Important note: for this video I've made the decision to remove all of the dialogue. This is for several reasons (slows down the pace massively, hard to read text, poetic verses that don't add anything). However, the main reason I removed it is that hearing cosmic entities speak perfect English totally breaks my immersion in the world.
I hope you like the choice I made, but if you're interested in hearing the original dialogue. I've uploaded a separate video you can check out here: • Necrophosis - The Dial...

However, the main reason I removed it is that hearing cosmic entities speak perfect English breaks the immersion in the world (hopefully it gets changed to something more inhuman in the full game).

Everyone knows cosmic entities are fans of Shakespeare silly!
You did the right thing! Games like this should be told with visuals, not "English words". Bravo!
@@Fayrus_Fuma remember distinctly that I was in anticipation for De-Exit, but hardly followed it after it came out because the presence of voice-over greatly ruined the whole experience for me
The experience is definitely better without dialogue, it makes it more mystical and unsettling while focus can be aimed more towards the surroundings. If the dialogue voiceover is better in the released game that's going to be awesome.
I can't help but think this game is a bit inspired by Scorn too, while Scorn is also clearly inspired by Beksinski. The game looks really cool so I hope the developers will be able to finish it!
As a content showcase channel it seems disingenuous to change the original game's artistic vision just because you think it should be a different way/don't like it. Either curate impartially or don't bother.
Three parts Beksinski, two parts Giger, and one part Barlowe.
Now if they could sprinkle a lil bit of Hieronymus Bosch in there...
Barlowe?
@@pabloortiz Wayne Barlowe. Among many other things, he's done concept art for Hellboy, Avatar, and other movies, as well as some really rad illustrations and books describing alien planets and hell. Really cool stuff.
@@whackedoutpoobrain I remember the first time I learned about Wayne Barlowe years ago. Saw a copy of Barlowe's Guide To Extraterrestrials on a shelf in a bookstore, and I was captivated.
Mix but don't shake
This is pretty much an adaptation of Beksinski paintings into a video game, what an outstanding work they did!
This is what I was going to type too.
I feel like the world this establishes is a lot different than Scorn’s in tone - where exploring Scorn’s world is depressing and bleak, exploring Necrophosis’s world gives more of an macabre but wondrous vibe.
Scorn was also more blatantly cold and malevolent, but Necrophosis seems oddly benevolent? Like, this world isn’t fleshy and evil, it’s just the nature of the thing
scorn was shit
If you showed aliens, an omelet, they would see us eating a stirred, cooked and seasoned placenta, that's what this game is kinda like.
@@youneverknow111no u
@@youneverknow111scorn is amazing
If not benevolent then far more "guiding"
Alas- I do hope the developers will flesh out the ideas to be inspired rather than seeming ripped off- several parts present in the demo look way too ripped from Scorn, I mainly talk about the player character and the pedestal creature they rode to the entrance.
The game is still quite underbaked so improvements should not be hard- I just hope it won't stay as it is due to looking way too cheap for what it could be.

Oh hey guys! Good luck developing this game! Oh and while scorn is pure depression, can you make one of the present themes nesasary suffering?
For example going to the gym when you don’t want to, studying for a big test when all you want to do is laze about, and finally like being disciplined by your father with a lesson you learn the true meaning of in time?
Thanks dude’s and remember!

I like to imagine that somewhere out there, there is a world like this. Where their alien culture is so heavy on beautifying death and decay that their landscape looks reflects it. Giant skyscrapers carved from mountains and idol lined paths chipped from canyons. It truly is its own beauty
It being a slow moving, slowly progressing, slow animation walking sim, this seems like the kinda game I'll be watching people play. But not playing myself.
This game feels like its on another location in the Scorn universe, it looks good
good bit of Giger here too, but much less so than the Beksinski. Kinda a reverse ratio to Scorn's balance of the two.
that looks soooooo much like scorn , even "character" design and such
Scorn didnt invent this style
@@ShacoPLsure, but the main character looks almost exactly like the one from scorn
The style of this game resembling scorn is not a bad thing
@@ShacoPL the main character looks exactly like the Scorn one. I'm ok with the style, as it is more Beksinski and less Giger, with some more generic skeleton/skull designs thrown in there. But the main character design is just too similar to Scorn. I really hope that they will redesign it.
Zdzislaw Beksinski is one of if not my most favorite painter in horror themes. I even made a presentation on him. I hope to achieve such level of artistry someday. His usage of colors were truly masterful
haha good luck!
That presentation deserves to be shared

