"Dad, could I borrow the car.?" has a totally different aspect behind it in the Perkins house. Legends.
Hahaha not wrong there!! Cheers!!!
Thanks for that. Larry is in a very small group of drivers many consider truly legendary.
Cheers!
Not a car guy regularly but these cars are just works of art, Australia at heart is this car, beautiful stuff.
Many thanks!!
A piece of rolling history
Not wrong there! Cheers!!
@perkinsengineering you should still be racing Mr Perkins, miss your bumper cars at the middle of the pack.
Jack , thankyou !
Thankyou and you father for bringing joy to so many people.
Keep up the good work.
True ambassadors of motor racing history. Alot of it which is stuck in museums... . My white Vk grp A is driven daily and based on your dads ENZED commodore.
How l wish you bring that car back ...
Thanks! One of the ENZED cars was also on track at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival, PE 002! The other, PE001, is nearing restoration!! Cheers
Best sounding car out there gotta love the sweet roar of the larry iron lion. Iconic well done jack in bringing this car back.
Sounds ace doesn't it! Cheers!!
Amazing upload, I'm envious that you get to enjoy your Dad's weapon of a V8 Supercar. What a beast. Thank you so much for bringing it to Adelaide. It looked (and sounded) brilliant on track. We saw you in the pit area at the AMF but didn't want to bother you. I hope you had a top weekend mate. Please, bring the mighty Castrol VP Commodore back in 2025!
Many thanks, you should always say hello! Cheers!
Jack, loved the blips for the crowd, the dancing feet shown using all three pedals, heel and toeing, biceps pumping the steering, totally nostalgic in a beautifully restored machine… Tip my hat to you 😊😊
Haha yeah all in 30+ degree Adelaide heat = hard work!!! Cheers!!!
Man throughly enjoyed that Jack! Your old man is a legend just like Brock was!!
Cheers!
Hi Jack, Jamie from Newcastle, what can you say those cars of the Shell Australian Touring Car days are the best, well done mate, you have held the Perkins Engineering name high in lights again.
"Perkins by the country mile" 👍🇭🇲
They definitely are!! Cheers!!!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again you should be proud of yourself as you have done an absolutely amazing job of restoring the car! I don’t know if Larry would have let too many people past though😂😂 just shows the gentleman you are and not wanting to ruin all your hard work! Well done again!
Many thanks, Cheers!!!
So good seeing this and many other incredible cars in the flesh at the AMF!
The champ winning cars doing their show was one of the top highlights of the weekend!
Hope to so it there again next year
Cheers!!!
Watching all the build , Larry at Calder in her , now yourself in her Jack geezs , i think a lot will agree Watching them on tv lap after lap for 30 years we take it for granted , i honestly enjoyed this video more than this years Bathurst sprints.
Thankyou Jack loved it
Look forward to the next one.
Many thanks! Cheers!!!
A great event.Thanks for coming.
Great to hear a Strong Holden V8. I can still tell them in a crowd and they always sound great.
A very cool event indeed, Cheers!!!
Revving it for the fans...love it.
Crowd turn out was incredible!
What a car...what a legend!
Cheers!
Thanks Jack 👍 Must have been so tempted to get on it 😁
Always tempted!!!!
Sensational Jack. Aussie V8 symphony.
Cheers!!
Was a brilliant weekend, hope you enjoyed it Jack
It was a great weekend, great event. Cheers!!
Hey Jack,
I have been following this build for ages now on here. I was hoping you guys were going to bring it to the AMF. To be able to get close to the car in the pits and then see the car doing what it does best was great. Credit to all involved with the build and the AMF itself, what an absolutely wonderful event. I hope it keeps on growing.
Thanks, glad you were able to check it out. Cheers!!!
Great viewing. Thanks for the ride Jack. Perkins Engineering - Legendary!
You're welcome, cheers!!
Great stuff mate! Such a beautiful beast!
Absolutely is, cheers!
Elbow on the window.. love it.
So good!!!!
