  • Deal's History Part 1 This a remake of the original, as I was not happy with the first one, this being my first attempt to make a video, the remake has a far better story and is better to watch, its a short history on myself and family with a few other stories including the Storm of 1978, and lots of pictures of old Deal in Kent UK, view my other Deal History Films on UA-cam, also there are more stories and lots of pictures on my website, just type my name "David Skardon" into your browser to find it. My thanks go to everyone that donated pictures for this film and Bensound for their lovely music
I hope you enjoy watching the history of the past.

Hi David, my Grandad Bob Abel lived on Coppin Street. I spent my childhood there and lots of fun memories helping my Grandad with the cockles and winkles! I live in Canada now but when I do come home to Deal I always walk along Coppin Street re-living memories. Thank you for your History of Deal, my birth town and my Grandad being a very good fisherman and boat builder.

I fished the pier the night before the storm of 1978. My grandmother went to clean the Lloyds bank the morning after the storm and waded through the water at the bottom of South Street to get there. Came home from the school and went to see the devistation on the beach that you cleaned up. It was such a shock to see the boats broken and damaged. Thanks for sharing.

So glad to have stumbled on your channel. I was born in Bromley in 1944 and we moved to Deal in 1953. My father was the manager of Mence Smiths on the high Steet and we lived above. The International and Harris Mays on one side and a tobacconist run by 2 ladies whose names I forget on the other side. I went to the Methodist School then Deal secondary School on Mill Road. I remember the Uptons, Dr Hall the life boat doctor who my mother didn't like because of his drinking! We probably crossed paths many times before I enlisted in the RAF in 1960. I used to visit on leave until emigrating to Australia in 1981, then in 2018 moved to the Philippines. As a kid I loved Deal, but by god it was cold at times. I'm going to watch part 2 now, thanks for the uploads.

As always, a unique personal history of Deal from one of the few remaining boatmen. A crucial part of the town's rich past recorded for future generations. Thank you Dave.

Beautifully crafted presentation, wholesome and heart warming.
I reside in Sondes Road and 'The Timeball Tower' graces the top of the road.
    Everything about this is superb...
The narration, background music, visuals are spot on, just amazing!!
Would love a pint and a chat one day in the future when we are back to being human beings!
You seem to possess so much knowledge and I want to learn ALL I can about my beautiful adoptive home.

I am a Londoner, born in 1942. We Londoners spent a lot of time in Kent, The garden of England for our holidays. The BEST fish and chips in England are to be had in Deal. Greetings from the Philippines

Hello there. My Great Father Johnathan Burr was a "Waterman" in Deal around 1920s His Wife Elizabeth Hayward married late in life. She was 54, he 26. I think likely my Grandmother and her two siblings were adopted. Both members of St Amdrews Church.
Much appreciated History doco, thankyou. Love that little Town.

Thank you for this, David. As I live in nearby Sandwich, I often like to walk through the streets of "Old Deal" and imagine what people got up to in the past. This certainly helps! Being a musician, I feel the underlying music could be improved. The repetition of the same couple of bars drives me bonkers!

Thanks for your comment I'm glad you like the films, they take an avarage of 4 weeks at 3 hrs a day to make a 10 minute film, a time consuming task, thats without writing the script which changes as I start to produce them, but I enjoy doing them and hopefulling its keeping history alive for future generations. I agree the music can be daunting, but its free with no copyright, as I dont get any funds or income from my productions, I cannot buy music for them, if I did get funds it would all go to Dementia and the Lifeboat charities, but profit is not my aim, its history for future generations.
If you have any ideas for music for future productions or would like to write a piece and donate it I would be very grateful, and as you say it would improve the listening capability, and I'm always up for suggestions and improvement. 90% of the pictures are donated from people all over the world as well.
      Thanks for your suggestions you can contact me via my website here;
      davidskardon.wixsite.com/skardons-world
All suggestions of free music appreciated, more films are ready for release, from stories having been submitted by Old Deal folk, it would be nice to have some quality music if you have any sugestions.

@@davidskardon4204 I´m pleased that more videos about Deal are planned. Here is a link to a site which may be helpful: techwiser.com/free-background-music-for-youtube-videos. Unfortunately, I was a professional opera singer, not a composer LOL. Good luck with the search!