@@ZabbathMakesArt Hello there!
I've woken up in worse places with worse entities not gonna lie.
You know Holly too?
Portal be like
Earth is pretty bad ngl
Being a sci-fi book writer, I can relate when you wrote: "the main reason I removed it is that hearing cosmic entities speak perfect English totally breaks my immersion in the world."
That is one of the main reasons I hate when Hollywood adapts ancient languages to english, dumbing-down the dialogue so "everyone could watch equally". Totally un-immersive. If you are gonna talk about aliens, they probably won't speak english, but some sort of direct mind communication that do not even use words in order to be understood.
Wel I disagree. Then everything would have subtitles. They must speak in a language we hope to perceive and english is it.
There is a pretty similar concept to this, I forgot where, I think it was one of HP Lovecraft's Old God Pantheons. That they are essentially a globules of flesh, but they look like humans because that is what they want them for you to see, when in reality, they are the most vile looking thing in existence.
@@FoxyPercival714 What is wrong with subtitles? That is a small price to pay in order to enjoy a bigger, wider universe and experience new sides of narratives. As a minor example, I don't live in North America but I watch a ton of Hollywood movies, and always giving preference to the original audio + subtitles instead of picking our local dubbed version, which breaks half of the fun right from the start. When creating new species, when adapting old languages, stick to their costumes and spoken dialects... adapting kills the mood.
But then, this is just my opinion, and everybody can have theirs. As long as they have fun watching, that's what matters.
@@Xport9 Ah yes, but you see, Lovecraft (one of my biggest inspirations and references when writing) has found a masterful way to adapt humans to his Miskatonic / Chthullu Mythos universe. As far as the Old Ones goes, they still have a good method of being heard in english, and Lovecraft explain how and why these gods can be heard and understood by mortal minds.
Its all about finding a method of explaining, keeping the "Lore" intact.
Apocalypto was good
I know this Painter because of a video by "semydeus" (Or demygod) about cursed paintings
And now I'm loving this polish painter works
Didn't Beksinski insist, that his paintings were meant to be "uplifting" ?
@@bigleciezki Beksinski didn't put meaning behind his paintings. Hence why he never named them. "Meaning is meaningless to me. I do not care for symbolism and I paint what I paint without meditating on a story." were his very words. However, his background, growing up in WWII Poland, held by both Nazis and Soviets, may have spurred that stuff
Caraio... Não imaginei que ia encontrar um BR aqui, ainda mais um fã do semydeus.
This looks neat. Perhaps a bit too derivative of Scorn. Yes, I know they're both inspired by the same art (and I'm a huge Beksinski fan), but what I mean is the design of the character, the initial setup (being dropped onto the ground with similar animations), etc. After watching the unlisted video, I can see why the dialogue killed your immersion. I actually really like the vague poetry. Seems like it would be a cool thing to unpack, but the giant spooky monster man is really just a british dude, and that does kill it a little bit.
Yeah, the British accent was weird! I also couldn't understand why this cosmic entity who lives in a place billions of years in the future (from the Steam description) was quoting 20th century Earth poetry (Ozymandias by Percy Shelley for example) to another non-earthling creature. I think all of the dialogue needs to be reworked to make more sense (or just removed). I do really like the game though. The artwork is excellent and I'm looking forward to exploring more of its fascinating world.
Scorn is just derivative of Giger
@@jabbadesilijictiure2937The main character looks so similar to that of Scorn I initially assumed they had just ripped the asset straight from the game they were ‘inspired’ by.

Watched about half of the video, then thought better of it and downloaded the demo to experience it myself. Not into walking sims but Beksinski is one of my favorite artists and the demo was a beautifully grim journey. I definitely look forward to playing the full game.

Unlike most people think Scorn was inspired by H.R. Giger it was Zdzislaw Beksinski- i followed the Scorn development quiet a while. I was so impressed by his art, i bought his Artbook hardcover.
This game therefore seems so similar.
ok but Scorn has a Space Jockey and the color palette is very Giger (grey, dark, greenish)
5:55 that "nope" there is the most fitting reaction to what you just experienced.
Man, it's so good to see biopunk gaining more space in the gaming world, I hope more games with this style are released in the future.

