Welcome to Germany! I hope, you enjoy your stay! If you get the chance, do what you love to do! Travel! (Yeah! I saw your vlog from Italy!) But Germany also has so much beauty to offer! You and your boy friend will love it! Without knowing, what you like, I would recommend the Rhein tours. Or A few days in Munich. Central parts of Germany have their flair, too! If you like to go skiing, then Winterberg would be the place to go! ( If you don´t want to go to the Alps!) Have a nice stay! Hope to see your next vlog, soon!

Have a great time. The apartment looks lovely. Maybe put some pictures on the wall, also maybe bed throws.

    Willkommen in Deutschland.
No matter where you are in Germany, I hope you will have a wonderful time.
Germans tend to be a bit stand-offish. It's not that we want to be cold, we just don't want to bother you, and we really believe in privacy.
If you do need help with something, just ask. Most if not all Germans will be more than willing to help you in any way.
Hopefully you won't get hit too hard by homesickness.
Don't forget Germany has 230V current if you have some electrical devices from the USA.
The high ceilings will help a LOT in summer as you won't have AC in most German appartments. But high ceilings and tall windows will help in keeping cool(er) in summer.
If you don't mind repairing the ceiling when you move out you might screw in a few hooks with "Dübel" (a fixture invented here in Germany). That will help in creating more storage as you can hang baskets, pots, etc from the ceiling. If you want to, you can even attach some string and pulley systems to these hooks so can pull them up to the ceiling to get them out of the way.
Butter: in Germany there are basically only unsalted butters. Buuuutt you can get Sauerrahmbutter or standard butter. Sauerrahmbutter is made from sour cream instead of fresh skimmed cream. Thus it has a slight tang to it compared to standard butter. Obviously any kind of spreadable fat is available if you look long enough in the right shops.

Just fyi that's not exactly butter. It's butter spread so it's actually butter mixed with canola oil. My recommendation would be to switch to buying pure butter as that canola oil is really bad nutritionally

I don't know if you've already talked about this, but can you make a video talking about how you made the move (visas, etc)? I'm a recent grad too and studied abroad in Germany and have my heart set on making a move.

Isabella B I definitely plan on staying abroad for a while after my internship ends, but it depends on where I go for grad school (if I go to grad school!) if not, I would probably work full time somewhere in germany! and thank you!! 😊

I'm guessing it's around 500 euros per month. At least an apartment this size would cost something like that in my city (I'm from Germany)

It depends a lot on where you want to live, there are large differences between cities like Munich and living somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
If you speak German (or just use a translator):
      www.zeit.de/wirtschaft/2019-11/mietpreise-steigerung-mietspiegel-wohnungsnot-gemeinden
In 2019 the average new rent per square meter was 17,51€ in Munich, in Cologne it was 11,13€, in Berlin 10,49€. In Dresden it was only 7,76€ per square meter and 7,08€ in Leipzig (both cities in the east).
And in Borgentreich in the middle of nowhere between Paderborn and Göttingen it was only 3,93€ per square meter which was the lowest average new rent per square meter in 2019.