Beautifu build 👌🏽 love that 3rd gear pick up too 😜
Thanks 👍
This is awesome, Jack! There's a handful of cars that I hold above the others and this VP in the Castrol livery is equal pegging for number one.
Looks ace doesn't it!! Cheers!!
Nice touch with your helmet jack. I thought it was your dad with the colours. Keep up the great great content. I was there when Larry won
Cheers!!
Thanks for the in cab footage of this car, I think there was no in cab footage of this car during 93' Bathurst race
Correct no in car in 1993
Goodonya Jack! Top Stuff! Goodonya Larry! 👍👍🇦🇺
Cheers!!!
Was nice to see the 1st Holden V8 and last Holden V8 engine bathurst winner's together on track at the same time
Very cool indeed!!! Cheers!!!
This car embodies what the V8 touring car series was. It will never be surpassed!
Cheers!!
That was mint jack cheers . Loved the detail shots from the footwell, cable ties around the steering column in line, bolt and lock nut on the clutch pedal travel thingy even have the bolt and nut faces aligned , 😊 somehow I think that was not accidental … 👨⚕️surgical precision 👌😆
Haha yeah some OCD in there too ;) Cheers!!!
The Perkins VP Commodores are my all time favourite touring cars
Cheers!!!
Love it jack ! Keep the awesome content coming
Thanks, will do!! Cheers!
Another wonderful video, many thanks. Love the detail engineering involved especially the contouring of the brake and clutch pedals. Thanks again from the UK. Look forward to future episodes.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!!
Don't forget the old man's engines were bulletproof. Everyone in the industry knew that. Not surprised young jack jumped in the seat. A big seat to fill
Yes nothing wrong with the engines!!!! Cheers!
@@perkinsengineering respect
Great job, Jack 👍
Thanks! 👍
Awesome Jack. Looks like pretty hard work in the office compared to a more modern bus. LP must have lost a few kg's by the end of a Bathurst meet!
Yeah no power steering and ultimately more manual inputs with the H pattern etc.
Absolutely made my night love it
Glad you enjoyed it, Cheers!!!
I’m my opinion the last real v8 supercar. H patent gear box, traction control is the drivers foot, no electronic aids, grab the unassisted steering wheel and let’s go racing!!
No Power Steering in Adelaides 30+ degree heat = hard work!!!!!!
Remember Larry winning Bathurst in this when I was a kid. Best livery out there, and the only one with that block??
Cool looking cars!!! Which block??
@@perkinsengineering weren't all the others running Chevrolet blocks, or at least, the top runners? Larry's being the last Holden block to win Bathurst.
She still sounds soooo good.
Doesn’t it!!!
Outstanding What a beast, and brilliant driving and video Jack
Cheers!!!
Fantastic build you should be very proud
Many thanks, cheers!
After attending so many Clipsal events over the years, it’s weird seeing race cars on the track without all the gear. If Supercars is still hunting for a season opener, they could always talk to the SA Gov about running a Supersprint on that version on the track! Looks like it’d be a cool little bull ring! The car looks amazing Jack, a real credit to yourself and everyone involved!
Yeah that track is seriously short, only 1.6km in length and Supercars would probably do 30-35sec lap time, however it would be easy to "light up" for a night race and could be a cool little spectacle!!
Sublime heel n' toeing Jack!👍
Cheers!!!
Bloody fantastic! Nice conservative driving there! Well done for looking after your customer's pride & joy! Loved it, cheers.
Thanks 👍
I watched that heel/toe over and over so I can work on getting that right 👍🏻
Good stuff, keep at it!!
That looks tricky to get off the line with those Bathurst diff ratios .
This does have a 3.5 diff ratio, so it's not too bad just a bit of driveline shudder.
Great foot work, Jack. Good chance you'll be asked to join Dancing with the Stars! I had in mind to comment that it was nice of your dad to loan you his car ... shanemac5199 sort of beat me to it. Thanks for the video and the effort you put into producing it.
Hahah Cheers!!!
🏆💯
Cheers!!!
cool mate
Cheers!
