This style of jewellery and craftsmanship is very common in the Indian state of West Bengal. If I didn't know this person was Nepali, I'd have thought this was being made somewhere in Bengal. To make light weight 22/24k gold jewellery, goldsmiths often insert the lac/beeswax permanently inside the bangle so that it doesn't dent. At the time of purchase, the piece is hollowed out and only the gold weight is calculated. Post this, the lac is refilled and then delivered to the customer.
Nepal is not really that far from West Bengal! They are neighbors. Very similar language and manys imilar food habits.
I wondered what he stuffed into the bangle and why. So fascinating to watch.
Weight taken empty to know actual gold weight...Then should be stuffed to avoid dent and make it more sturdy...Great craftsmanship...
