Is this the end of the US dollar for good? Well, that might be if China and Russia ever get their way. And the way they are possibly intending to do this, has everything to do with gold.
For most of human history, gold or silver has been used as a backing for currency. Even in the case where humans used less valuable coins or notes for trade -- like in the early British pound or ancient Chinese paper money -- these items were always backed by an equivalent amount of something real. However, this changed in 1971, when the US dollar was pulled off the gold standard. Meaning for the last half a decade, no money had any ties to a tangible thing of value.
But this could be all about to change. As a new partnership between China and Russia means that there has been a lot of under-the-table gold dealing, as well as the possibility of a new global reserve currency created by BRICS that could be backed by gold.

@@mynameisneb That would make it a stable coin. How would you digitize assets? You need to cover "all the money". To suggest something like that Gold would have to be prices at millions per ounce. Then of course other metals like silver would be 8:1, the rate it comes out of the ground minus whats used in production.
What will likely happen is each country will create their own CBDC then later on start backing with with their local commodities like the Saudi coin will be oil, here in Canada Maple Syrup/beer/communism and the US endless wars and hegemony.
I can only suggest that if you havent, look into coins like XRP or any ISO20022 compliant crypto. I am super bias with XRP that also can be used without the internet, xPoP that could come in handy on the cusp of WWlll.

A little respect fellas. Sorelle, the dollar is still very strong in the world. Weakened yes and in trouble do to the 32 trillion in debt. Gold backed currency in the BRICS nations, to me, I believe means they distrust each other in the BRICS. More about they distrust one another rather than lets destroy the dollar. Although China wants to dominate, the dollar is not in danger of being extinct.

Can anyone tell me the reasons for the loss of purchasing power whilst the US dollar was backed by gold from 1930 to 1970. Genuinely interested as I thought the main issue was that mass money printing allowed because the gold standard was removed. But according to the chart used the US Dollar lost as much purchasing pre the gold standard.

After Bretton Woods, countries gave the US gold for US dollars, to be able to trade with the US (the new economic superpower). Meanwhile, the US just printed US dollars to buy things like oil (apparently the gold standard was just for other countries). Mass money printing always eventually results in inflation, AKA loss of purchasing power, but who cares? Just print more! In the 60's some countries were not cool with this and wanted their gold back, but there wasn't enough gold! To avoid this embarrassing situation, Nixon ended the convertibility of dollars back into gold. Problem solved.

A gold standard only works if you stick to it. The US didn't, and printed far more money than they had actual gold reserves to back that money. Other countries started to figure this out and so exchanged their dollars for gold as fast as they could. This caused the US gold reserves to drop critically low, and produced inflation as all that money came back into the US economy.
In 1971 Nixon eventually realized that the jig was up and that the US would soon run out of gold. He was basically forced to then take the US off the gold standard. This screwed over everybody who still had US dollars, because the dollar price of gold went through the roof (which is the same as saying that the gold value of the dollar fell through the basement). People who had accepted US dollars at $35/oz of gold found that they could only get 1/10th of that when they tried to actually do the exchange. The US had effectively committed the single greatest act of financial fraud in history.

There is no chance of the BRICS toppling the US Dollar. Perhaps one day it will be toppled but they are not going to do it and nor is the Euro. Before then we may see some sort of multi-polar world with a few different competing currencies. Although that will be difficult for the simple reason that single currencies do not work. It is better to have more currencies in the world than fewer for all the different countries and economic regions of the world that have different needs and circumstances. It is very difficult to get vastly different countries to agree on giving up control and forming a single currency. Even if you can do that it is then very difficult to keep such a flawed idea and currency going.

