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
31:09. I don’t think it was Club Rio 🤔. They had a club right across from the buffet but I forget the name. Had a beach type vibe to it.. edit, Bikinis was the name
CS was being a total asshat but I personally think you're misinterpreting what he said with the Asian comment. I dont think he pointed out Crooks heritage to say "he's just Asian he ain't shit" he was pointing that out as an example of a core attribute. I feel like he meant it to say that your Asian heritage is something about you that will never change and its it's something that shapes you throughout your life. If you quit DJing to be a podcaster then quit podcasting to be a cowboy, none of that makes your heritage change. He's relating it to living his life in hip hop. He'd saying that he thinks he's hip hop to the core so if he does edm, or becomes a podcaster, or a cowboy that that hiphoo that's ingrained in him isn't going to change. It's not the world's best analogy but I can see what he was going for and I dont think it was to belittle crook. That's just my opinion though.
I agree i think they totally took it the wrong way based off the rest of the interview.
Damn so founding fathers of hip hop don’t matter wow, I’m glad my stepped up and checked that shit
