That's why I love my Reykjavik Eyes glasses. Definitely no spring hinges and so comfortable to wear 👍
Me too
Yes. But you need high- refractory index lenses even with low-prescription lenses.
Which means much lower Abbe number, and much higher cost.
Unless you go mineral lenses. But then, you cannot have most coatings, Blue-light protection, and the likes.
What was happening in the iPhone is that they were throttling the CPU depending on how healthy is your battery with every recycle the capacity of the battery decreases
Just learned a new term and helpful advice, thanks Robert!
You're welcome!
Oh good - I’m not the only one who didn’t know what it meant ☺️
I have a Bvlgari 18-year old frame (I guess Bvlgari wasn't Luxottica then...) with spring hinges. I am changing it now, but the springs have not failed. I have worn it everyday.
I have a pair of titanium Police frames with spring hinges, since 2011, wear them with same lenses all day long, play basket, go to the gym, swim even in salt water. They are still ok.
planned obsolescence or not people also change up their frames because they want a new look. feels like style change is the number one motivator for buying new glasses vs it failing.
Glasses looking good x
Thanks Mel!
With spring hinges I make sure to rarely expand the temple arms. Basically to me they're there to make taking them off slightly more comfortable. I don't pull them wide for fun. Maybe it helps I have a tiny head
Yeah, that's fine! Using them in such a way is why the spring hinge was developed in glasses. In theory, it can be a really good thing but most people do abuse their frames, unfortunately.
What is the manufacturing cost of each hinge type? How does this compare to retail price?
How interesting. I have thought about this actually. If you wear a plastic frame daily, how long should they last do you think on average?
Lots of factors, but a hand made, high quality acetate frame with good hinges and (most importantly as it reduces stress on the frame) fitted properly can last over 10 years
Oh and if treated well of course
@@thespectaclefactory How durable Stainless steel frames are, compared to the acetate frames?
What about my Tom Ford frames? They were very expensive but use a spring hinge!
Unfortunately, TF are very overpriced and cost very little to produce
Hi there, great video. What's the tint on your own glasses?
Hi! Thank you :) It's called pistachio - 25%green-10%rose, one of our custom tints
German cars also have planned obsolescence
Who makes eye glass frames that don't fail like that? Any there eye glass frames that are robust and durable?
what glasses are you wearing in the video
Yeah that's a bunch of BS, yes anything and everything will eventually break but how long will it take? 90% of people don't keep their glasses long enough to wear the hinge out.