The Russian "peacekeepers" all fled. Furthermore, in Armenia, the Russian "peacekeepers" again fled and failed to protect Armenia who lost a lot of territory to Azerbaijan backed by Turkey. Russia is being greatly embarrassed in Ukraine in a second war they instigated and are now losing badly. They have lost over 140,000 of their best full-time trained regulars and are now relying on ordinary citizens and prisoners as cannon fodder to keep Putin and his ego in power a bit longer after their disastrous military operation.
China is only out for itself. It has alliances with nobody except perhaps for North Korea who they tolerate. China engages in debt trap diplomacy all over the world which is creating more enemies for them not friends. China just like Russia is often left red-faced and embarrassed when they attack countries they perceive to be smaller or weaker militarily and lose badly. India is only concerned with their own issues and they themselves often get embarrassed when attacked by other countries. Their leaders prefer to do Yogi in tights while being attacked. The Saudis are just playing part of the game. It is well known that they are not fans of the Democrats and Biden administration with good reason. That will all change in 2024. The Saudis know they will not be able to rely on Russia or China militarily. There really is only one option for them.

Sorelle. One thing i am having trouble understanding is the role of gold and CBDC. Russia and China are ahead of most countries when it comes to CBDC. The treasury of the British government are advertising for someone to be Head Of Central Bank Digital Currency as i write this. It is said Britain could be running a form of CBDC by 2024, Russia and China Are already running pilot schemes, so what role will gold play in all of this ? CBDC are just a form of digital ones and noughts, how can you link those to gold.
I have been moving money into metals for a few years because i knew CBDC was coming; and you could lose a lot of money if they crash the banks to bring it in. But when that has happened what do i do with that metal ? What will i exchange it for ? to who ? at what rate and what will it be fixed on ? Or will you only be able to exchange it for some noughts and ones from the Central Bank, at their exchange rate ? Which kind of defeats the whole object of the exercise.

Regarding bartering in general, how much gold would you give for a loaf of bread ? and if the baker accepted it what would he do with it, pay his bills ? I don't think it will be that easy to barter with metal and i think gold and silver will in effect be worthless to the general public. Governments will hoard gold to pay other governments for arms etc. but i am coming to the conclusion it will be useless to us plebs. We could end up selling it to the Central bank at a low premium because they know we are stuck with it.

So, the problems with BRICS and any theoretical currency they attempt to produce is that there is no true economic cohesion between these nations. They aren't each other's primary trade partners, they aren't geographically collocated with each other like the EU, and and they have yet to agree on any centralized policy. The simple fact is, likely no single one of these nations trusts the other enough to subject themselves to a collective monetary policy, and that is before you get into the inherent nationalism of Russia thinking they should use the Ruple, while China would want them to use Yuan. Basically, I couldn't see these guys agreeing on pizza toppings, much less a comprehensive fiscal policy. Plus, the video is kind of glossing over one of the primary reasons that the U.S. dollar is currently used as a global currency, force projection. The rest of the world's navies combined are less than 10% the strength of the United States Navy. The U.S. got its reputation as the world's policeman because it basically governed international waters for 70 years to ensure that nations had access to secure trade. No other Nation on Earth is currently capable of that level of force projection. And history has shown us (and America has been on the other side of this a couple of times as well, we used the British Pound as our international currency through a good chunk of the 1800s) that the current Hegemony tends to be the dominant international currency.

One thing I'd like to add is it all has to do with the geopolitics and indeed the BRICS and so many other countries can no longer stand the atrocities the US government has been doing around the world since the end of WW2 and even more appallingly since it became the world's sole superpower with the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991. The US has been able to do whatever it wants to do without too much consequence thanks to their secret weapon the US$ hence why the first thing those countries who want to stop/challenge the US' sole superpower status is to get themselves less dependent on the US$ and to do so they have to start with removing the "Petro dollar" status (i.e. US$ as the main currency to trade oil and other main commodities). Currencies, gold, etc. are only tools to obtain/maintain power. Look up how many wars the US has waged around the world since the end of WW2 that they use to maintain their US$ as the world's most dominant currency. Another contributing factor why many countries want to challenge the US' sole superpower status is the domestic cultural & political shift within the US itself e.g. woke ideology, identity politics, extreme capitalism, and so on and so forth... instead of looking up to the US as the big brother who help them establish democratic societies that eventually improve living standards, many countries realise the US in conjunction with the global elitists have simply served their own self interest & greed through neo-colonialism / neo-feudalism.
