    Full review on my IG:
Outschool has been a popular online learning platform for homeschoolers - and now for people with children virtually learning at home. I was hesitant to sign up, but I got a first class free and I loved the first class. Early on we found this Afro-dance class. They have also taken a math class, ballet, lego, multiple random one time princess classes, African history/culture, and reading. Most have been pretty good but this is the only one I have been willing to continually spend money on (two others I will list below I would have stayed with but I decided I could just teach them myself).
Though, whenever I need a free hour or so to take a workcall or something - I head to outschool and put them on a class. Some classes are as low as $8. After 6 months of African dance classes on outschool, the benefits are that the girls are even more confident in their dance moves (if that's possible😂), I've seen them doing the moves when they are dancing on their own, the other kids have also stayed in the class, so they have consistent classmates, they know the NAMES of the dances and the COUNTRIES they are from, and the girls are excited every week.
There are some down sides. If you miss a class, not every teacher will give you a refund. Aphiwe missed a lego class and the teacher just said "watch the recording". I understand if they keep refunding people they will lose money. But it didn't sit right with me. This was also the teacher who didn't notice she was crying in frustration. The class was mostly white and mostly boys - we need to do better people - girls need sciences too! I hope to find another LEGO class. The class had all 5 star reviews.
Also, not all of the teachers are good, even though there's a really hard vetting program - and I think you can even get kicked off if you don't have good reviews (think Etsy but for teaching). One class a teacher I felt was overbearing, another was clearly having a bad day, so she was short and easily annoyed with the kids. But, since I had taken her class before, I knew this was just a one time thing probably - so I kept them in for another two weeks then unenrolled them. As a teacher you do have bad days but you have to try your best to leave that behind and put a smile on, especially with kids under 8.
My aunt passed the vetting and has math classes! I would recommend for anyone who wants their children to pick up specific math skills quickly and wants to engage with the teacher a lot. Right now her class is by request only as she's actively teaching public school! bit.ly/2Pmhg60
This reading class Amahle took was really good, but since she was 4 in a class with 2nd graders, it was too long for her. But the teacher clearly knows what she is doing and is so patient: bit.ly/3uFgCR3
