    Great reminder to be hard on pruning with deciduous trees. I think the first 12 years of my bonsai days were a waste. I had no idea of how to build ramification and was afraid to take off any branches. This summer I really struggled to keep on top of the pruning process so will still have a lot of cutting back to do. Definitely 1 step forward and 3 back!! Really keen to learn more about carving as it is the next stage of my development. I have the tools but am yet to turn the power on :)

    Nice tree, man, and to think you grew that from a seedling in 5 years. Obviously, your growing season is a lot longer than mine. Haha!! Lookin forward to seeing the next video of it.

    Could be a Damson plum (or sloe), those twig-like "thorns" are pretty distinctive, but there might be other types that have them. I guess you are gonna find out when it flower/fruits!

    I ordered my first 2 Ume trees recently (gonna be used as Japanese garden trees though). Can’t wait to get them! 🌸
    Only 2-3 years old though... long skinny trunk, 5’ tall. Hope it won’t take too long to become nice and mature.

    Hi Sam, your. Videos are bloody awesome mate. Once I finish watching I go and take care of my bonsai and starter plants. BTW where do you get your stock trees from? They are first hard to find and second bloody expensive in sydney. Anyways, another inspiring video mate.

    • @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke
      @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke  5 років тому +1

      Cheers mate look after those guys. Great fun and great for your health. As far as stock I grew some in the ground. Also ask neighbors and friends. You'll be surprised what people dig up. Maybe the dump on a Saturday and ask people when they dug the trees they ditch in the dump. If less than 2 days take it home and give it a go 😂😂I dont have much money so I always find cheap things 😉😉. Cheers for the watch and comment mate

    Hey boss! How's the orange jesamine going? ... bloke to bloke.. love this style of video step by step rather then the usual hyper lapse 🤙
    Would love to know what is the after care of all the dig ups from the old house, I've been collecting a bunch of trees from the field with the missus on our walks but struggling to keep em alive
    Love your work mate! keep it up 👌

    • @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke
      @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke  6 років тому +1

      Hi mate cheers for the feedback. Looks like the general consensus is more talk less hyper 😉😉.
      For these they are all deciduous and all dug late winter. They will now all go in full sun and be kept moist. Regardless of the species they will get the same treatment. Out of these 13 I imagine at least 10 and maybe all will survive. Keep you updated. As for evergreen it varies. Some don't like it at all and will nearly always die. Some will always live ie. Olives.
      Olives can go in full sun. Others like juniper need misting. Some evergreen broadleaf will lose all its leaves and then reshoot. Even the olive. Just have to Google the species. As for deciduous if done when dormant all are tough and have a good chance 😁😁.

    • @TyroneSchwarz
      @TyroneSchwarz 6 років тому +2

      Thank you so much for taking the time to reply brother, really appreciate it!
      I've been keeping them moist in part sun, mainly shade and getting a lot of rot occurring...
      Will definitely keep em in full sun now!
      Last question... I promise 😂 how long from the cut back, root prune and repot will we see new growth?
      In short how long till we know if she's made it, or carked it?
      I'm guessing deciduous and evergreens vary?
      Love your work bloke! keep it up 👍🏽

    • @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke
      @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke  6 років тому +1

      Hi mate. It's no worries at all. Evergreen can sulk for a long long time. There have been a couple olives that have stayed green under the bark but not shot for a year. In general though within 4 months they should shoot. Deciduous trees should shoot bu mid spring or they are probably stuffed. Having said that though if they are still green under the bark then keep trying 😁😁

    What do you reckon about indoor bonsai? Would love one, any particular trees that work well? Im in se Queensland, my neighbor has a willow leaf ficus bonsai that spends about half its time inside and looks pretty good. What about ficus microcarpa? Just got one from nursery. I don't wanna jinx it but i reckon my murraya is gonna live, 2 weeks since brutal repot, hasnt dropped any leaves yet, plus spring has just spring, first rain in couple months, fingers crossed it lives.