Best part is the end when he reveals it was only a DEMO!
The nightmarish otherwold has a better medicare than Poland. Eyes or brains replaced with no waiting times, just like that.
The entire background is like a fever dream
At 6:36 I immediately said, "Oh, that's JUST the Space Jockey from Alien."
So far, this demo seems pretty promising. I like how Beksinski's art is integrated here. All seems very familiar, yet very alien at the same time. I personally like to imagine this is not an alien world, but something like Limbo/Purgatory since almost every character represented here is human-looking, there is a mention of Ozymandias (Greek name for Ramesses II) and Khnum (Egyptian god of Nile flood and creator of humanity), and that caped entity stated that the place is "a reliquary of the past" while showing skyscraper-like buildings looming over the horizon. Think of it as Agony game, but it went with soulslike dialogue, with actually comprehensible (and vaguely friendly) environment and without seggsual content. It's probably the reason why characters in game speak English and in poetry too.
wow nice guess my friend :)
I'm having aprehension about this game due to how close it looks like Scorn.
Not because Scorn is a pinacle, but because nobody likes total copycats- you can be inspired by the same artwork and still be distinct and unfortuantelly right now Necrophosis has way too many assets that look like taken stright from Scorn.
The gameplay and pacing also seem VERY similar. If you showed me this and told me it was Scorn, I'd believe you.
I'm fine with just a non-violent walking simulator with some story thrown in with this world. It looks gorgeous.
Polish Scorn sure hits different.
Wow. This demo was stunningly beautiful. I can't wait to see the finished product!
Florida is looking rough these days.
HOLY! I love the sound design in this game. They sound all too gross. I love it.
Interesting project. Definitely gives Agony / Scorn vibes. I have to say, I'm a little bit disappointed you cut out all the dialogue because without it, it seems like several puzzles just don't have any kind of reward to them. I'd be interested to hear what the world has to say about itself, even if it is 'telling' rather than 'showing'.
Hi! Yeah, that's understandable. There's a video link in my pinned comment that contains the dialogue. I honestly don't think it adds very much to the experience though.
This is awesome, what Scorn should've been.
That space jockey was a lil silly lol
i think the space jockey in its inception is silly. the painting is silly

Not what I meant.
Giger is wet and phallic, beksinski is dead and rusted.
This is a completely different style by a different man.
Yeah we all know giger but you are making a beksinski game no need for this ham fisted easter egg 2 minutes in.

my favorite painter ever. if you like beksinski i suggest checking out his biopic "The Last Family" (2018)
This, is pretty close to what I picture in viewing the nightmare artists' work. 🖤🥠👾🐰
Thank you for removing the dialogue. Someone on a different video mentioned it, but the voices sound lifeless. Wouldn't be surprised if they were AI generated to be honest.
Thinking on that now, that would make for an interesting trait for a monster that's supposed to invoke the uncanny valley.
I will say that they should also vary the foley work a bit - there's just too many squishy meat noises in the current build. It could really stand to include some other sounds.
Not even non-organic sounds, even! They could totally use noises that evoke skin sliding against skin, the little 'click' of an eye blinking, plant stalks being bent or stretched, etc, etc.
Just for example, I'll use the little urn-homunculus the player picks up at around 5:00. The sound of picking it up should be more leathery, or even like stone rasping against stone, rather than the viscerally, incongruously _wet_ sound effect they use. Save that for when the player 'uncorks' it.
I cannot believe i live in the age of the Scornlike
The Scorn sequel set in Mexico
Oh Scorn sequel just dropped
@ the end: the problem with being too open-minded is that you might lose your head, as demonstrated here
Beksinski's works weren't meant to evoke horror even if they are unsettling at times. This game and world would work best if maybe it starts as a horror game but slowly shows that the world is kind, warm, and welcoming, just different and once the player is able to understand that, things calm down.
I watch Beksinski's early 3d digital works and cannot stop thinking he would definetly try create something like this game if he would manage to get this game development tools.
Seems lika spiritual sequel of Scorn with more Beksinski vibes with a touch of Barlowe. Seems lovely

Congrats to the devs! Would love to see more of this for sure. My feedbacks are, atmosphere could be much more dense, and stronger. Also, I might not be your target audience but for gameplay, in it's current state it feels like you invite the player to constantly find puzzle pieces to progress one small step further, I think it would be much better if we slowly progressed as we "got lost" in the world and atmosphere to experience it while being subtly led through the environment. To me otherwise just leads the focus to finding the next piece of puzzle, where I can find it, etc, rather than paying attention the world. But since in the end it all comes to what kind of a game you want to make and for that, it seems you are doing great ^^ I just think it has a lot of potential in the other end of the gameplay spectrum too, just like Journey :)
