Don't worry about it. That was the day I rode that set from that platform (after I had filmed this video!). It was the first time I had been on a 158 in six years!
@@ThingsWithEngines trust me, the novelty wears off when its every other day! 😅😅 They're not bad sets for their age though. I like them because you have a door panel at every set of doors and all you need for just about anything on them is a carriage key. The only PA / C-C / PC phone we have is in our cab though, no intermediate phone panels like we have on 170s or the refurbished HST sets . . . So that can be a little annoying.
@@anthonyholroyd5359 what is your favorite train to operate on I personally love the 158s and would love to work on them one day and do you know if they are being replaced any time soon?
They certainly can be. Each one is different however, and each company that owns some has 'refurbished' them differently, and they are now so different to each other that both my best train journey and my worst train journey so far were on a 158! My best journey was on a Northern example which still had the original seats; very plush and comfortable indeed.
I've never been on a 150 before, so I'll have to track one down sometime! I find 158s to be a mixed bag. How good they are depends on which one you get.
I've only been on ScotRail ones and Northern ones. I found unrefurbished Northern ones the best and refurbished Northern ones the worst! Inverness based ScotRail ones are quite nice, and Haymarket based ScotRail ones (like the one in this video) are ok depending on where you sit.
Love the 158’s. Been on a few SWR 159’s as well. Which is the better sounding engine on them though, Cummins or Perkins?... I think for me it has to be the Cummins.
For me the Perkins is more interesting, but that's probably because I'm used to Cummins examples. For sheer meaty-sounding power though, I'd say the Cummins has it.
It's possible, although somehow I'm not seeing it happen. If one were to be preserved however, I would like it to have a Perkins engine and the original seats refitted (they're so comfortable!). In terms of the engines, perhaps one example of each could be kept to make everyone happy?
The T4 bogies on the 158's offer easily the most polished ride of any DMU in the UK, they were way ahead of the game back in the late 80's. The latest stock e.g. Class 195 offer a vastly inferior ride compared to the T4's. Even the Class 170 units which are generally good cannot come close to the ride quality.
Billy A Probarly not. I am an intern at scotrail and they only let people who are qualified operate a train. Or someone who has been accepted by managment
Bluecharlie23 Stuff yea that has been done properly I mean I was just sitting in the drivers seat moving the speed Control thing but it is a quite route but the driver was standing behind me plus the driver behind me was my brother in law.
It’s a very nice refurbished cab, the workers have done a good job giving these a good upgrade.
My favourite train the good priced express feel and lovely engines
I do agree, when fitted with their original seats these are so comfortable.
I've worked that set so many times! I'm a guard based at Perth, so I've worked that set from that very platform on a number of occasions.
That's so good! You don't happen to remember if you operated it on the 13th of February 2019, do you?
@@ThingsWithEngines 2019? Sorry, I dont recall.

I’m so glad a lot more 158s visit Dundee now
Nicer than the newer Turbostars. I seem to remember them being more comfortable and quiet.

Didn't realise these had manufacturer's plaques! "Manufactured by BREL Limited, year 1990"!
I hadn't either until that day. It was quite cool to see!
ua-cam.com/video/cAg2ypxqIvo/v-deo.html just found the original introduction video! keeps getting better haha
Great trains along with 150s

Cummins all the way not keen on Perkins tbh
I love the Cummins noise.
I’ve been in the cab of 158726
That's cool! Was it any different to the cab in this unit?
That set seems a lot cleaner than a set I was lucky to get into! 😂
Oh dear! Then again, this one had just been tidied when I filmed it.
@@ThingsWithEngines probably had😂
We have some in wales but the dot matrix are a bit different
This is one of the Scotrail 158s that has Richmond seating 158726-736, 738-741 have richmonds whereas 158701-725 have grammer seating
Ah Perth! Literally a train journey away!
Quite a bit away from Stonehaven though
@@D.music85 is it though? I mean I guess its an like hour and 30 journey but its still one train away. its a nice trip for a general day out

The headlights shape tho
Yeah... not sure it suits the train very well!
does anyone know why most or all of the ScotRail 158s are like that...?
I'm not sure I'm afraid. Maybe to comply with some piece of updated headlight legislation?
Perth wow I live near there
Perth yay
I didn't realise the cabs were so bare. My car has more buttons lol
Where i live our drivers are very nice they let me drive the train like 20 miles
That is awesome! How did you wangle that?