Bet you loved that driving through the streets something that doesn’t happen all that often
Stop looking at you phone lol 😂Hey Jack who was driving 97 cheers awesome stuff as usual
Haha I made a short video whilst still on the Race Track - not on the road!!! 97 car was only on static display, it never hit the track.
I know put couldn’t help myself the 97 parked in front of you and on the track what car is that one
We did similar a couple of GP years. Torrens Pde Ground, Up King William , left into Wakefield into the track. First years was a circus,, we were supposed to be on a closed road,, that did not happen. Ended up with traffic lights, buses, trucks. Someone in a RS6000 Escort! started doing burnouts so we all got in the act.
On the way back,, traffic light with a poor Vee driver alongside the exhaust of a bus, next set of lights was a 5000 who disapeared rapidly once they changed.
Next time was a good deal better, we had been told to go about 8/10ths and make some noise BUT come across a pile of old 40s cars tootling along,, oops as you find them at a 100mph+
Hahah yeah i've heard a few stories, this was my first year at AMF and it was all really well ran and managed well. The F1 cars and most race cars don't like being driven at 40-50km/h and they get hot so we were about 70km/h
Jack, from a curiosity perspective, is this also the same car that had been to this track before that LP raced at the Adelaide GP support races in 93?
Yes that's correct, 1993 Bathurst car then went to AGP after. Cheers!!
One day, the owner should bring it to the NZ circuit
We did earlier in the year, it cut laps at Taupo
Does your family own the 93 car? It's a beautiful car!
Negative. Yes it's an amazing car. Cheers
Excellent. Though, no commentary ?
Haha nah no commentary just sounds from the Iron Lion!
JP is this just a PPG Dogset in the box or something you guys have done in house?
Neither, it’s a Holinger H6S gearbox as per 1993
It's a full physical workout driving the old Commodore Jack.
I'm just thinking of the amount of physical action in a 1000klm race at Bathurst, drivers need to be fit.
Not wrong there, Gregg Hansford's son only recently told me Gregg couldn't brush his teeth for a week after the 1000 in 1993 because his body was so sore from the stints in the race!!
Must have been a strenuous drive alright.
Any bike bloke who complains about driving effort in a car really must have done it hard. Some of Gregg's exploits on GP Kwakas, late 70's early 80's would have been very physical alright.
Keeping the revs low for mechanical sympathy Jack? Good idea.
I've just spent 7 or so years restoring it and in my opinion there's just no point in ringing it to death!! Shift gears around 7000-7200RPM, no risk of over revving if I miss a shift!!
The iron lion💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
That's it!!! Cheers!!!
How good is a Hillinger H Pattern gearbox…. It’s a lost art
Not lost on us ;)
I spy Godzilla no less.
Yeah those turbo charged, 4WD Racing cars, not Touring Cars ;)
@@perkinsengineering Those are Group A Touring cars and now one of the most popular cars in the world. I have a few Group A cars like 2 GTRs, 1 GTSR Pre Godzilla 1 GTiR and a VN Group A
Why would u play with your phone and drive jack, seriously this is horrific to see you drive and play with a phone
I appreciate your concerns, I decided that whilst we were still on the race track, in a controlled environment, driving in a straight line, that I would capture 8-12 seconds of footage incase the GoPros didn’t work. We were at 50km/h, in a section of race track where no people were allowed to be, vision and visibility was incredibly high and it wasn’t a public road at that point. I could’ve easily edited out that footage but I chose not too. I would never use my phone whilst driving on the public roads in normal driving conditions. Cheers
Thank you for your response Jack, but it still dosnt justify mobile phone use when driving, I have a 21 year old son who as just got his provisional license, I drive road trains for a living, not trying to be a mean arse but road safety is very important to me, race track or road, phones are no, no no
It was a great to see and hear it in the flesh, it certainly made my dad's day to poke around the engine bay. Great example of engineering under the bonnet and the tower of switches lead the way forward!
Glad you enjoyed it, Cheers!!
